It's not really a simulator per se, pretty much what catfood said. It has minimalistic controls, but I genuinely liked the exploration part.

Thanks gents for the follow up.
I've debated giving Freelancer a try for years but never got around to playing it.

Is using a mouse/keyboard control, in your opinion, better or worse than a stick?

For games that are made with stick in mind mouse/kb sucks. Freespace 1/2, X series (except the last one), I-War are all terrible if you don't have stick.

Most newer and more mainstream titles actually are better tailored for mouse/kb. Freelancer is just one example.

I'd have to disagree here. Granted, my very old stick was never really good, but I've played through, enjoyed and generally not had any real trouble playing Freespace 1/2, X2/X3 and I-War2 with mouse/kb. Took some doing with I-War2 since the game doesn't have native mouse support for ship control( it's a player-made fix, binding mouse to joystick keybindings) and the previous X games had that crappy feature where your view would stop moving as soon as you stopped moving the mouse( instead of continuing to slide as it should). But with the possible exception of X2 with the instant-stop camera, I never really felt like switching to my joystick in any of those games.

I didn't realize Amalur had Roman gnomes until now. Had they made this fact well known the game would've sold better and they'd still be in business!

I completed the Dragons Eye which was massive. Now my party stands outside the ruined Elven fortress of the Severed Hand....

This was my favourite part of the game. Severed Hand was just fascinating.

You can tell a man loves you if he closes his eyes when he kisses you.

I don't know why I remember that. I read it in a chick mag 15 years ago.

Hmmm. I guess there's a bigass sword later on that only mooks and lizardmen can use, or something? I'm giving him plenty of points in all kinds of melee weapons because I have no idea what I'm gonna find, but it's not like he has much to do with those points either.

The valkyrie misses more than the others, but at least the minimum damage with spears is high enough to make up for it when she actually hits someone. It was not until after I started the game that I realized I didn't have a dedicated healer, she'll have to do (unless there's a recruit that can fill that role)

Mage uses breath weapon when out of MP, good enough so far. Attack spells are pretty wimpy, though.

Bard has a ton of stamina for instruments but I don't really know what weapons to give her. In the pic she's dual wielding short blades as an experiment, but it's mostly sword + shield and some throwing. Doesn't help much, but she's support anyway.

Gadgeteer found some interesting stuff laying around in the monastery, I hope the town has something to combine them with because the omnigun is pretty wimpy as of now. The electric wand is a bit better.

The ranger is a beast. Good ranged damage, provides the group with all sorts of items, and alchemy just to rub it in. Gave him a bullwhip just in case.

Also I want to go back to the monastery to grab something I forgot, but uuungh so many battles

Only the mooks. And samurai gets +25% boost to swords skill. With mook samurai I wouldn't waste points on dual wielding, just good 2h sword (nodachi, for example) or 1h + shield (Bloodlust, for example - I won't tell you where it can be found) before you get your Wunderwaffe.

Samurai also has lightning strike ability - basically executes an awfully large amount of normal attacks with primary weapons, but its a very random and rare occurence - it's still awesome when it happens.

Odd, I thought Valkyries were pretty much immune to being developed wrong. What attribs are you pumping? Also, keep putting points in spears, some points in close combat won't hurt either.

Yeah, dracons are pretty slow starters as casters, but they are much sturdier than, say, faeries and breath weapon makes them good as one stop AoE shop. Your mage will get better at casting after a while.

Bards are malleable. Apart from obligatory music there is no fixed recipe for a well built bard.
Just give her whatever you want, put points in it and stick with your choice.

Gadgeteers have shitty progression curve. You won't find much good stuff for quite a while and omnigun will keep sucking. But later on you will put tpgether some awesome gadgets and fully upgraded omnigun is pretty much like a modern world rotary cannon in a world of muskets, except it can be loaded with almost everything.

Also I want to go back to the monastery to grab something I forgot, but uuungh so many battles
Try avoiding some enemies. Just don't burn too much stamina running in case you run into some other group.

Ellis, the hairy valkyrie began with good strength, faith and vitality so she's getting a healthy mix of dexterity, senses and speed to catch up. I later thought this might be a bad idea because it's very spread out and checked some faqs, but they agree with me (though I'm not following those "3 points in A, 2 points in B and 2 points in C every level" formulas because those are boring). As for abilities, she's pumping spears like there's no tomorrow (in before rule 34), but along with divine magic because she's gonna be our healer. Close combat is being taken care of, as well. As an aside, Female Burly voice fits her so well, I'm in love.

avoiding enemies

I try, even hiding behind pillars and structures if possible, but they walk towards me anyway. They can smell my fear.

I'm not touching those. The game is already hard enough with my furry group.

Have a picture of a battle happening in the main menu since it'll probably be a while before I have decent fleets shooting crap myself!

Doesn't he return at the very end so you (or Bastila) can kill him?
nope.
If you're Dark Side female, he returns at the end to cry and tell you he loves you and he knows best for you and you really just need a good dicking. You can choose whether you or Bastila kill him, after which you high-five, announce that you are strong independent feminist Sith who don't need no man, and leave. It's hilarious.

Thinking about it, I think it was a formative moment for many Codexers.
