Well for one thing he was literally forced on the MC as some sort of bond villain that always gets away for no reason. Kai Leng shows perfectly what ME3 over any other part of the trilogy, and the whole trilogy stank of that, did worst. Confusing videogames with movies. The stupid plot of ME3 could have worked decently in a movie, but I don't see how you can screw a player so close to the ending and make it don't feel cheap and gamey, yes gamey from a developer no small feat ... worst it break inmersion utterly, you are no longer playing Shepard, you are watching him/her.

OMG man I'm so sorry please don't CRY, in any case as bad as kai leng was the illusive man was much much worse, he was like a mustache twirling villain, also I greatly enjoyed how to make him more edgy and evil they made him a smoker. That's some intense dark storyline shit

Not to mention the sheer tonal shift from ME1 (essentially a Biowarian Star Trek with more shoot shoots and less socialist utopia overtones) to ME2 (Grimdark McCorridorshooter with laughable attempts at moral ambiguity and edgyness, while at the same time further embracing what would later become, god fucking help me, the staple of most Bioware games; the romances) is so jarring it left my fucking head spinning. I mean sure, the series was naturally gonna take a more dark direction with the inevitable invasion of the reapers, but this feels like I'm jumping from the kiddy pool straight into the deep end.

I loved how it was marketed as "dark" when it's anything but. Shepard gets killed and revived within the first five minutes to work for some goofball "secret" organization that slaps it's logo all over the place in a brightly lit space yacht, fights color coded sesame street mercs and mindless bug drones that are more black and white than Saren and the Geth, has squadmates dressing up like comic book superheroes, goes around solving said squadmates inane daddy issues, gets Zaeed loyalty after ruining 20 years of his life and to top it off does a "suicide" mission without losing anyone.

What a freaking joke.

At least it's fun.

Play only ME2, pretend its a closed storyline with lots of plot holes and no sequel or prequel. It is a game version of cheesy B SF movie that doesnt take itself seriously. A story of a hero that gets killed, resurrected and forced to join forces with old nemesis to fight a powerful unknown force that only he can stop and to do that he needs to hire the best of the best or mercenaries, soldiers and crooks in the universe. Our hero spends the game saying and doing badass things, bangs hot chicks, goes on a suicide mission against all odds and wins the day the day without breaking a sweat.
