I really missed the sword from Fable on the list. Without spoiling too much and paraphrasing Ron Burgundy: It's kinda of a big deal.

Inspired by this list however, I started wondering.. what are the 10 most legendary guns in gaming?

Post your suggestions and the reason why.

Number one is a no brainer: the BFG 9000 from Doom 1/2.

For others suggestions...

The chaingun, also from Doom.

The RYNO from Ratchet and Clank.

The Gauss rifle from Half Life.

The Laptop Gun from Perfect Dark.

The Sniper scope gun thingy from MDK.

The disc launcher from Tribes.

The Stake Gun from Painkiller

The Smart Rifle from Aliens Versus Predator

The Redeemer from Unreal Tournament.

The Sheep Launcher from whichever Worms sequel that first had it.

The pistol from SiN.

Hm, also, wasn't there a Land Shark Gun in Armed and Dangerous?

That's true. Though that wasn't a gun. If we were going to count non-gun weapons I would have mentioned the banana bomb, super sheep, Mad Cow, Kamikaze giant metal donkey that falls from the sky, and prod.

Oh yeah, how could I forget "Heavy Machinegun!" from Metal Slug.

Ordinary pulse rifle from AvP 1 and 2.

Why? Why because of the sweet music it sings of course.
And because you cannot have an Alien game or a movie without it.
Sure smartgun is useful cheat but you can have Alien whatever without it.
Not without a good ol` pulse rifle.

Nothing like suddenly running out of light just as they rush you and then madly shooting everything around you in shear panic.

Crossbow from HL1 and 2.

Rocket launcher with homing laser from HL 1 and 2.

The Pulse Rifle wasn't even in Alien. If any weapon is iconic of the Alien series it's the flamethrower.

Ok, if we're going to cheat and not use only guns I'm going to say the little explosion worms make when they run out of health!

It's hard to beat any of the original Doom guns. The shotgun, pistol, plasma, all were great.

Bio Rifle FTW!!!

Seriously though, I think the Flak Cannon is a good candidate.

That quad-barreled gun from Duke 3D. The RPG from Worms. Honourable mention to the rocket LOUNCHER and possibly MO-BEEL satellite from Metal Slug, if only for the funny pronunciation. And that zappy electricity gun from GTA2.

The first person to say the Fatman from FO3 gets a punch in the face.

I'd go with The Redeemer from the Unreal Tournament series for #1 spot. A mini-nuke that you can steer... go right up your enemy's ass if you wish.

Also, special mention goes to the pop-gun a.k.a. Dispersion Pistol from Unreal. Upgradable weapons weren't that frequent in the old-school FPS genre. Plus, it has 2 firing modes.

And the Rocket Launcher from the Quake series gets special cred for being insanely popular in multiplayer matches, although the UT series always had a better version.

Then there's the BFG from Doom, the good old Flak Cannon and the Shock Rifle (combo whores know why) from the UT series, Quake 4's Nailgun, and like Hiver said, the Crossbow from Half-Life series.

Also, does the Gravity Gun from HL2 count? It isn't exactly a gun but well, it is deadly. And if the G-Gun counts, then I gotta mention the Translocator from UT2003/2004, which can be used for killing via telepunting, but mostly just for teleporting from place to place and spying via spy cam.

I'm probably forgetting something but, these 10 weapons are zee best of zee best for me.

Doesnt matter. First time you hear that sweet sound you cannot imagine Alien without it anymore.
Flamethrower? Meh. Meh i say!

I would suggest a few weapons from Far Cry like ordinary assault rifle or sniper but they were fun because of the mechanics of the game.

Gravity gun from HL2, sure.
If for nothing else then for those pathetic attempts of other companies to copy it but claim they had that idea on their own or even before HL2.

Damn... i cant remember anything else.... where is my memory?!

The title says "Gaming", not "Shooters", so I nominate Flash Gitz' Deffgunz from Dark Crusade. Feel unreliable but awesome, like all Orky technology. They can outshoot Obliterators, Terminators, Fire Warriors, Dark Reapers... Dakka incarnate, fuck yeah!

It's Doom's birthday today. 10 December 1993. :)

Hmm, Q1's rocket launcher holds it's own. A simple, fast, deadly rocket. UT's in comparison was too slow and had a silly alternative fire. No where near the same effect on matches as Q1's.

Q2's Railgun deserves a mention too..though from my point of view, more for the infamy\annoyance factor. Never liked that weapon. No ejecting brass, no mad jumping to avoid it (being airborne meant dying vs a railgun), no big explosions. Bzzp. Dead. Though I suppose being airborne, and killing someone with a well placed single shot from the railgun could be satisfying.

I forgot about all the great UT weapons and their alternative fire modes. Anyone here purchase UT3? Does it's bot matches still capture the feel of the original UT..or is it awash in console stench?
