As much as I hate furries, turning abbeys into factories is definitely an :incline:

to be fair, the furries first bombed it with giant crystal meteors, then the humans turned it into an insane asylum for people traumatized by the giant crystal meteors crushing all their homes and loved ones...

then grass grew all over the place and the furries built a metal town with a metal highway there and called it smokestead, which is a pretty stupid name, just as building houses and streets out of metal is.

The potato finds a clue:

CDA: I've seen people complaining that combat in Guild Wars 2 sometimes seems too flashy and thus chaotic, with all the explosions and spell effects rolling on the screen. Will you do anything about it?

EF: It's a thing we're actually working on. We recognize it's one of the problems the game has right now. And it probably won't even be a matter that you'll have to turn them off yourself. The game will be smart about it, trying to tone down things in areas where there's too many effects. So we'll have a system to take care of that.

I hope the game will have a fuckton of graphical options to modify, even with a "smart" system. Good that they figured it out though, WoW for one can be a goddamned nightmare to those with epilepsy or colour blindness.

Hell, even to me it's a goddamned flash overload.

Seems inevitable at this point.

Also, gotta say, I'd like to hear more samples of GW2 music and ambients. There was some with those 4 game art trailers, and the mix of ambient/orchestral was pretty well done, would like to see if they're keeping it consistent.

One of the big things that LotRO's Mines of Moria had going for it was well-done ambient sounds in the Mines, would hope to see more games with that part done right. No big deal if it isn't, of course, I have my playlist, but would be neat.

Edit: Hmm, a somewhat old video regarding the ANet's plans for GW2 PvP. Might have been here already, but I haven't seen it til now. Sounds quite promising, especially the world PvP.

Basically same here, I've managed to get just about everyone interested in GW2 in my guild, so we'll be mass-transferring from WoW in all our unwashed glory. I also happen to run our fine establishment, so obviously am obliged to play with that, but I will be joining the 'dexian guild for certain as well, and possibly with a few guildies (they lurk).

:/

Organised PvP only 5v5? I guess with the disgustingly homogenised professions you won't get much opportunity to specialise regardless of team size.

Competitive* PvP. I understand GW1 also had a 5-man cap? Not sure as I've not actually played GW1 that far. Anyway, think of WoW arena with this. Yeah, I kinda agree that it sucks to have such a low cap, 10v10 would be more fun, in my opinion, but the devs already said that they have the attitude of "We'll add things that people will be really asking for", so maybe a 10v10 PvP mode would appear, too.

Besides the WvWvW PvP is also organized, and supposedly massive, just not "competitive". I'm alright with this kind of a division, personally, and WvWvW sounds like the good old AV in vanilla WoW, which was awesome.

Errr, no. It was 8 (guild battle, heroes' ascent, competitive missions), 4 (arenas) or 12 (Alliance Battles). Heroes' Ascent used to be 6-man, but they changed it to 8 later.

Ah, thanks. Am not that familiar with GW1 PvP model. I would presume they would intend the thing to grow - hopefully anyway.

To be honest, one somewhat smart thing to do would be if they would continue to update the game - some updates, mainly balance and some overall content (story, world zones, general smaller group activities), to be free for everyone, and then, to sell specific content at low prices to specialized audiences. Like, if you want 10v10 bracket, shell out 12 bucks (a regular MMO monthly sub is 15), and enjoy it as long as you like. If you like raiding, shell out 12 buxx and enjoy - and if you like both, buy a pack of both for 19.99. Yeah, it's micro-transaction, but it's the sort I'd at least not be pissed off at since I can then choose the content I want to buy out of a wide range of options.

Mind you, I'd prefer everything to be free, but I am expecting the devs need to feed themselves and return the investment on what seems to have been a pretty expensive project, and this is a model I could actually, well, support, as long as prices are reasonably low, and content is reasonably rich.

MT should be just for cosmetic and convenience stuff.

And with this I also agree - though if it is, as I said, I don't see them breaking even within even a decade. It's not WoW where they can raise millions within days selling rainbow ponies to Konjad.

There's been rather little mentioned about MT though, so it's pointless to speculate - and the few bits that were mentioned were indeed pointing in the direction of "cosmetics". However, reasonably priced (hell, sell DLCs size of New Vegas DLCs with five buxx and you'll make millions) addons or DLCs could be a way for ANet to realistically return investments and make a profit, and I think they'll be dipping into that market at least in some way - the extent of it, and the pricing, remains to be seen. If it's retardedly high, though, people will just abandon the game, and it'll just die, and I would expect the company to know this.

But yeah. I rather buy a raid pack and raid/pvp my ass off for as long as I want for free afterwards, than pay monthly fees for MMOs like WoW to get new content once in 6 to 9 months, and be told I'm "lucky" I even got THAT.

Orly. Go to any bigger outpost and see how many run around with DLC outfits.

I'm expecting the Anet model to be just releasing a major content pack every year. I mean, it worked well for them so far...

Of course GW2 is a much more expensive project but still, it's going to be the next big thing in the MMO market.

ncsoft thought the same way. they almost didn't release the wedding pack for cox, which was somewhat of a pity content update for people who wanted to get married.
thing sold so fucking much that now they pump cosmetic packs out like there's no tomorrow and started selling costumes in gw as well.
