That new AoD video is up on GameTrailers.

So, Codexers, go and upvote it immediately as it's currently at 7.7. Amazingly enough the comments so far are mostly positive, so be sure to downvote negative comments lololz

I'm actually a bit surprised that there are *some* positive comments. While I like gametrailers for their wealth of game videos, reading the comments is usually a bit like reading comments on youtube.

Still, it's probably nice PR that you guys are on there. I think it's quite a popular site, so hopefully some people will become interested. :P

Why is everybody so fat? As a descendant of the ancient Romans, i find this offensive. I demand a complete overhaul of every model in the game.

After all questions about speed I am surprised that you didn't speed up second video, at least you could change speed in middle of the video. As for the score 6 would be good if it would hold up, most people will see grapchics and vote 1-4 it is not like it is surprising. They give better scores to other games even if they don't want to play it simply becouse of grapchics also. Those video could also use ending screen whit game futures and website address.

Quite frankly, the video sucks. Oh well, I won't be playing AoD for the combat, anyway.

3 minutes to kill 3 men !! i really hate turn based RPGs and this one is the worst !

Announcing the new metric for game awesomeness: dead men/minute! Alert ISO! SI needs changing ASAP! Oh, we need a name, too. Suggestions welcome.

To address the speed complaints, retake this video with animation speed set to the highest, and switch the music for Yakety Sax.

Care to elaborate?
Sure.
First, it's turn based combat. It is a lot more interesting when it's you pushing the buttons than when you see someone else do it. It was also too slow - all those minutes are spent watching some boring combat animations.
And all the stuff you did was meaningless to the viewer. The variety of attacks meant nothing to me, since I don't know the difference. From your point of view, it may have been a run-through of AoD combat mechanics. From mine, it was a bunch of clicks and combat animations.
And the ending - gah...

I know they're coming but the lack of sound effects REALLY detract from the gameplay. It's like watching a porno with the mute button on -- close but not quite.

The FO1&2 sound effects are very minimal, raw, bare, yet oh so effective. Please strive to *eventually* implement a similar range of sound effects for AoD (copy the dagger slash sound, tweak the frequencies, and voila).

The gore slider/dial is a great option. Please try to *eventually* implement a similar feature.

I've gotta agree with lumpy, video's fine for those already in the know (who just want to see how the UI works, etc), but from a trailer standpoint it's very dull. I actually found the first video of AoD more interesting to watch.

My advice: Speed it up (a bit) and have more exploration around the level to begin with. I.E. show the zoom, pan about more. The camera was also too static during the combat, for a trailer I think you need more motion - otherwise viewers begin to focus on flaws, like the rather boring/dull lower part of the room.

In the absence of sound effects, maybe even consider a commentary (ala Witcher) or subtitles explaining exactly what's going on, how systems work etc. Not really needed for Codexers, but if your trying to drum up interest outside your regular haunts, could be useful. ATM it's like watching someone simply playing in a lazy manner, not demonstrating/showing it off.

But it's not meant to be a trailer, right? It's just a video showing the combat mechanics (we were told it's similar to Fallout, this is the proof). More videos showing different aspects of the game have been announced, if I'm not mistaken.

The time for "real" trailers to widen the audience and "hype" the game is a couple of months before the release. Bigger projects start the hype much earlier, but AoD doesn't have fancy CG sequences or eye-candy graphics, so it's more difficult to produce a good trailer (and I assume they are busy doing other stuff, like actually working on the game itself). It could be done by mixing art (static, concept art and drawings) with combat sequences and a bits of story and game features.

I always like to mess with different software and learn (like I did with PS for the AoD interface awhile back) and had an idea to make a little introductory trailer for AoD, but the material just isn't there for me to do so on my own. If VD is willing to send me a couple of those fancy concept art images from the AoD homepage (full resolution) and more in-game footage (random things, nothing particular), I could mix something up. The result would of course be subjected to approval from VD before any sort of "public" release, because I don't have much experience with this sort of thing and it could turn out to be utter crap. Or I could conclude that I suck and not finish it at all. Not a big deal, as only my time is "wasted".

Interested VD?

I find this is a lot more fun to watch if you narrate it with comments like,

“Ouch, do you mind?”
“Gosh, your sword came awfully close to striking my face there old chap.”
“Goodness me, I’m quite exhausted from all this. I’m going to have a bit of a lie down.”

In case The Age of Decadence hasn’t appeared on your radar, the game’s site describes it thusfully:

“The Age of Decadence is an isometric, turn-based, single-player 3D role-playing game set in a low magic, post-apocalyptic fantasy world, inspired by the fall of the Roman Empire.”

The oldest school of them all, it seems. If Gametrailer’s comment is the case - “Fight your way through the Roman Empire, one Centurion at a time!” at this speed this might be the longest game ever made.

Some great comments here:

I fell asleep watching that.

“Hey, it’s not your turn to hit me!”

Wow, I will never play a game like that, ever. I loathe turn-based games, which is the main reason why I refuse to play any Final Fantasy game. It takes me straight out of the immersion of a game when everyone lines up and takes TURNS swiping at each other. Give me something that involves my skill. I absolutely hate it when my hit chance relies on some random dice roll. That is pure and total BS.

I’ll take Oblivion, with all its flaws, over anything turn based.

I’d rather puke a lung, to be honest. It would probably be more fun.

Oh Christ, that was genuinely hilarious!
I love the dramatic descriptions of injury and death (”blood gushes into his throat like a hot weasel, choking him”) as the characters sort of fall to the floor like they’re in an amateur dramatics propduction of “People killed by Acorns” and have suddenly realised they’re supposed to be dead.

Faggots?

I'm pretty impressed myself! It's funny to see how the kiddies don't like the turn-based because it's last gen. It "puts them to sleep." Haha.

Great job VD. The production quality is much higher than I had originally thought. It's come a long way.

I find RPS to be kind of varied, but interesting enough to browse now and again. Guess not everyone can be as hardcore as the Codex

To be fair, there are some proponents of the game there as well, it seems. Maybe someone from here, trying to spread the word. Or something.

Reading through some of the comments on the gametrailers page makes me wonder how some people can be so proud of their ignorance.
