The demo's pretty cool. I actually stopped playing it before the end because I saw enough to be interested in picking it up when it releases.

My general feedback:
  1. The character art and voice acting are both significant improvements over the first game. The facial animations for speaking can be a bit weird at times and like others mentioned, there are clipping issues. I feel that those are pretty minor issues, but it would be nice if they can be cleaned up before the game is finalized.
  2. The combat difficulty seemed fine, even with that beneficial dice or whatever turned off. I always turn off fudged dice settings if the option is available.
    1. From what I can tell from different threads, Lacrymas may be the worst D&D player on the entire site. By far.
  3. Looking forward to this game being completed and out. :bounce:
    1. Please don't just put out a nice demo and then a bunch of crap for everything passed the first two hours.

I don't know what would give you the impression I'm bad at the game and that's why I'm complaining. I'm not complaining I'm dying and that it's too hard. I'm complaining there are no ways to mitigate RNG and that it's too easy (no rest restrictions, it's not required of you to use consumables, auto attacking is enough for most encounters). Frustrating yet easy is not a combination I want to see in my games, but you do you.

You should finish it. If it's anything like the first game, the demo is a standalone thing with no content overlap with the actual game, but you might get some references to its events in the actual campaign.

Well shit, I just uninstalled it. I might though, I enjoyed what I played. I'm just sort of... demo allergic in a way. There's something about it that seems deeply pointless to me. Does it conclude itself, so to speak?

I forgot to add to my feedback: the multi-racial siblings is hilarious, whether intentional or not. It's like the family in After Yang: White dad, Black mom, Asian kids. I don't know if it's spelled out that they're all adopted or what in the demo materials, but it cracked me up anyway.

It has a pretty neat capstone battle with a story cliffhanger connected to the reveal trailer. But perhaps not something worth redownloading 10 gigs for.

As for the party, it's stated that they're all orphans who became adopted siblings, yes.

I kinda figured, but didn't really care enough to finish a demo over it. The storyline isn't what brings me out for Solasta.

I figured as much. Related to what I said above, I sort of skimmed over the thing about who they were, realized I didn't care and hit next.

Oh shoot. Another thing i meant to comment on: the tutorial windows are very clear and well presented. They were basically useless for me but I know mechanics for games like these confuse a lot of newbies and casual players.

I'm sorry I don't have a crystal ball to divine niche cases that are nowhere documented? This is a strike against 5E as well. You are incredibly constrained when it comes to attributes. You *have* to go STR for your class feature to work as a Barbarian.

Unless you use finesse attacks I don't think you would ever be able to make a dex based babarian in D&D

I mean sure. High dex is great for a babarian. But which physical fighter comes without strength? Like ever? That's a rogue thing mate.

3.5E's feats are flexible enough to allow most things. Yeah, DEX-based Barbarian isn't optimal because Rage increases STR, but you can make it work, especially with multiclassing and prestige classes.

"There are no ways to mitigate RNG"
* Disables helpful dice *
That's fudging the dice.
Yes and you can still miss.
It is also set on by default, so the devs surely agree with you and included this option to mitigate the RNG.

But I want to actively do something, not have the computer help me by fudging the dice. I don't know about you, but just auto attacking and having the computer change the roll in my favor is not my idea of engaging gameplay. Maybe I'm out of touch and this is peak RPG gameplay, but I don't think I am.

Sounds like you don't want RNG (which is inherent to tabletop RPGs, which DnD games and - by extension - Solasta, are based upon), but a deterministic system instead. Something akin to King Arthur: Knight's Tale (and Hard West).

I do want RNG because it's too predictable and leads to rote tactics if it's completely missing (in the case of how D&D handles combat that is), but 5E has too much of it, to the point that tactics are almost irrelevant when compared to the almighty dice. That's why I suggest using 2d10 at least or, ideally, 3d6.67. the randomness is still there but it's more standardized and easier to balance around.

Looks like a BG3 ripoff. Same camera, similar art style, dark fantasy, similar combat, etc.
Maybe it looks like a ripoff at first glance, but don't forget that Solasta 1 released two years before BG3.

Don't forget Divinity Original Sin 2 was released 5 years before Solasta 1, and BG3 was just a continuation of DOS2.
I've totally forgot that DOS2 had this D&D mode and didn't considered it as a D&D game. You're right, thanks.
My bad, H. P. Lovecraft's Cat , I was wrong pointing out that Solasta 1 was released before BG3, because BG3 is a continuation of DOS2.

Nigga what sort of galaxy brain you got to want to make randomness less random?
Haven't I already made my reasoning clear? ;d If 5E were a better system that gave you more tools to work with, maybe a 1d20 would've still sufficed, but as it stands now we worship at the altar of random at the expense of everything else. And isn't turning on helpful dice making randomness less random? Just in a very bad way.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut Pathfinder: Wrath
Played the demo. I'm kind of worried.
:grpg:

Vertical levels are gone? I think? It was one of the selling points.
And what's up with all that snazzy cinematic presentation? Nobody plays Solasta for this crap.
The entrance of the generic evil witch will never be as exciting, as the first time you see a Sorak priest using Flight.

There was still a fair bit of climbing and jumping in it.
