Having a party with 18/75+/18/18 martials is overpowered whatever you're doing with them. Heck a party of wizards with that stat line do decent damage with slings

Ranged is overpowered imba cheese in all infinity engine games
ftfy

Ranged weapons kind of suck in IWD as everyone and their cousin is resistant to piercing damage or needs magic weapons to hit. Idk if this is rectified later on, I've never played past Severed Hand. But so far ranged weapons are only useful for interrupting spellcasters. Exceptional strength Fighters in melee seem much more useful.

New party:

Human Paladin
Half Elf Ranger/Cleric
Half Elf Fighter/Druid
Elf Fighter/Mage/Thief
Gnome Cleric/Illusionist
Half Elf Bard

I'm off to Dragon's Eye again. Compared to the last party, it's obvious how much better you fare with single class characters in the beginning. I guess this is balance is shifted later on. One thing that sucks is that multiclass Clerics can't turn undead for shit. Do monsters retain their turning requirements in HoW or are those beefed up? If the latter, I'm going to use a Fighter(1)/Cleric on my next run.

Random drops are a terrible idea for this kind of game. I've been pretty gimped by drops in this run, no good spells or items I could use. Blunt weapons (esp. maces) seem to rule everything so far.

Ranged is crazy good in IWD and early on you get a bow as a guaranteed drop that is basically one of the best weapons in the game.

If you're annoyed by random drops (I won't blame or judge you) then install Tweaks - it has an elegant no-nonsense solution to that.

This. I always use it now, both options it offers are nice. Just make sure to use a fix for the "merchant" option or he will disappear from Kuldahar when it is attacked by orogs later on.

Are the villagers on the upper floor of Dragon's Eye supposed to leave after you've killed the lizardmen? They never do that for me. At least this time I actually got the experience for freeing them, last time that dialogue didn't trigger.
