It's a dumbass concept and they're asking for absurd amount of money given how it looks. I don't know what they expected.
Yeah, sort of. And there are a lot more JRPG's than WRPG's, which makes things appear even worse. Blobbers are making a comeback, and JRPGs like the idea of battles being attrition before the big boss man. It's probably a cultural thing as well, where most Japanese gamers spend their time gaming on their daily work commute. Grinding helps make things get accomplished in bursts of time, rather than needing to sit down and spend 4 hours+ in one session. Taking pictures in SWERY is just its form of trash combat, if you will. The equivalent in most WRPG's is crafting. You're the hero, but you're busy picking weeds and digging up rocks to make a sweet sword needed to slay a Dragon that gives a sword that is just as good as the one some regular blacksmith made. Busywork because the price of most games is ludicrous and people want to justify their purchase with sinking x number of hours for 1 playthrough instead of sinking x number of hours without looking at the clock.Hey weebs, is jRPG gameplay always and necessarily a repetitive grind? 'Cuz that's what stuck in my craw about the pitch, not the high-concept cat thingy or the fact that there was no violence or whatever. Walking around taking pictures to get moneys to upgrade your stuff so you can walk around taking more pictures ad infinity just sounds unappealing as fuck. Is this a SWERY thing, a jRPG thing, or just a thing with this particular pitch?
Asking because he doesn't address gameplay in his message at all.
when you feel likeThing is though, when do we consider something grinding?
Well, this kickstarter thingie work off nostalgia. Did he really believe that his fanbase is interested in a cute flash game about cats? And not just interested, but enough to give him a million? I am a fan of both DP and D4, but no way I'll give even a dollar for this shit. Sure, he can make whatever games he wants, but if you target a completely different audience don't expect much support from the previous one.Yes, I have a degree of sympathy about the D4 thing. Seeing as I've just seen a post on the 'Agents of Mayhem' steam board suggesting Volition devs all deserve to get cancer as they made that instead of Saints Row 5, I have a degree of sympathy for all devs who have to deal with the attitudes of entitled man-children, (or even just children.) Saying a game is shit or bsb isn't quite the same as wishing harm on the creator.
Sorry to keep you waiting!
The Good Life's Kickstarter Campaign is going to start next week at 10 AM on March 26, 2018 PST (2 AM on March 27 JST)!
This a dream game tag-teamed by SWERY, the creator of Deadly Premonition, and Yukio Futatsugi, the creator of Panzer Dragoon.
In this game, you'll become Naomi, a journalist from New York who has to go live in a rural English town in order to pay off her massive debt. This town is known as the 'happiest town in the world,' and harbors many secrets.
We want to make a 'slow life' game that isn't actually slow, and create a brand new type of game: daily life action-adventure! Please, give us your support!
We'll be supplying you with lots of info up until the campaign starts next week, so get excited!
