15$ seems too much for a terraria indie clone. Would pay 9$ max.

I wonder how many features they will plan that never make it into the game. Terraria had quite an impressive list.

Multi-tiered. It's on Steam. Avoid that satanic ritual of DRM folks.
Please don't support this.

How about no.

I enjoyed Terraria, and Starbound's feature list is looking pretty great.

I'll buy it, but I'm not "pre-ordering" it (it's really more of a pre-release belated crowdfunding campaign), at least not until I see a release date. "2013" isn't cutting it for me, nor is "beta sometime this year". The game's surely 2/3 of the way done by now, and they've already gotten $600,000 worth of "pre-orders". That's $70,000 per month until the end of 2013, and for some reason they can't give a rough estimate....

Oh well. It'll be out when it's out.

You know, though... the $500 tier includes a hat design of the donor's choice. If we (or individuals) raise $500 or more, we could make them put a Codex devil mask "hat" (or several different types thereof) into the game.

I would have pre-ordered if they could at least give a rough estimate of when the beta will be out. Saying the game will be out in 2013 is worrying, but still kinda acceptable, but being unable to even give a rough estimate for the beta leaves me way to apprehensive.

I'm not worried that the game won't be completed, but they're asking me to order something in advance that not only isn't finished, but that they can't even nail down an approximate release date for. The major Kickstarter projects have all offered tentative release dates, and that was pre-production. They may not turn out to be accurate, but at least they've set a concrete goal for themselves that they'll presumably try to reach.

I'm really not sure why this is so important to me, but it is.

I just don't want to splash out $15 now, when the beta might only release at the end of the year. I'd rather pre-order when I know when to expect a beta.

My toughts exactly. I might pick this up for 75% off or something, but no way am I preordering from one of those guys. 50/50 odds he gets more preorder money than expected and decides he never really liked this style of game anyways and wants to make an RTS instead, poops out half a beta and moves on to 'better' things like last time. Of course there'll be no mod support because letting the huge frenzied fanbase finish your game for you would be just embarrassing.

The only person from the Terraria team involved with Starbound is the guy who did the graphics - don't think he had much of an input or say on how the patches and content development for Terraria turned out, Redigit did it all by himself. This time around though there's 3 programmers and 4 artists, so it shouldn't be such a hackjob altogether.

You've got to be kidding. They delivered more than enough content for the $10 list price.

Well if he can keep promises about these features I'll put some faith in him then, but not before.

And their fans delivered 10 times the content they did. And they didn't get paid enough money to just outright buy a fucking house to do it. They didn't even have access to the source code.

Being a better deal than some other games doesn't make it ok to promise shit and then not deliver. I preordered that shit on the basis that it was going to be something special with massive amounts of content, not because it was a better deal than a bunch of games I picked up for 5$ on sales and barely ever play. Arcen Games makes games with way more content than their list price too, and they didn't just bail on their fucking games because they got bored after 4 months and already had their money. Would rather send another 10$ there.

Despite being iffy as fuck on Starbound since the only direct connection to Terraria is the artist, I got in on a group buy preorder anyway. Assuming the CAG doesn't run off with my money since I haven't gotten a link yet. I want to believe!
