<A href="http://www.pcarena.com/">PC Arena</A> has written yet another <a href="http://www.pcarena.com/reviews/silentstorm/">positive review</A> for <A href="http://www.nival.com/eng/s2_info.html">Silent Storm</A>, giving it a <b>4/5</b> rating. Oddly enough, I couldn't find anything in the body of this piece on what the author <i>didn't</i> like about the game, so I guess that's shrouded in mystery for all time. Anyway, here's a clip of the happy parts:
<br>
<br>
<blockquote>Each player you take around with you has different stats. They have different attributes like strength, dexterity, intelligence and vitality points. Skill assets include shooting, sniping, engineering and interrupting. Both attributes and skills can be increased in two ways. One way is through experience, and the more your character uses or tries different things, the better he or she will get at performing them. The other materializes as you progress through the game’s tech tree - your character can then acquire special abilities and increase their various skills in certain areas. Other abilities can also give you different ways of firing or moving.</blockquote>

<br>
Rather interesting system it employs. Use drives basic skills, plus you get things like <A href="http://www.interplay.com/fallout">Fallout</a>'s <i>Perks</i> as well.

It strikes me as a little more Diablo-like, the way it's portrayed in the game - icons and all. Although everything, is thankfullt passive bonuses... if it had been more of a list than a skill-tree to choose from, it'd be more Falloutish.

I like the tree form method better than the list that just pops up. After all, with the tree form, you can actually work towards something.

It would be even better if it was based on the chars skills and stats- like in a certain other game. I agree that the skill-tree gives more of an overview, but it's also harder to choose, since you have to hover the mouse over all the icons to see where a certain route takes you. I found myself a little to impatient to reallly investigate all choices for my chars later in the game - if it was one char it wouldn't be much of a hassle at all though.

i didnt like the tree form skills, first they are randombly ordered (wth do you need free look for the 10% faster stat grow ?) and i would have liked more "class" unique skills and a level limited system like fallout's

but the game is great anyway

Yeah, the trees are incredibly goofy. Some "classes" get access to some skills more quickly than others, despite not necessarily needing it. Or, just for no reason (one class can get 10% faster skill growth with 2 points, another with 4 or 5).

Some paths don't make sense at all. Conceptually interesting, flawed execution.
