I guess LPs could fit him well since making those requires less effort than actual reviews, but I would really love to hear him talk about some of his favorite oldschool PC (and even console) games from his youth. Since he talks so much about PnP RPGs, I'd love to see him review CRPGs that are based on PnP RPGs like PST, ToEE, ID&ID2, Gold Box games, Shadowrun and Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines. I'm genuinely curious to hear his opinions since he has talked about the PnP RPG versions of all of those. But instead he posts vlogs about modern games like Saints Row 4 and Bioshock Infinite and keeps on beating the dead horse that is Final Fantasy. Does he feel like he needs to stay relevant by talking about recent games or what? Isn't it enough that his buddy Angry Joe deals with the modern game reviews?

I don't think he's eager to do another LP because the last time he did (the SWAT 4 expansion) people bitched because it wasn't very good. He just recorded a livestream of him playing the level and put it up without editing. He couldn't seem to figure out what the problem was and threw a shitfit, saying he wouldn't put up the other episodes now even though they were recorded. But yeah, a video LP takes time and effort to produce, and Spoony doesn't seem willing to put either of those into his content nowadays and it's suffering as a result.

Let's play=real time footage of playing a game+commentary=Less entertaining than more condensed compilation videos where all the boring and pointless parts have been cut out (+editing). Spoonys riff videos, game grumps episodes, pewdiepie compilations and two best friends play aren't really lets plays in that sense

The first swats weren't so bad but I just cant stand his idiotic remarks that come from not understanding the game but he also acts as if he's explaining it to the audience so it comes off as stupid. His latest FF lets play was full of shitty jokes cuz he didnt know shit about the game and was trying too hard to say bad stuff about it. I watch his reviews every day to put me to sleep because I know most of them almost by heart and I watched FF8 the last night and it was so much more uhmm straight forward, unpretentious anger and snarky remarks. It was obvious he sometimes needed to fill up time with shit cuz he hadnt scripted anything but it was very refreshing because spoony now kinda repeats himself. I still like the big reviews the best.

I would never say he gets it for doing nothing, because the work is hard and stands on him learning his nerd ways his whole life and requires a talent for comedy, so it's not like "lol anyone can do it I should be internet critic ololol" but it's some serious money people are giving him, not to mention the ad revenue, so this is a dream job and now he is actually directly responsible to his viewers and I can sense he is scared shitless. Dunno why, it's just a feeling. And it kinda seems he is throwing out shitty videos just to have something.

I still like him really much, I even regret I started to read his idiotic shit elsewhere outside his reviews cuz it taints my image of him.
By the way, has anyone read any of the "patreon exclusive" posts there? I wonder if they're worth anything.

It made me wonder a bit too why it actually can't be as simple as 0 hp = you die. Or on the ground > coup de grace > die. You'd just have to change tactics/retreat/parley if your hp reaches low amount. Players probably don't think of HP as an actual "life" nowadays.

It was obvious from the start that the rewards will not met in time because he just sucks at putting out his content in a timely manner. I think he must be feeling really desperate (or I would) cause he's expected to build a stupid wooden tavern for the counter monkey show, film a movie, record voice overs for shitty films etc etc and he is struggling to even release a goddamn review once per month. He explained in that video how during the past few years all he has done is worked constantly on making new reviews and he hasn't had any vacation. His life is a vacation, he gets paid 6000 dollars a month to post pictures of comic books to twitter like an 8 year old kid. He literally acts like a kid on twitter, one with a wild imagination that forgot to took his ritalin. If you check it you can see that he posts 60-80 messages there on a daily basis. And yes he addressed this issue on this video but I doubt it'll have any effect on him. I don't get the whole twitter culture, doesn't it ruins one enjoyment in watching/playing/reading things when he constantly has to take pauses to tweet shit about wrestling/games/comics. Not to mention the fact how narcissistic that is, but that goes for all social media.

Not counting the board game review, he has put out 3 game reviews+1 preview this year. Ultima, the C64 game, final part of FF XIII and a FF XIV preview. If I recall correctly, his review output was between 3-5 videos a year during 2012 and 2013 as well. The rest are VLOGs and a couple of movie reviews, and the biggest movie review he did was presumably edited by Nostalgia Critic. I really cant comprehend how he can bitch about how he hasn't got time to edit his VLOGs. What is there to edit? They're already have no effort put into editing and contain a shit ton of rambling. All he has to do is render the video and upload it, maybe cut out couple of parts if he's at a loss for words or starts stuttering.

Are there any other similar reviewers (that don't suck) out there that could be used as a measuring stick for Spoony's lazyness/productivity? Only one I know is JonTron and most of his followers complain that he doesn't put out videos fast enough. He released 10 reviews during the last 8 months, though they're shorter than the average Spoony review (12-18 minutes a video, -60 seconds or so for intro and credits), but he has better production values and his videos seem more professional. And he isn't on patreon, but he makes enough money from youtube that producing the show has become his full time job as far as I know. Nostalgia Critic puts out a video once every 2 weeks, right? He sucks though.


Remember when people used to work at factories and made concrete products and goods to sustain themselves? I still can't over the fact that you can make a living by putting out a handful of game and movie reviews a year. All you need is a gaming PC/consoles with a capture card, a microphone and a camera, the rest of the stuff you can torrent. And if you're at that popularity level that you can make a living by making reviews, you can beg your fans to buy or donate you the games, editing software etc. Only thing more curious than that is how some one like PewDiePie can make a living from let's playing when he doesn't even have to bother with editing or writing. Truly a productive member of the species.

Well there's Brad Jones (The Cinema Snob), an (ex-) colleague of Spoony's from TGWTG, who "reviews" low-budget/exploitation/horror movies and porn. He's not the best web reviewer in the world, but doesn't outright suck IMO like most of the other low-lifes on that site. He puts out one scripted and edited video per week of his main show, then he and his friends go to the movies sometimes twice a week and record unscripted VLOGs, that's maybe 3-6 videos per week, then add the odd food-review/tv-series-rant/podcast/whathaveyou for 1-2 videos per week, and of top of that they have an original web series ATM that gets updated maybe once a month. So while most of his content is VLOG filler where he shoots the shit with his friends about movies they saw, there's nothing stopping Spoony from doing something similar.

Except maybe the 'friends' part...
