Which arguably betrays his own taste in games.

In which I wordswordswordswords about Tony Hawk. Apologies for the 4:3-y-ness of much of this video, but that's what happens when you deal with older titles.

Seriously, though, I cut out so much of the stupid things I wanted to show for time - the offensive large hyper competitive lesbian from Project 8, racing a kid in a wheelchair with a rocket propelled scooter, Jason Lee, Bam Magera asking you to push tourists into the water at Alcatraz in THPS4, the hospital bill mechanic from Project 8, the "Hardcore Lifestyle" schtick from Proving Grounds, driving cars over hotdog stands in THUG... the number of absurd and silly things they tried to keep the series fresh after the third game is sort of incredible.

Yah, we really care about sports games in codex, we really do.

(still I find early Tony Hawk games enjoyable).

I am not saying anything bad about his latest video, only saying that I doubt most of the Codex would really care about evolution of skateboarding games.

I personally found his latest video, and it's topic, well, just boring.

The topic is game design, which is always interesting, even when looked at through a game about a subject I don't care about. It's one of his best videos so far.

Yes, great video, he really explored all that the franchise went throught and what worked and what not.

That was a really well done, well thought out analysis. Nice to see him talking about game mechanics again.

I liked it, he does have a point that saying "X is not a game" is just people trying to make games be only what they like/want... that's why fair codexia calling them "banal shit boring popamole GAMES" is way more honest.

But there is a lot of interactive screensavers being selled like games out there. To the moon, Dear Esther, Today i die, 30 flights of love, etc...

There are plenty of games that I don't like... but I recognize them as actually being games. That is, they offer gameplay and aren't just a presentation of 'art.' A good exemplary differentiation is Dear Esderp versus Stanley Parable.

Fuck dis metaphysical talking-in-circles shit. What is the definition of a "game"? How about this -- What is a "car"? Is a "flying car" still a "car"? What about a "computer"? Does a calculator count as a "computer"?

He keeps drilling on dis, he'd become a great patent lawyer, drafting patent claims defining what the invention is. Hipster.

But what good the definition does anyway? The only thing you're doing when you say "Stanley Parable is a game, but Dear Ester isn't" is taking things you don't approve out of the category you have interest in.

Is as relevant as a 16-old kid saying that post-Black Album Metallica isn't Metal anymore...

I got a question: What if you like Walking Dead/Dreamfall but consider them horrible games? (inb4 then u a faggot haha)

I can't provide some descriptive argument that destroys Errant Signal's, but the gist is; I play Walking Dead and Dreamfall with five or six guys and gals from my circle of friends, and we have a hoot. We all agree that, as a game, they are pretty shitty, though. That is, we enjoy the stories, we enjoy "watching" them and having limited input with them because that's perfect when you have that setup, but "playing" them is pretty bland.

How do you propose to settle this view with Campster's arguments in this video?

It's an honest question, I don't have the answer.

Yeah, an entire video arguing about what a word means with no substance at all. Sounds like your typical Campster video.

People like him are fucking cunts. Cunts like him are the reason why gay means homosexual now, instead of happy.

If that's all there is to it, then it doesn't pass muster in my eyes. I'm not a youngfag who lacks conviction in the soundness of my grasp of concepts, language, and definitions. That is not a game. Let's move on.
