Had a nice situation yesterday. I was trying to recruit a party to fight Kalameet. There was one guy but he was so near Artorias I thought he'd prefer him. So I went to the valley and got invaded by a spirit of vengeance (weird, my Sin is equal to exactly 1 according to the Book of Guilty ;)). Since I thought I completely suck at multiplayer, I decided to run to the boss fog.

And I soloed him. Without cutting of the tail, but meh, I'll do this some other time. Soloing Kalameet is a :smug: experience; even though I guess for people who finished the game many times he's a pushover like any other boss.

Then I went to Kiln of the First Flame and won 3 PvP duels in a row. Maybe I'm finally getting the hang of this.

It's also possible that people hanging out in Oolacile Township are good PvPers while people running around the Kiln are a more random bunch.

Oolacile is one of the preferred PvP grounds I believe, so you probably fight a lot of people there who are looking for PvP as opposed to experimenting with it.

I never ever used pyromancy, and I had tons of souls right now, so decided instead of levelling I'd upgrade my Pyromancy Flame (it's +9 or +10 now). I wanted to use the Black Flame. My question is: it always does no damage. Is that's how it's supposed to be? Is it only meant to break guard?

Similar to Great Combustion. Melee-range pyromancy. A quick and powerful melee spell designed to break guards. Consumes a very high amount of stamina when blocked.

It's probably being blocked. Are you on NG+ or higher? +10 glove might not cut it. I can take out most enemies with a couple fire orbs and +15 glove on NG+. Great combustion also works well.

Thanks, yes, I'm on NG+. What I find weird is that regular hollow soldiers in Undead Burg are also completely unaffected byt it :)

Yeah for some stupid reason they can block combustion. Fire orb goes through most shields though. Makes no sense.

Okay so I'm stuck at the Capra Demun. I feel like it's the first really REALLY challenging boss. Asylum and Taurus are easy, and the Bell Gargoyle(s) can be done with Lautec and Solaire.

The worst thing is, I know I have to go up the stairs, but I can't past his first blow.

Roll towards his right leg (the leg to your left); so, when he attacks roll kinda to the left but more towards him. Then run like hell to the stairs. Reverse, block 1 dog with your shield, kill the dog, run up. From that point it'll be easy (remember there's a 2nd dog around).

Wear light armor, so you can move quickly. I recommend a shield against the 1st dog.

There are certainly lots of other ways of avoiding the Demon's first attack, but rolling towards his leg is what works for me.

Stairs are really irrelevant to the fight. What is relevant is the dogs. Focus on killing them and Capra is pathetically easy once you know his moveset (every non-twohanded attack = easily blockable, two handed attacks = easily dodgeable).

Kill the nearby dog ASAP. Kite around Capra using his mass as a shield against the 2nd dog until he commits to an attack and you have a free shot on the 2nd dog unmolested. From there it's child's play.

Or kill Capra from outside the fog gate by throwing firebombs over it :)

No I'm not doing that. I want to actually fight dat nigga.

Easily blockable ? I dunno about that. I only have a Knight Shield right now, I blocked a one-handed blow once, it staggered me to hell and back.

Or maybe I'm just too weak for this fight ? Should I just go soul farming for a bit ?

I think just about anyone should be able to take his one-handed attacks with a decent shield so long as their stamina is at full. Maybe find a slightly better shield or give it a few upgrades if you want.

I gotta admit this game is a lot more fun w/ melee build. No desire to finish NG+ with my mage anymore.

Now I have to rethink just about every fight though. Enemies that were easy before are much harder, and vice versa.

Magic becomes rather unbalanced from the moment you get Logan's spells onwards. Crystal Soul Spear, Homing Crystal Soulmass and Dark Bead just tear bosses apart. At first it was amusing, but later on it was boring. I also find pure melee to be much more fun. Dex/faith builds are also quite fun and versatile.

I find faith builds to be the most boring. Thier healing and regenration spells remove the tension of attrition when you can just load up on spells to heal. 2H str melee is my favourite. Dex pyro is lazy mode. And magic was fun... but not for long. I cannot wait for DS2 :bounce:

Yeah, I forgot. Of course, don't lock on to the Capra Demon, you won't be able to roll in the way I described.

Incidentally, I started winning some PvP fights when I decided to fight completely without lock-on.

based Miyazoe

Asked whether From Software and Namco ever considered a Wii U port, Miyazoe bluntly replies: “No.” When asked why, he explodes with laughter. “Wii U never came up, and we never doubted that (decision) either,” he says. “It was more of a company decision, so I wasn’t the one that decided this, but I think the audience for the Wii U is a lot different from the audience for Dark Souls.”

with Dark Souls I think it would be hard to monetise in that way. Pay per death? That would be terrible. From Software especially don’t want to allow players to pay for an advantage.
:incline:

For Dark Souls 2, we don’t even expect any additional downloadable content because we want to deliver a full game, the full experience, to fans who purchase the package from day one

what about those re skins for weapons:M???

If you haven't figured it out (took me a while) blocking is as much about stamina management as it is about stats, although they surely help. If you're keeping your shield up all the time your stamina will regenerate very slowly. Since the Capra attacks so often and his hits take a lot of stamina he'll thunderbastard through your block very quickly. You need to block just before an attack and then drop it so your stamina has time to regenerate ready for the next attack. It also helps keep you stay manoeuvrable so you can better position yourself, not get forced into corners etc.

Soul farming is probably a good idea but mostly so you can get used to the game. Practise your parry, riposte, backstabbing. Get to know areas and the mobs, start learning their move sets and their timings. More important than stats is learning to relax and study the game. Especially with boss fights. If you ever have trouble just forget trying to beat the boss for a while, accept you'll die, forget about any souls or humanity you're carrying and just focus on the bosses moves. Learn what they are, how they are signposted so you know when they are coming, then how to avoid them. This is also a reason to practise without lock on. Sometimes it's cool but it can restrict your view, which in some boss fights can be fatal. It can also force you into a habit of only parrying etc when you're all lined up in a certain way. So while it may help at the start it will ultimately limit you. That's not to say you should never lock on, just don't rely on it. A personal example would be the Stray Demon. Once I stopped staring at his fat belly due to lock on and looked up I started to read his attacks. That one change alone meant I went from "JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!" to "Oh wow that was kinda easy".

A nice early place to farm if you're new is between Andre and the Hellkite Drake. Good souls for the time, good variation of enemies/weapon types and nice drops. Especially titanite so you can upgrade your gear. Although you can always buy it. I also recommend buying/trying different weapons that drop or the merchants sell. Even if you don't like the idea of a weapon you might find it has a specific move you really love or is at least useful. That place served as a nice little training ground for my first playthrough which was ultimately more important than the extra soul levels. Just don't do it for too long, there's lot's of great stuff to see, do and learn.

If you gotta grind and you're still SL < 20, I prefer co-op in Undead Burg. That area gets a ton of traffic and the boss is super easy.

If you're into high risk/reward, Demon Ruins is a good place for farming. That's after Blighttown though.

accept you'll die, forget about any souls or humanity you're carrying

You'll probably enjoy the game more if you forget about souls in general. Unless you enjoy getting pissed.

What am I saying? This is the Codex :x

yeah, having a +5 decent shield (like the heater if you like to parry) is almost a must by this point

I didn't read it all yet, but I like how it says "Above: the mirror knight.." and the image does not show the Mirror Knight at all.

Edit: It makes me really happy to see they're rethinking the whole "messages being rated heal you" thing and that the increased difficulty towards the end of the beta was not in fact an extra mode or NG+, and that it's closer to the difficulty they intend for the game.

Storytelling done in the same way as in Dark Souls 1? Hell yes :3

Conclusion: Amazing :incline: ahead.
