You know, if what I knew as RPGs were what has been released under that label in the last ~10 years, I'd hate them, too.

Wait, what? How old is this squid thing? I saw this 6-7 years ago on a Croatian forum and it was written in Croatian by an illiterate idiot. It's rather famous around here.

Or... Or have we all been trolled? :(

I'll play along with the main quest and probably grab a strategy guide to get through the trickier puzzles

Oh my, that idiot doesn't know what he is talking about. Tricky puzzles? In Oblivion II? Yeah, sure. On the other hand he represents hordes of brain damaged fucktards so maybe he considers walking straight as a tricky puzzle.

And if you really are the sort of person who likes to be taken by the hand, there's a 'Clairvoyance' spell that draws a path along the ground to your next quest objective.
Clair- what?

They should rename that the 'Where to' spell.

Sorry, Am I alone in thinking we DON'T WANT non-rpg...non-Elder Scrolls fans playing these games???

Then we may end up with watered down, softcore, action hack and slashes with five hours of content.

Actually, thinking back Oblivion had a quite a casual gamerbase which is why I'm suprised Skyrim retains a lot of complexity. (the day that they get rid of Enchanting is the day I stop playing).

Except Oblivion was still widely regarded (among Elder Scrolls veterans) to be dissapointing.

...TLDR VERSION (LOOK AT MASS EFFECT FOR WHAT HAPPENS WHEN CASUAL GAMER FOCUS GROUPS GET A SAY)
Look a fellow crusader fighting for the cause! Hurrah, Codex, your influence spreads!

Also "Softcore" = the genre defining RPG romances right?

Well, not saying that he's not likely dumb as fuck, but that smells like advertisement to me. Betharda has to sell those strategy guides too, you know?

Howdy guys,

I rarely go through the chore of logging into the forum to comment on something - especially since many of you here are way better in creative HATESTORM and well-deserved IRONY-NUKES than me. Anyhow..

When I read something like this article, and then when I read your comments - it kinda reminds me that PEOPLE WHO APPRECIATE GAMES exist and my personal side-project games might actually attract to someone. One day.

You'll probably forget about this in 2 sec but one day if I manage to pull a decent game I would like to have had said something like this back in the time - I kinda do those game/s for you.

If it is turn-based (RT w Pause is somewhat acceptable, but we will still RAGE), has stats and skills and stat/skill based combat, choices and consequences, stat and skill checks, multiple ways to achieve tasks then we will most certainly be interested.

If it's just Yet Another Shitty Action Game Labeled As A RPG With Little Or No RPG Elements #49875 that Publishers currently are shitting out now, then no. We won't really give a shit.

I'm spending most of my free time on Guild Wars and DotA where I play almost professionally. In the past few days however, I have succumbed to the new Fallout game and it's amazing!

The guys at Bethesda are no mugs. Every single time you see Todd Howard or Pete Hines or Craig Lafferty talking to a journalist, the first thing out of their mouths is the line about Skyrim's accessibility, its universal appeal, its ability to be all things to all men, and women. And this isn't merely a marketing-made dogma shaped for the masses. It's the game's central design principle.

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/3567 ... Skyrim.php

What about accessibility -- making Skyrim a game that's inviting to people who might not play RPGs as much, and also the hardcore people who have been playing The Elder Scrolls since the beginning?

Honestly, it's not something that we think about a lot, in that we've found that we're getting a pretty big audience making a game that we want to make.

...

I think the audiences are there, and we tend to make our game more for ourselves and other people who play a lot of games.

:hmmm:

That is the next move in Bioware's agenda.

25p6ahe.png

Bethesda needs to step it up and be modern and progressive like Bioware. They are way behind in gay romances and no-gameplay. Add more cutscenes and take out the combat. That's the key in attracting an overweight female audience.

I can't see any logic there. If you don't like playing games, than why buy them? Enjoying ingame chat is no excuse, as you can have a real superior chat anytime you want, why bother with games than?

Why is there so much hate of skyrim? if you dont like it than dont buy it, how will its release make your life worse?

Shit games being released every hour or so, why not rage about them?

Why stop here? Bethesda should innovate even further by making the first game 100% accessible to clinically idiots. Make sure it is playable with a single-button remote! Gamepads and motion control are so last gen and confusing, after all!

- Um, simple == bad game? I sure hope that is not what you are suggesting.

Yeah, I understand the bitching about Skyrim trying to pretend it's an RPG. Reminds me of a delusional moron pretending he's smart. However, bitching about Skyrim being made "accessible" is not a piece of criticism I would waste time on. All of the Elder scroll games are pretty much the same: talk to generic NPCs, get fetch-quests, explore vast world with vast dungeon, be it small hand-crafted like Morrowind or RNG shit like Daggerfall or something in between like Oblivion. They're all the same and it seems silly to now make an issue about Skyrim like Bethesda was going to do something differently.

Actually, Drago, simple does equal a bad game. It always has.

An uncomplicated game can still be good, however. There is a difference.

As much as I'm looking forward to playing Skyrim, I know full well it's going to be to my brain as Oreo cookies are to my teeth; I have no illusions about it. But, like eating Oreo cookies, I'll consider it a... simple... and guilty pleasure.

- This is simply untrue. Super Mario Brothers is far more simple than say, Super Mario Sunshine, but the former is still a good game. A good game is determined by it's quality of design, not complexity. A game complex for the sake of being complex is just as bad as a game being simple for the sake of being simple.
