By the way, Artorias's buff goes away with time. On my SL 20 character he managed to buff and I wanted to play it safe, so I just dodged a lot and kept my shield up just in case until it went away. If you keep doing damage, he can recasts it and I believe it can stack, though.

Anyways on the topic of speedruns, there was a new world record recently and it's 1:25 (!!)

Artorias really isn't that difficult to dodge. Every one of his moves has extremely obvious tells, and they're all very straightforward, none of this "raise your weapon for 2 seconds before actually swinging" bullshit some enemies have. Kind of a pity that you ended up cheesing it with Havel's and Iron Flesh, one of the points of the bossfight is to punish players who overly rely on blocking and high defense.

Unfortunately for you, Iron Flesh doesn't really help against Manus, so you might need to git gud anyway.

Yeah, some of those shortcuts he took, especially through blighttown blew my mind.

Eh, the Blighttown shortcut ain't even that difficult to do, I managed to pull it off after a few tries. Skipping Duke's Archives or Ceaseless Discharge is a lot more impressive.

Somehow I've never had problems with Manus. I took him on my first character on the first try without iron flesh, and I took him on my first try with my second character (this one) without iron flesh. Actually without using any buffs at all. Maybe I'm already gud?
:martini:

And also, it's not that the blighttown jump looks that difficult to do (it does), but more like how on earth someone came up with this idea, it looks like suicide, but then it's not. I was really surprised when he did that all of the sudden, and I never would have thought of it.

>gets raped by Artie without cheesing him
>thinks he's gud
yeah, no..

Man I just thought about the ultimate way to troll all the bosses in dark souls. Crystal soul spear and homing crystal soul mass WITH iron flesh.

it's funny that you think you'd be trolling anyone but yourself (unless you're doing a speedrun)
I'll have you know that I beat the game with my first character (including artorias) without using any cheese at all. Unless you consider using the black knight halberd to be cheese too. And also, it's not really cheese when I'm not using any glitch or cheat, but rather a strategy that the developers put there for you to use all along. Who knows? Maybe that's how the boss was intended to be beaten, just as ceaseless discharge (maybe) wasn't really intended to be taken on in a straight fight.

The first time it's all about being scared shit of what's coming around the corner, and enjoying the awesome lore, graphics and sounds and raging a lot because you die all time and then rejoicing when you finally make it. The second time and beyond is all fun and games and about power gaming and trolling the bosses. At least that's how I get my enjoyment from dark souls.

Edit: ah I finally understood that it was no coincidence that he went to every boss with low hp, it was to buff his damage.

I heard GFWL was shutting down, is From patching Dark Souls not to use it anymore?
There's no indication of dark souls 2 using GFWL, no. If you go to the website, it's not one of the icons below. Though honestly, I don't see why it's so bad. It works just fine.

Yeah, I know that. I want to know if in the near future, I'll be able to play Dark Souls 1 without the fucking GFWL since it's supposed to shut down soon.

This was just released yesterday:

A since-deleted support article for Age of Empires Online stated that the GFWL service would be discontinued on July 1, 2014. Although Microsoft has not yet made an official announcement on the matter, a number of developers took this to mean that their games would effectively become unplayable in July and began work to divorce them from GFWLs, often switching over to Steamworks.

However, a large number of developers remained quiet about plans, so Joystiq reached out to get the official word on what the future may hold for their games past July.

Namco Bandai
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon - Enhanced Edition (Exploring options, but no set plans yet.)
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition (Exploring options, but no set plans yet.)

Maybe now that they have more experience with computer ports, they can do something about it.

What happened to your GFWL? I don't think it will get fixed on its own, but I had to help a friend of mine who had problems with it like 3 times so I remember a couple of ways that can possibly fix it. Is it the whole "this profile cannot be signed in to Live" crap?

yup. it worked fine for a year and a half. i tried:
1) resetting the router to factory settings. reopening the ports. enable port triggering (because why not)
2) reinstalling GFWL (uninstalled both GFWL things and the Live ID assistant), i can login into the client marketplace application but the in-game piece of shit still doesn't let me login
3) deleting internet history + flushdns
4) checking if the Background Internet TS service is running (it is)
5) installing an older version of GFWL (3.3), but this one doesn't let me login into the client and in-game it wants to update, and i let it, but then it says it cannot install the update

:x:x:x:x:x/:flamesaw:

:negative:
Have you tried uninstalling DSfix (reinstalling the game will not help, it is still there)? I had the same problem, and thought it was GFWL, but it was actually DSfix that caused it. I later reinstalled it and it worked fine.

Thx Bubbles. One of the main reasons not to reinstall Dark Souls for another playthrough is GFWL but in march arrives ds2 so...

Edit: the other reason I like it is the accessibility. Pinwheel can be taken out in less than 5 minutes easily if you know where to jump down, and then all you have to do after is kill Patches, and he's a fucking joke. Also, he's an asshole so I enjoy killing him. The Gravelord sword is more of a pain in the ass to get imo, and I like it less as a weapon anyways.

Oh, I thought of some other things.

When you go to get the Gravelord sword, ensure you have a bow with a shitton of arrows. You can kill the Tin Demon and get a Demon Titanite to upgrade the GLS. Another one is at the pathway between Undead Parish and Darkroot Garden. You can easily use the GLS all the way into bonus content since all of its damage is physical. It's not the best weapon, but you get a lot for how little you put into it.

16/13 (or 24/13 if you want to one-hand it, which I usually prefer) STR/DEX. You can then dump the rest of your stats into VIT/END and your Pyro glove. Or, INT/FTH if you want some other magic. The boosted STR is ok since it helps Dark magics hit harder (if you go for INT build).

Ex for PvE: http://mmdks.com/5bcw

14 dex so I can use a Longbow.
24 str to one-hand gravelord sword
16 att so I get 4 spell slots.

All at SL 121.
