I bought this game in late 2012 and bought it again when it was released. Incline has no price to my wallet.
I too preordered in 2012 for 50€, then bought it on Steam upon release. Sometimes you have to show support.

I always make sure to have at least 8(i dont know if this is the cutoff btw) lore before I go tthere, regardless of build.I got 3 lore for free as a merc, then later didn't really need more combat skills so just kept upping lore and crafting for all the weird machines and locations.

Improving lore is what makes more sense in-game thinking about the marriage of the setting with gameplay, since your character is actually exploring and learning about the world. Increasing crafting is less justifiable by SP alone without training, but that's cRPGs for you.

After three different playthroughs, here is what I think:

PROS:
- The writing and characters are top notch.
- C&C, obviously.
- Combat is pretty good.
- The level-less character system is well done.
- The "teleporting" to avoid wasting time on running around is a big plus.

CONS:
- The frigging rotating camera drives me nuts. I would have definitely preferred a 2D game with a fixed camera angle.
- The frustration factor is a bit too high, eg. you spend your skill points not perfectly and can become completely stuck later in the game, because you cannot get any more skill points.
- My fighter build was unable to progress beyond a certain point. Despite beating all but the last enemy in the arena, he was still not good enough to succeed in important fights (Ordu, Power Armor, Hector, the Arch gang, etc.).

Agree, I just think combat is great, not just p. good.

2D would be too expensive to lookd good (good sprite artists are rare today and expensive) and harder to change stuff.
Frustration factor is a pro to me. When my character is stuck, I look around and find something I didn't know before or die. Die = start again
Bad fighter: git gud

This is just splendid. Made a talky thief good at sneaking and killing in dialogue.

Ganezzar first thief quest is either killing that big monster or using lockpick and traps, I need to raise both else I die. Fuck. So many points wasted.

Come on. AOD is great and all but graphics there are certainly the weakest point by far. That annoying camera, square like level disign plus not the best optimization It would look a lot better even in cheap 2d. (check out the Underrail or even the earliest AOD screenshots). Small indie companies can still make nice looking 2d art like the banner saga. Also the "Inquisitor" the game itsealf is broken but hot Damn it looks good.

I've noticed a lot of players saying it's possible to become "completely stuck" or "unable to progress" when in fact they are only stuck in some quests or can't reach their preferred solution. AoD seems to do a great job at offering alternative ways to progress your story, unlike most CRPGs.

Sorry, but Underrail looks awful.

I'd rather look at AoD.

Banner Saga art has ok cartoon looks:

The artist(s) was probably talented and expensive. Using 3D art nowadays must be way easier.

I still prefer AoD more realistic style (the weapons look particularly great) than this, but I guess it's a subjective preference thing.
