...will go here shortly.

I will be picking the game up this evening from my local GameStop at midnight, and it's going to take at least one or two hours to install it, tweak it somewhat, and get enough gameplay in to be able to properly formulate an opinion worth sharing.

Stay tuned!
Crispy, I love you man. If I was a women, I would marry you and bring you beers and stuff, but why you gotta hurt me so? Can you not go to Best Buy, Target, hell even Walmart to get the damn game? Don't you know gamestop = the devil???

My short impressions after playing Skyrim (with 1.1 patch) for about an hour. Runs flawlessly with all the settings on ultra, animations aren't as terribad as expected, UI is extremely terribad, where is the head bobbing, water looks cool, dungeon design is lame, spiders are kewt and did I mention the UI is bad? World also seems to be quite big.

No head-bobbing is a big plus in my book; major pet peeve of mine. If some people like it, that's fine, but make sure there's a way to disable it.

Just finished the dragon-heavy intro/tutorial and the supposedly new engine looks just like the old engine with crude dynamic lighting tacked on. Seeing this makes one really appreciate what Carmack wanted to do with Tech 5; Skyrim looks just marginally better than Oblivion. Animation is as unintentionally funny as ever, already seen a dog moonwalk over a bridge.

How game can look better, if still runs on the same 6 year old hardware and has more stuff packed in? If it looks "better", that means, it look "worse" in reality (because game engine does its "smoke and mirrors" thingies, that makes everything plastic and bloomy - at the best). Still, I will buy Skyrim, as I bought Morrowind and Oblivion. For the sentiment sake.

Ps. Now, how come, that bacon is the most heterosexual meat ever made by human beings...?
Because Ted owns Ted Montana Grills? Nah...

eighter way its shit so far, hell even oblivion didnt make me raging that soon

7 years old hardware. As for more stuff - you can see a lot of mountain walls (instead of Oblivion 1's open spaces) on screenshots, ugly low poly trees, lack of grass and Skyrim's world is said to be much smaller. But they added shadows to Oblivion 1's Gamebryo lol.

Don't forget there are retards here that upgrade PCs for console games so they need to justify wasting a lot of money for nothing.

as bethesda has said many times they have created a brand new engine for skyrim
any resemblance to oblivion and gamebryo is definitely them not wanting to change the look and feel too much as to alienate their loyal fans

I'm impressed at this attention to detail.

So I've heard you believe Pete Hines

It's Gamebryo. Every screenshot shouts exactly that.

To be honest, Skyrim is a lot better than I expected. Definitely one of the best adventure games I've played recently :smug:

Last time I've checked the whole point of adventure games was thinking on how to beat puzzles, not blindly following quest compass everywhere including to the local store like a sheep.

Exactly the thought that popped into my head when playing this today for a while. Obviously the highest priority after switching to brand new engine was in making it look and feel as similar to the previous engine as possible. Bethesda are all about sticking to their roots. Gotta admire the dedication. There are even "killcams" in slow motion sometimes that look pretty much exactly the same as VATS camera in Fallout3/NV. How the fuck do they achieve that?

Is it good or bad?

Edit: The level scaling is retarded like in Morrowind?

Indeed. They're even reusing assets, I was watching a stream and the player looted a bunch of equipment from an ash pile that looked exactly like the ones you get from death criticals with laser rifles in Fallout 3. Probably resulted from a chain lightning spell.

Meanwhile, on Fark.com:

How the fark could you not be a fan of Skyrim? This could be one of the greatest games ever created. I'm pissed I haven't completed my goal of finishing FO3 + all DLC before this came out. I haven't even picked up New Vegas yet.

Even worse, I picked up Bioshock 2 months ago and haven't even opened it yet. I don't know if I'll get to it before Bioshock Infinite is released.

Too many games came out recently, I may need to buy a 2nd Xbox to play multiple at the same time. Might be able to make progress in Skyrim in between rounds of BF3.

*sigh*

Walmart is home town Americana... Who doesn't love aimlessly wandering the cereal isle at 3 am with the meth heads?

no doubt a result of repeated playtesting to make sure they get things just right

and besides the vats camera in fallout 3 was perfect so no reason fixing what ain't broken even in a new engine you feelin me on this

They copy pasta'ed so much from Gothic that I'm starting to like it (even the "animal warnings" that is one of the defining Gothic series characteristics). Also runs on my laptop with no slowdowns whatsoever, I like how consolefags say PC folks have to buy upgrades for every new release, while in reality everything is made with ancient hardware in mind. Of course the UI is terrible, but then it's almost like they copied that from Gothic 1 as well :smug: , and the background for skills is rather pretty. :M

I thought Skyrim would have native 360 pad support. Even the legendarily bad Saints Row 2 port has it.

Edit: nevermind, looks like the modder is full of it. It does have native support.

A console port doesn't run well just because the original hardware it was developed for is vastly outdated.
