That game cash cow we all knew Bethesda were working on has been announced. Say GameBanshee:

At the Spike TV 2010 Video Game Awards this evening, Bethesda Softworks' Todd Howard took the stage to officially reveal The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with a cinematic trailer that seemed to suggest that dragons (and obviously Nords) are going to be a major theme in the sequel. No mention of multiplayer was made during Todd's quick speech, so I can only assume it will be another single player RPG in the long-running franchise. Set your calendars for November 11, 2011.

You can watch the trailer in HD on GameTrailers (It involves dragons and epic music... and that's about it really, other than the release date).

Thanks Khan!

Meh. When they have so many potentially interesting provinces (wood & high elf, argivian & hadjit homelands), they choose to show a silly faux-viking one. How interesting, how interesting.

Not that there's much hope for them after Oblivion and F3, though.

No scaled leveling this time around. And I'm sure Bethesda has learned a thing or two from Obsidian and their experience with Fallout 3.

This will be a return to Morrowind I'm sure of it. The environments will be much better than the generic plains found in Oblivion, and I'm sure everything won't be so awkward and stilted.

I can't even understand half of what the voice-over narration is saying.

Except for the brilliant one-liner:

When the truth finally dawned, it dawns in fire!

Jesus Christ, the writing is so terrible.

IMO f3 was a huge improvement over oblivion.

Holy fuck, it's HEAVAN! That whole trailer looked more like a whole bunch of multi-headed dicks hitting ass and leg than anything leg. Shit, I hope there are SNOWcrabs this time around.

Bad writing? From Bethesda? Unpossible.

Yeah, coz Bethesda has so many motivations to fix that stuff no one complained about for their multi-million selling title.

Funny, because Cyrodil was supposed to be a tropical forest IIRC, yet that didn't matter to Bethesda's team. Expect generic planes with snow.

I always foolishly give them the benefit of the doubt and remain hopeful. Well no more, Bethesda has proven beyond all doubt, I think, that they're incompetent and are only capable of making 13yearoldboy-tier fantashit that is consolised and not so much an rpg as an action game.
Just wait for the announcements of regening health, 3rd person cover system and moddable weapons with decals and emblem moddability.

Also what the fuck are gamebanshee on about multiplayer? How does multiplayer work in TES?

Now they've set such an iconic date (11.11.11.), they're going to have to stick to it.
Big mistake.

The game is practically an offline MMO as it is. Fuck this shit, I will only pre-order it 2 months early and play it only 10 times.

Well, there is a TES MMO coming.
It'll no doubt suck like everything else Bethesda do.

Actually surprised they didn't call it Oblivion II. Wonder if they'll rip off ego draconis' dragon form.

Wasn't this game supposed to be near done with FO4 being the one in production now? Didn't expect it to take another year to be released.

Bethesda's writing just gets progressively worse and worse, doesn't it? That was painfully generic.

Have they had enough time to develop or even license a new engine? There's no way they're using Gamebryo again, right?

Right?!?

Edit: Fuck it. I'm heading over to TESF to see what I can dig up. Wish me luck -- if I'm not back in 30 minutes you can all have my stuff.

'Painfully generic dialogue' would be a vast improvement over F3's dialogue...

Nothing officials, but they've made comments they're using GameBryo again. "Significantly upgraded".

EDIT: here
Eurogamer: Is it fair to say then that it's based on existing technology?

Todd Howard: The technology is ours and it is inspired by the technology we have. We have a lot of it. But that's our starting point - the Fallout 3 tech. It started with Morrowind, we went to Oblivion, we did a lot between Oblivion and Fallout 3 because now we had final hardware - with Oblivion we had six months on final hardware, so Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that.

I can say it is on the existing platforms, which we're really happy with. You almost feel like you have a new console when you see the game.
