So, it's been a great year, mostly, one game was released in July this year and no other game meets the quality requirements to be pit against it, so, here's the vote for the year 2021.

Knights of the Chalice 2

  • 10 playable races
  • 36 playable subraces
  • 22 classes
  • A shitload of spells
  • A lot of feats you've never heard of
  • A new crafting system requiring crystals (not just gold and xp like in KotC)
  • Handcrafted encounters
  • Different skills for each class
  • Giant and dangerous enemy bosses (Dragons, Giants, Slimes, Dragons, Lichs, Hydras, Mage-Giant-Spiders, Djinns, Bone-Dragons, ...)
  • One goal, get out of the dungeon you're trapped in and get your revenge!
  • It's hard, probably too hard for you
  • Luckily, there's now difficulty options and settings, you lucky you!

Nobody likes pogs anymore. Do you all like old heroquest and Talisman board games?

All these pogs and no one plays hmmphh.

Wasn't Geneforge Mutagen release in 2021?
It was released in 2001. Not all of us fall for Jeff's bullshit.

I've bought it but not not played it yet, mostly on the recommendations of fellow Dexers stating it's one of the few remakes worth getting.

We'll see I guess.

It's basically a slightly enhanced version of the original. It has some new content which is actually surprisingly decent considering Jeff's laziness, but it's essentially the same game.

The best part about it is that it isn't a bitch to get running well on modern systems. That said, I had pretty good results getting Geneforge 1-4 running without random slowdowns with DGVoodoo.

Yeah I know dude.

I'm all for giving the game's praise though if they're good though. In fact I think the best way to encourage more devs to make games like these classics is to highlight the good remakes. Hence the suggestion in the first place.

Sad what's happening to the Codex when turn-based D&D with dozens of races, classes, feats, spells, and community modules isn't GotY by default. I guess it just doesn't have enough trannies in it.

This place started out as C&C Central, combat fans were always a vocal minority.

First time I have heard of this game but it looks good, I'll be doing some research on it and then I can comment further but your bullet points resonate with me on many RPG levels around what I expect and enjoy
