This thread makes me feel a little better towards women, since being a compulsive shopper who buys something because the word "sale" is involved is apparently not solely a feminine quality. Unless...

No, no, it's only a feminine quality if you buy things you don't NEED, and never USE. Like if you bring home an arm-full of shoes even though your closet is filled with... shoes you... still haven't worn yet...

*glances at his backlog of unplayed games*
What. If anything it's a Chinese male quality. I do it a lot and my Dad does it a lot. Though usually we actually compare specific prices and not just jump at the word sale.

but how are the sam&max episodes?

I personally enjoyed them, as they pretty much stay true to the original. They are kind of..... dumbed down 3d popamole now but still enjoyable (some of the puzzles are refreshing and new). I think most of us on the Adventure Forums here generally liked them overall. They are no where near as fucking awesome as The Longest Journey, but still fun.

And I think they are all on sale now, so definitely worth the price.

Time Gentlemen, Please! is pretty good so far. And it's only $2.50

Wonder if East India Company is any good. I heard it was shit, but no one ever told me why. Does the Codex have anything to say about it?

Also for god's sake if anyone here likes blowing things up and generally being an idiot, buy Red Faction Guerrilla for $5. Also comes with the "Demons of the Badlands" mini-expansion DLC they sell for $10 on the consoles. They did fix the speed bug and since they did the game is a lot of fun.
Straightforward action game but being able to destroy every building in the game is fun, and the price is sure as hell right.

Just to add some thoughts on RF: Guerrilla, it plays almost exactly like a Grand Theft Auto clone except you sacrifice mission variety for the whole realistic destruction thing -- which admittedly is good for mindless fun.

Just like at the year end sale I bought way too much of this shit, but still I didn't pay over $50 so, meh. I bought Jericho for the lulz of playing it and lulz of paying 1.98 for it.

It was a decent game, the first half played out well, had a good mix of killer/cop interaction. Then at the halfway mark, something just happened. The developers may have gotten some fucked peyote, or maybe they just wrote in a bit too much, after having a few too many shrooms, but either way, something foul was afoot at that studio.

Hmm now I'm actually contemplating King's Bounty: The Legend since I doubt it will go much lower than $3.25ish. I know a lot of people were talking about Armored Princess earlier but a lot of what I've read suggests The Legend is better and has more game play.

King's Bounty - The Legend is great. It's well worth <$5. Anything higher than that and I'd recommend you buy the (drm-free with official patch) retail box off Amazon; it's like $8 on sale most of the time.

Good enough, grabbed it. All told I got that, Winterbottom, Avencast, Borderlands Knoxx DLC, Red Faction, and Thief for a whopping $20 and some change.

So is Borderlands any good, or is it a decline popamole without any redeeming features?

If you have something to say then say it, else gtfo to 4chan.

It's a first person shooter where you upgrade your character through a bunch of varied Diablo 2 style gear. As in the same vein as Stalker. They're not exactly the same but it's the same sort of mechanics.

Disclaimer: My impressions are only for the base game, without any expansions or DLC, so there's a chance that they improved on some of the bad stuff and you would be wise to see if they did.

It's not shit, just simplistic. The trading system is pretty straighforward, you buy stuff from ports and return them to your capital for profit. Some ports have better prices than others and there is a lot of competition between nations as the years go by. It's quite addictive for a while and the real-time naval battles are interesting, plus you get to develop your ships' captains and give them perks with each level up.

Now for the bad stuff: Your objectives stay the same throughout the campaign (ship x amount of y product> ship 10x amount of y,z products and so on, maybe capture a specific port once in a while). The beginning of the game is very slow and boring, plus the naval battles don't have a time acceleration feature. Also, once you've played the campaign once, there's zero reason to play it again, as all the nations are the same, they have access to the same ships and there's really no other difference between them except distance from the colonies.

Mentioned it earlier in the thread but Borderlands is basically an FPS version of Torchlight with less armor slots (other than weapons you only have a shield mod, class mod, and grenade mod and talent tree customization (the trees are pretty meaningless, really) but more story and diversity in terms of quests and scenery. It's too bad because had they spent more time developing those two areas (gear and talents), populated the world with a few more meaningful npcs, and maybe made co-op a bit more interesting they'd have turned out a great game. As it is, it's just 'okay.' Worth $10 and might as well grab the Knoxx DLC while you're at it for $3 as it adds more content and a higher level cap. The others are pretty crap. I suppose it's a bit like a watered down version of Hellgate London.

That's nothing at all like Stalker. Stalker is semi-realistic, Borderlands isn't. Borderlands has a bunch of varied Diablo 2 style gear, Stalker doesn't. The only similarities the mechanics share are shooting mans, relatively open worlds, and (Sort of) questing.

I don't care, they're the same genre of game. FPS based on collecting gun loot. That's all I was saying, I'm not interested in if you think they have similar atmosphere or realism, that's not what I was talking about. It's an FPS where you do quests and get guns that have stats. Stalker is the closest sort of game to it, besides maybe Fallout 3, and Fallout 3 is very different due to exploration and VATS and whatnot.

edit- I haven't played Hellgate London and if I had I suspect I would be comparing it to that instead

Don't use 4chan pics.

Thanks, might as well grab it. I'm missing a total no-brainer popamole and JC2 seems to be a bit too expensive for the length/price ratio at the moment.

Also, yay, BG&E from Steam actually *works*, unlike my other two legal copies and six torrented ISOs. Stupid DRM crap.

Speaking of JC2 - is it any good? I don't think 25€ is the right price for it so might wait for end-year or find it on Amazon or something, but how does it play? Should I bother getting it for pure entertainment?

I actually haven't played Hellgate London, either, but wish I had. There's a playthroughp on you tube (the guy is a bit annoying) if you're bored enough to watch it. Looked fairly solid but it failed miserably. Apparently, though, it is still popular in Asia (the U.S. servers closed long ago) and might be making a comeback albeit under the guise of another, Asian, developer/publisher so who knows if it will stay true to its roots.

You should enjoy it. I got about 80+ hours out of the base game but that's with two play throughs (after you finish once you continue at the same level and the enemies/bosses level up with you as does the loot). Note that it does suffer from severe obvious-console-port syndrome but that's mostly just the menus. Haven't played JC2 as I generally avoid 'realistic' shooters if that makes sense.

I played the demo and it was fairly bad - though of course it wasn't patched at that point or anything. A pity really as the idea was in general fairly interesting.

Went ahead and bought Borderlands though. Thanks!
