Suspicious Codex establishment behavior

Should Codex Editors post a news article about Drova: Forsaken Kin?

  • Yes, it is an outrage that such a high quality game is ignored by these pseudo RPG aficionados!

  • No, I spit on Drova's Foreskin, because I can only play turn based games!

  • Crispy should be tarred and feathered for this atrocity!

  • Yes, it IS an outrage, AND Crispy should be tarred and feathered as well!

  • Bulgaria was never a world power!

  • Actually, I can't stand pixel art games, even RPGs, no matter how good they might be (kc)

I don't post news but I'm not too broken up about German propaganda not getting a news thread.

This fucking idiot doesn't know what's a grant

To receive a grant from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, your project must typically demonstrate significant climate relevance, innovative potential, cost-effectiveness in terms of CO2 savings, and align with the ministry's current funding priorities, which often focus on accelerating the energy transition, promoting clean technologies, and supporting climate-friendly business practices; specific requirements will vary depending on the chosen funding program, but generally include a detailed project proposal outlining the goals, methodology, budget, and expected impact on climate protection.

In their applications, applicants must indicate which aspects of the culture test (see Annex) are
fulfilled.

Annex 1: Culture test
[..]

They have requirements and obligations to fulfill to get that government money. The German government certainly isn't going to fund some AfD chud game.

How many trannies in the game?
Here's a male player character receiving fighting training from an "undefeated woman."

There are also black magic women.
This kind of hunting for issues where there are apparently none undermines the real concern and efforts regarding games where the agenda is real. By this logic, characters having the same physical max stats in <insert game name> irrespective of the sex is a problem. Well, maybe for some of you it is.

The agenda is here but from your perspective it's like asking a fish to describe water.

And there's more as well. Character creation where there's "physique/voice 1" and "physique/voice 2" though this is standard in all modern RPGs unfortunately.

Ok, I'll grant you that physique1 + physique2 is gay and kowtowing to the agenda.

Also, that's no way any proper male ever lies naked, a proper realistic developer should have his shrimp/horsecock proudly out in the open. Maybe you are onto something.

EDIT: you aren't

It seems he's absolved for this particular transgression. I've always said I have 100% trust in and support for our administrators and staff members, irrespective of their quirks and personal preferences (e.g. pretending to be a woman or a computer vendor, to name a couple).

German propaganda
you're making it sound like they tailored the game to meet the grant criteria instead of, you know, the game meeting the criteria, prompting them to apply for a grant. looking at the criteria i'd put my money on the latter were i a betting man, but hey guess we'll never know, maybe it's a conspiracy
It's true that the devs put a lot of women in the game but that's about it. There is no woke content and it feels like they put that stuff in the game just to please the authorities.

The best fighters in the Arena are two males and then there is the Undefeated Ada ... which you can actually defeat and also make fun of her :)

Undefeated Ada is probably the hardest boss in the game. Coincidence!?

Then there are a couple of quests which are simply male fantasies ... like for example Eugen's quest. In how many games can you see an NPC draining the lizard? :)

Listen, nobody reasonable likes this woke shit lately, but you gotta have some semblance of proportion. Expeditions Conquistador and Viking had woke shit in them too (female soldiers being 50% of soldiers, for example), but they were nevertheless excellent games. So in an age of shit games, you gotta take what you can get. Same here.

And Infinitron, not being aware of this game at release is understandable, but we've been bringing it to your attention many times since, so you've had plenty of chances to fix this, and instead you still only created a news thread in the least visited subforum here. Indie games like this NEED as much exposure as they can get, it's the difference between financial success and failure, and as far as I am concerned, it's one of Codex's main reasons for existence. This game needs to be on the front page, and anything else is just weird.

In their applications, applicants must indicate which aspects of the culture test (see Annex) are
fulfilled.

Annex 1: Culture test
A game is eligible for funding if it fulfils at least 2 criteria of each of the categories I. and II. below (II.1 or II.2)
and at least 1 criterion from category III.
I. Cultural context and cultural content
1. The game is set in Germany or the European Economic Area or has contemporary or historical references.
2. The main characters in the game represent a figure from German or European contemporary and world
history or a fictional figure in German or European cultural history.
3. The game is published at least additionally in German.
4. The game’s underlying topic, subjects or ideas relate to Germany or the European Economic Area, for
example:
a) The game’s structure, story or design addresses German culture (everyday culture, pop culture,
gaming culture, youth culture, high culture, educational culture, media culture, etc.), society, identity,
German history or aspects of life in Germany or in the European Economic Area.
b) The game’s story is based on a literary, cinematic, televisual or other foundation from the German or
European (language) area, e.g. including fairy tales, legends and science fiction.
c) The game references or evolves German gaming traditions.
d) The game highlights aspects of regional diversity in Germany or the European Economic Area.
e) The game reflects German cultural heritage.
In exceptional cases, the cultural context and content may also be non-European if it is very clearly defined
and particularly creative or innovative in design, and if a particularly large number of criteria under II and II are
met.

II. Cultural/creative platform
1. A significant part of the creative work (concept development, programming, music recording) will take
place in Germany and, as a result, it is expected to have a particular promotional impact for domestic
cultural and creative sector.
2. At least 50% of the team members have their main place of residence in Germany, are subject to taxation
there or are otherwise familiar with German culture, for example due to qualifications obtained in Germany
or an appropriate period of time spent in Germany.
The following team members must definitely meet this criterion: a) Producer
b) Lead Copywriter/Author/Concept Developer
c) Lead Composer/Sound Designer
d) Art Director
e) Technical Director
f) Lead Game Designer

3. Promotion of young cultural talent: The team includes graduates of universities or higher education
institutions who graduated within the past 2 years
a) if the university or higher education institution is located in Germany; or
b) from foreign universities or higher education institutions provided the graduate currently resides in
Germany.

III. Design-related, creative and technological innovation
The game is particularly creative or innovative in the following areas, for example:
1. Narrative structure or game play
2. Design of the characters, setting, story and environment
3. Game music
4. Interactivity, multiplayer function, user interface, user-generated content
5. Use of artificial intelligence
6. Use of new technologies for the development, implementation or application of the game

Really have to use this account now, eh? Couldn't remember my account name from Chaos Chronicles (nor the email it was connected too. Oh well) times so had setup this one some time ago. And now actually posting something again after all these years as a silent reader of the Codex. Cause this bullshit making things up is really hella annyoing.

You posted the criterias yourself and are too much into your own conspiracy to actually think which criterias Drova fullfills to be able to apply for the funding.

The Culture Test requires as a minimum two criterias to be fullfilled. What are these in the case of Drova? Simple:
1) It's released in German (actually also the original language the story was written in)
2) Is set in the eruopean union / germany. While it is a ficitional land the scenery and the mythology are rooted in the region. Celtic setting, remember? There is a full region inspired visually by the Lüneburg Heath.
3) With the celtic setting alone the game also automatically fullfills the cultural background and the cultural heritage

Culturual/Creative Platform criteria is fullfilled as the team is located in Germany and more than 50% of the employees of Just2D have their main residence in Germany.

Promotion of young cultural talent: All of the team went to university. Point fullfilled.

Design Related, creative and technological innovation:
1) Fullfilled via narrative structure (call it innovative or not in general, if explained in detail you can justify that there is creative innovation)
2) Same for User Interface
4) Smae for interactivity, game music and environment.

Something you left out for whatever reason by the way is the inclusion of tools to make the game approachable for people with disabilities. Such as variable textsize and different difficulties. That's the only thing we decided to implement to secure the funding in first place (besides that these options are indeed helpful actually).

Not so hard to figure things out.

Even this is probably too much for Roguey.

Your game was really good and many of us really appreciated it. Hope you guys work on a sequel or something similar in the future.

I know. Calling the "Well that's what you say" argument in best case.
And yet, for the rest it can serve as a small showcase on how little these funding options actually influence anything.

Doesn't really matter to me whether the idea to include these elements came from the devs or the government. Either way, German taxpayers involuntarily paid for it, and that repulses me.

Additionally, I find some of the public statements you've made rather peculiar.
