Would love to play it but I doubt it would run on this laptop.

Will have to wait for retail. Still have my mind set on playing Sylvari Thief.

Yeah, the beta didn't really capture me. It doesn't seem to have anything that wasn't done before in some way shape or form by wow or its clones. I'll wait for another Ultima Online.
I find it funny they want "feedback" about the story and characters when it's really hard to give a shit about the story (thief human) and characters are one dimensional as fuck

What'd you think of structured PVP, WvWvW, dynamic events, 5 man dungeons, outdoor quests, and the 14 other storylines?

Daoc was not a WoW clone :rpgcodex:

Black has been spergin' in this thread for so long I didn't expect anything else than "meh" from him.

EvE is/will be my "oh shit I lost everything noooo" mmo and GW2 for lulz.

structured PVP

How does one into this?
Really?

Is this the Codex?

I give you a weekend to figure it out. :smug:

Anyways, the only thing you can't do at level 1 is the dungeons so that was a bit facetious. And you'll probably have more fun in WvWvW if you unlock all your weapon skills, or at least the ones on the weapons you want to use.

Hoaxmetal Actually I agree with Black on the human storyline. Actually there are three different storylines (for each race). But I still don't like the human ones.

Actually I don't like doing personal storylines that much in general. But fortunately Anet gave us other things to do.

three times three + c&c branching (not sure if the other choice has its own story set as well), and while the thirst set for humans all suck for different reasons (only tried nobility and street, not commoner) at least one from the second set was kinda cool (carnival ftw).

Well, gotta admit that the Asura starter area is p. fun so far. Cool environmental weapons, nice minigames and cool quests, looks like they've taken special care of that one. Also, remember to explore folks, this game rewards it quite well, I found a cave with a mini-boss inside that doesn't show on the minimap and can only be accesed through a small grotto in a lake.

Got it!

Edit: some very early impressions on the structured PvP:

Energy system completely removed, probably heard that somewhere before but it was still surprising. Good chunk of depth from the previous game gone. Cooldowns are banal and it just so happens that the interesting skills are on the longest.

The skill system appears to be boring as hell. Not surprisingly it seems that they are promoting all builds doing vaguely the same thing though with all the splitting in the point capture gamemode pure support roles would be of limited utility. There's nothing like playing a Mesmer in GW1 for instance where a well timed Diversion/Shame/Power Leak could badly fuck up a character whereas just spamming these would do utterly nothing and you're totally reliant on your team to exploit the effects of your skills, and of course to keep you alive. The skills don't synergise in interesting ways either, which rules out the ridiculous variety of viable builds in the first game. Say what you want about gimmicks like IWAY but it definitely showed the intricacy of the skill system.

Everyone appears to be shoehorned into the 'damage, some debuffs and a self heal' kind of role. You can bend your character in the direction of moar buffs/debuffs or damage and the classes have some slant to them but there's only so much malleability to the skill system.

The equilibrium that existed in GW1 between offense and defense is not present since everyone is a damage oriented character. Shit dies often and deaths aren't nearly as consequential. Getting kills is essentially inevitable rather than a matter of breaching the enemy's defenses.

Gameplay feels much more spammy and actiony. Casting spells while moving, jumping, dodging. There isn't even a bar that shows what your target is casting, wtf? Casualty of the all powerful dodge mechanic I guess. Positioning is much less important with removed collision, dodging and plenty of dash-type skills. Most skills activate fairly quickly (oh and casting time is no longer specified in the UI) which in conjunction with the lack of cast bar means what remains of the ways to disrupt opponents tends to be fairly imprecise.

Still better than confusing your playerbase with the undue complexity of following up Sever Artery with Gash, though.

I never played GW1 but so far GW2 underwhelms me. Character skills seem very boring and limited, character system in general doesn't look like it holds much promise. I like how the quest zone is just an open area that you explore and you stumble upon various in-progress quests that you can complete along with 50+ other people. However, the combat itself is boring, not tactical at all, and it's pretty tough to even see what's going on half the time.

I'm only level 4 though so I'll put in a bit more time before a final verdict.

Big mistake right there. Do yourself a favor and try the Charr storyline. Characters are still one-dimensional, but overall it's miles better than the human story and areas. If you still don't like it, well, tough luck. That said, I made an Azura Engineer with a big ass monocle and I'm loving it. Dem's so adorable. ^_^

They derped down exploration this time around by putting all the vistas on the map. And camera, while improved, still sucks major balls. I'm giving up hope that it will ever get fixed.

I guess humans are purposefully generic for the types of people that like generic types. You know what I mean?

I appreciate Tycn's impressions. I never got hardcore into GW1 so it's good reading. I'd like to see what he says after Sunday. From my entire understanding, I can understand if one thinks GW2 structured PVP is worse than GW1 structured PVP. Sadly I was not into GW1 during that time.

Bah, big mistake because ANet fucked up storylines for THE race and I just happened to witness its horror of terrible writing in full spectrum, going from one blank npc to another, trying to make me care about some shmuck I haven't met before and who's literally a damsel in distress, except he ain't no damsel? If they can't be arsed to write a proper storyline for the only playable race from GW1 I doubt they can do much else.

Combat, it just doesn't have any weight to it, partially because they fucking removed collisions. Body blocking is no longer a viable tactic. In GW1 when you smacked a fucker down with a hammer you could feel the POW as he went down to the floor. Now, you run around your enemies and watch numbers float.

They somehow managed to fuck up the camera as someone pointed out, which is an achievement, because GW1 had perfectly fine working camera. Also, the UI, almost fully customizable in GW1, now welded shut, because fuck you.

I got into a big fight against some shadow behemoth on the swamps with other people. There was no strategy, no tactics involved at all. People were just jumping around spamming their skills that weren't on cooldown. As was I, because it seemed to be the best way of taking it down.
