/reset is pretty much the de facto fast travel of the game. I remember a few quests where you're required to kill yourself so you can interact with ghosts.

I don't play now, but I made a rifle-chaos build back than, and it was terrible for soloing. :D But I'm not a big MMO player, so making good builds has always been my weakness.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Guise anyone still playing this?

I spent a weekend with this game when it was still in open beta and ever since I wanted to jump in the fully commited. Because as much as I hate MMOs I was completely transfixed by this mama. Such a great mood, fantastic writing, interesting world. I was never ok with the subscription but I get this constant tingling in my left nut since it went free and it means I'm tempted.

But I still remember from my beta experience - and I confirmed it here - that soloing is not something you wanna do beyond the tutorial village. After happy frolicking in the zombie town i hit brick wall in the dungeons. My question is, is there still any kind of healthy community in this game? Am I gonna find a buddy even now, when I jump in all green and virginy? Or are all the players hardcore level 6345 whizened old geezers and no fresh blood?

I'm asking because it's on sale every few hours (so it seems) and I'm really tempted to pick it up.

Man, I tried to play it again 3 months back and the starting area was kinda empty, the game is slowly dying. If you really want to play it, it is a good idea to enter now, I have no idea how long it will last. The Steam version has all the DLC. Be warned that it may be problematic to find low level people to play with. If I wasn't already burn out of the thing, I could had played with you. Do not try to play this thing alone or you are going to be insane by the second area, the boredom will kill you fast. It is kind of sad as if this game was single player, it would be a storyfag classic.

I was interested in the story, but it wasn't worth the almost maliciously tedious gameplay. A quick googling reveals several LPs; any opinions on which to watch?

Let them kickstart a game: Secret World: Single-player Adventure Game. Reuse all the writing setting and concepts, add minimum puzzles (today mainstream AVG standard anyway).

It's essential to find someone to complete quests with(Otherwise you'll get bored by mobs) and it's easy to find someone to complete the quests with in the lower level areas(Half of the game) but it's hard to find anyone for quests in ending zones. Thing is they are bad compared to the first areas and you would probably only want to complete the investigation missions from those areas.

Community seemed relaxed to me but i didn't played any other MMORPGS so i can't compare them with anyone else.

Played this game because it looks a bit like COH, gameplay-wise and the "secret societies battle for dominance" thing is cool. Made a Dragon character.

I now fear blowjobs.

I would like to make a separate topic for this game on cRPG. This game probably has better writing than most games in the RPG genre. Were it a single player game with less focus on trash combat, this would have been one of my all time favorites. YES. WITH THE TARDED ACTION COMBAT.

I hate the keyboard based MMo combat. It definitely pulls the game down. A smarter mouse based system would definitely help it.
My thoughts exactly. As much as a fan I was of the game when it came out, I got tired of the trash combat after a few weeks. My heart ached when I decided the put the game down, but I couldn't bear that I constantly had to fight wave after waves of mobs. The story, the atmosphere, the writing is so good, but why do I have to grind through a million zombies or moth monsters on every level?

This is one of the most annoying games I ever played. It is like a hot girl that keeps nagging you all the time. You stand there with the hard on but never can be satisfied.

Well, I'm still playing it - every now and then there are events and new main plot missions, so despite playing for almost a year I still find some new stuff to do.

Happening right now:

- streched event with Filth invading Agartha

- seasonal Samhain quests (last years' + new ones with super awesome horror stories)

- next week a new add-on (Issue 8) should go live

- next big update is being finished (Issue 9) that will add a new playfield and a new chapter to the main story

The last 2 events were all player-coordinated and it went really smooth. We have separate channels for every event, people post scripts with useful info and are generally very helpful and polite. Playerbase seems much older than average, most people I know that are playing this are 30+, maybe this is the reason.

Why soloing is bad? I soloed almost all quests (though it was quite challenging) and actually this game feels like a weird-yet-awesome action-adventure. I'm playing it casually (every 1-2 days I do some group stuff with my cabal), but the constant flow of new stuff and the atmosphere keeps me hooked up. This game is stroking my brain-boner.

Is this went f2p already?
It went b2p when the world ended - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfEwp5wRyhQ

For the price of the game you get all PvP content, both raids, all dungeons + missions from first 4 updates (the rest you may want to buy later on).

In-game store has mostly clothes, pets and xp boosts - nothing you need ever. For mere 5-15 euro you can enter one of the best worlds created in gaming (IMNHO).

My ID? It's just nonsense. And yes, swords are good for soloing. Also rifles.

That was the combination that best worked for me Blades + Chaos to get that + 30% damage passive + rifle for a little damage before comming close and healing. Healing from rifles is actually better for soloing, those small life stealing percentages can look bad but when you are penetrating like crazy, the healing is quite decent without lots and lots of healing items.

While the combat isn't something wonderful, what really killed me was that on contrary to others MMOs, Secret World relies heavily on it's storyline and it isn't something more abstract like WoW. When you fight a demon that have 5000 HP and the fight takes 1 min, you manage to close the demon portal to just 1 min later, it respawns or the monsters respawn in front of you, those are problems that are easier to ignore into other MMOs but are more noticeable on a story heavy MMO, because the world is built with more care, the MMOs inconsistencies become annoying because they break your IMMERRSIUM and erase any notion of you making any difference in the world. When you are with other people, you don't need to carefully avoid fighting more than one Draug at the same time, their HP get down faster and you aren't going to fight all the Draug that respawned while you spent 1 min fighting this tough Draug.

I soloed with blade/ar - blade gives evade bubble and good aoe, while ar provides good heals while still dealing damage. I slowly leeched through many hard encounters, when my gear and understanding of mechanics were still weak.

Now, with better gear and knowledge, I'm doing solo stuff with chaos/blade - chaos provides fast hits to proc From the Abyss, blade gives impairs/penetration/aoe and I have several heals proccing from attacks, so I never have to resort to pure healing skills.

To fully enjoy the game you have to embrace the usual MMO design flaws - then you will see TSW in all its contemporary, eclectic, clever, lovecraftian glory.

Never had issues with immershun - the main theme turns something immutable in me everytime I log in. The TSW experience goes beyond the game - there is hidden stuff in the internets, NPCs are tweeting, people are discussing events and sometimes seemingly insignificant details...

It's a rare case, where most people you meet are actually into the plot and have their views on it and you all wait to see how new events unfold.

I hate the mission pack system. It was really dick move from them to sell the conclusion of area stories as purchasable mission packs but at least it seems they are doing something that worth the money at last.

I solo pretty effectively with a sword/pistol build. I haven't played it since June, though. Logged in one time after that, but I couldn't muster the courage to face the tedious combat again so I quit 5 minutes later.

It has the potential to be an amazing game if the combat is revamped.

That's a dick move? Last big MMO (Neverwinter) forced you to pay for respecs! Here you have full functionality for free - the only things I ever bought from the store where clothes. New issues come out like every 2-3 months, so it's only 3-5 euro/month and you will only want to buy it if you're really into the main story (there are some other profits, but it's not something you can't get otherwise).

Don't count on that. Why the combat is tedious? Is it because the mobs are quite tough? I actually avoid combat most of the time - the quest rarely require to kill someone and the mobs can fuck you up anywhere if you're not cautious.

Why the combat is tedious?
How is this not evident? The combat is tedious because every fucking fight is the same. You target the enemy, then go through your standard rotation until it's dead. Then you do the same for the next enemy, and the one after that, ad nauseum. It isn't fun, and there are better ways I could be spending my time.

^^ Pretty much that. It's standard MMO fare and not even good as far as MMO combat goes.
