The first couple days the game had a lot of server issues (what MMORPG doesn't?) and the game got review bombed hard. Notice most negative reviewers only played for a few minutes before giving up.

Servers are working good now.

The game itself is good and I am having a lot of fun. It brings back a lot of old-school sandbox concepts with every side activity imaginable. The world is absolutely massive and seamless, something over 2000 sq kilometers complete with various biomes, day night cycles, and changing seasons which affect skills. Game has arena PVP as well as open PVP outside of safe zones like cities and you can even play as a merchant carrying goods in a caravan between cities using mounts like camels and elephants, or various ships over the sea. On the flipside you can play as a brigand or pirate and attack these caravans for their merchandise. Definite Vanguard Saga of Heroes vibe to it.

Combat is decent and action-oriented. One oddity is that monsters are not free-roaming on the map, but consolidated in specific areas. At first this bugged me, but after doing some PVP I think it was a good idea because it prevents PVP battles from getting ruined from getting aggroed by monsters. I get the feeling that the designers wanted this game to have a strong PVP element not unlike Darkfall Online.

You can rent housing, or farms to use as a base of operations and production, or you can go out and find your own plot of land and build your own house, farmstead, or clan hall...all of which can be visited or even raided by other players. You can produce your own product then sell them via the same caravan system described above.

Dungeons are big and have an RNG layout I believe. All the rest of the standard MMORPG trappings are here including raids and big boss fights. Monster behavior and aggro is super janky right now. I have a feeling this will improve over time.

All of these things WORK currently, although they need some more polish and fleshing out. Everything does have that Euro-jank feel to it, which can be a negative or positive depending how you look at it.

Overall I'm impressed by the game considering the massive amount of features actually working. Best part, it's only a flat cost of $19.99 with no subscription fee. I think it's definitely worth it and it doesn't deserve all the hate it has gotten thus far.

This bounced back from negative to mixed on steam. Might be a decent game actually. I haven't played it though.

It's good. I'm still playing it. I just bought my first ship last night and did a shipping voyage across the map. Took me about 45 minutes of relaxing sailing and I made about 600k. Oceans are pretty decent too. Interesting things to find at sea, including sea monsters and treasure. New World didn't even have swimming when it came out, by the way.

It's the closest thing I've seen to a multiplayer Daggerfall.

People need to chill the fuck out over server issues on launch day/launch week. Even NCSoft has issues launching their MMOs and they've been doing it for >20 years. It's unfortunate that a single bad day could ruin a game's reputation forever. Recent reviews only go so far assuming
there's anyone still around.

Developers look like the internet cafe going gypsies who were addicted to SilkRoad and Knight Online back in the day
