Check out my massive package.
So EBGames just dropped several recent strategy games' prices:

EVIL GENIUS -- $20
KOHAN 2 -- $20
LORDS OF THE REALM 3 -- $10
GROUND CONTROL 2 -- $10

I'm thinking about getting Kohan 2 for $20, and everyone should consider Ground Control 2 for a paltry $10. GC2 is very fun.

They are all garbage, except maybe Kohan.

I wouldn't play them any more unless you payed me $10 or $20.

I've heard good things (so far) about Kohan 2 and Ground Control 2. Anyone here play them and have any opinions they wish to share?

If you don't have Ground Control 1, then play it instead. Hell, there are hundreds of games you'd be better off paying $10 for than GC2.

EG's ok. Not worth $20 but hey, I figured I'd be complete. 76% average from Gamerankings.

Kohan 2's good, especially patched. $20 is a reasonable price. 81% average from Gamerankings.

Lords of the Realm 3 is shit, don't bother unless you're desperate. 63% average from Gamerankings.

Ground Control 2 is definitely worth $10 imo. 81% average from Gamerankings.

If I pay you $10, will you play the "leave these forums and never return" game?

"Ground Control 2 is definitely worth $10 imo. 81% average from Gamerankings." - Lies. The score means nothing. It is crap. Play the first game and leave it at that. It's like watching Highlander 2 or 3 after the first film - There should only have been one!

GC 2: They took all the goodness out of the first game and packed it into their asses, and made sure it stayed in there by pounding each other's asses daily for half the development cycle, then they let rip and shat out the fetid remains onto the gold master and went back to packing fudge. Eventually it ends up on a shelf at some point. If there was any justice a zombie apocalypse would have happened the moment the first game was sold.

EG - Yuk, half made game. Awful. Do not buy unless you are desperate for a pretty, but mediocre and unfinished game. There are other, better games around long before it. You can probably find DK for free now.

"Lords of the Realm 3 is shit" - An understatement. 63% is criminally over-inflated for such a piece of shit. It shows that Gamerankings' scores are useless for evaluating the worth of games. Though I'm sure many people here could point out how useless the scores are without looking at this example.

Kohan 2 patched would be ok on budget.

"If I pay you $10, will you play the "leave these forums and never return" game?"

Awww, did poor baby get upset because someone insulted GC 2?

Well that would probably pay for a couple of weeks pounding your mom and pop's ass, so you'd not see me here for a while at least while I am busy.

Dry your eyes, boy.

Not really, no. I'm just saying, it's worth $10, especially if you liked the first one. You're the one acting like the game raped your sister and burned your testicles off with hot irons. And quite frankly your hyperbolic melodrama is so tiring and ludicrous that I'd gladly pay $10 not to have to read it again.

Ok, bye.

I've yet to receive the money. I want my pound of flesh now.

GC 2 is crap and if there is the possibility that decent people might be inflicted with it I think it's worthwhile making sure they know to avoid it when it's getting pimped. No one deserves to lose money because of it. There are better ways to waste money.

"And quite frankly your hyperbolic melodrama is so tiring and ludicrous that I'd gladly pay $10 not to have to read it again. "

Boo. Hoo. Cry elsewhere, silly boy, you'll get no sympathy here. No one is forcing you to read and reply. Fuck off elsewhere if it's too much for you. Otherwise shut up and put up with it, bitch.

Man, you must be able to do something horrible to me if you talk all that smack.

Oh wait, you're a plebian just like any other poster on the site.

I hate to invoke Volourn, but 'r00fles.'

Seems your reading comprehension has gone to shit again, though it's more likely that you are just full of shit and have resorted to cheap strawman tactics. Moron.

Try working on some of these before posting: http://www.rhlschool.com/reading.htm

I can't even find Ground Control 1 anywhere. First time I heard of this series was when 2 came out. Anyone know somewhere (besides ebay if possible) where I could get the 1st game?

That's the Ground Control demo.

Looks like your reading comprehension has gone again.

You can get the full game with the GC 2 demo here: http://www.fileplanet.com/142438/140000 ... layer-Demo

Hope you're not trying to get that with dial-up, it's 670.2 MB.

Goddammit. Yeah, I found the Fileplanet link but then was like "wow, I hate Fileplanet, I need to find another link" and went with that one figuring it was the same. My bad.

Holy bejillickers!

Any other free ex-commercial games people know about?

I remember these "Rockstar Classics":
http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/
http://gamehippo.com/ is a good place to start.

And, of course, Home of the Underdogs.

Ok, that Hippo site is missing alot of ex-commercial titles... so maybe forget about that.

nm, found a good list on the hippo site, it's in the forums: http://www.gamehippo.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6361&start=0&

Hey, thanks aquatic hacker-dude.
That's the kind of list I was looking for.

By the way, with a name like "Undead Dolphin Hacker", does the idea of "RoboShark" make your loins quiver?
http://www.roboshark.info/

Edit:
That thread you mention also mentions the "Liberated Games" site:
http://liberatedgames.org/
Alas, a lot (some?) of them seem to be source releases only - i.e useless for playing without the other assets, but good if you want to use them as a development springboard
