The STEAM Sales and Releases Thread

Damn. Sounds like the daily deals for the Paradox sale are gonna be King Arthur, Magicka, Mount and Blade, and finally Crusader Kings 2 (Judging by what they said in a video stream). Probably gonna have to hop on EU3 at only half-off.

Damn, I was hoping for some steeper markdowns on other titles. Guess I'll just hold off on some of them til the summer sale of doom.

I've been curious about King Arthur. 12.5EuroJewgold for the entire series + DLC is too tempting to pass up.

How is Warlock now? I heard it was buggy on release, but have they fixed it at all since then? I want to buy it when it's -75% off.
Keeping in mind Quartertothree is a pretty terrible place, they seem to like it.

It is. It's basically simplified versions of Panzer General and Master of Magic mixed together, and given some of the fastest turn resolution magic and one of the very best AIs in TBS-dom.

Warlock is exactly the kind of throwback guys like me have been begging for for more than a decade.

Still pretty goddamn tempted to do something rash and buy it at $10. Did like the demo, and they're singing a seductive song for the full version. In fact I'm kinda more interested in Warlock than I am in the Civ5 expansion.

It's still going to be another few months before Warlock reaches it's full potential. That and they're going to milk it with DLC. I'd hold off until at least 75% off.

I liked the original well enough to play the campaign one and a half times. My first start was as Christian, but that is a bit difficult as a start. Pagan is easier, and that's what I finished. The victory conditions are weird, as you have to hold certain positions on the map to gain a morale advantage. I never played any of the DLC, even though I have it. The text adventures are somewhat cool, though, even if rather simplistic. I am sure that I haven't found out everything you can do with your army leaders.

Nevertheless, I'm somewhat curious about Arthur II. The new flying units and kill moves look stupid, though, so I'm on the fence, even at that price.

Just bought King Arthur II, even though I haven't finished the first one. Fucking Steam, man.

Hrrmn, that Majesty HD is half off, but looking at this screenshot
http://cdn.steampowered.com/v/gfx/a...0270bd2363b0ed8514.1920x1080.jpg?t=1332176441

the interface is MINISCULE and now the sprites are a zoomed out mess

also posting this for mhc because Gaben makes a cameo in the intro pitch video

The HD update of Majesty 1 wasn't flawless. As you mentioned, they could have adjusted the scale of the UI. If you're interested in the Majesty stuff I'd just wait it out another couple of weeks. Sale is probably going to start the week of the 25th.

I saw and got an erection. :bounce:

Majesty HD update is still preferable to playing regular Majesty 1, namely because it also fixes all issues Majesty had with modern machines such as super fast scrolling. You can also play it at lower resolutions if you want. ALSO worth mentioning the game is zoomed out in that picture. Here's a screenshot I took of the game at default zoom at 1920X1080.
Interface is still small, but eh.

And it's your duty to buy it because Majesty 1 is just that good. :rpgcodex:

I am going to purchase it, but I've played it before and I think there's a good chance of it dropping below 50 during the imminent summer sale.

In light of this consideration I have purchased dungeons of dredmor complete instead for some popamole newshit roguelike action at 2.25 amerikans

if I end up hating it I will just blame Metro for his avatar ambassadorship

can't be worse than D3

It's a simplified rogue-like -- probably easier than most of the free ones out there. I just finished a recent playthrough since they released the free expansion using two of the new skills (Geomancy and Clockwork Knight) and they're pretty overpowered in the right build. Having played the game for shitloads of hours now there's pretty much no way I can die unless I just play recklessly/not pay attention which isn't likely in a turn based game. It could benefit from a harder difficulty level.

For a challenge I would just go with random skills build -- at the very least it'll help you learn about them and which go better with others. But, yeah, for $2.25 it's a solid purchase. I would also use the 'No Time to Grind' option which has smaller levels but increases mob experience to compensate. Still took me like 8+ hours to clear to Dredmor (floor 15) so I can't imagine how long it would take on normal.

Crusader Kings Complete -75%, 2,49€.
Is it woth it?

Also, CK2 Collection 12,49€.

I'd say Ck1 for 2,5 is very much worth it, unless you already have the second or plan on playing it since it's essentially the same game but improved. There are of course some things that are changed for the worse depending on your point of view, but you can find mods for
most things or even easily change it your self. Ck2 is shaping up to be my favorite Paradox game to date, if you are familiar with Eu3 you will easily get into it.

I bought CK1 complete even though I own CK2 because I am a GOD DAMN IDIOT AND IT WAS SO CHEAP.

Also bought all the CK2 DLC so I finally have mongol faces for when the machete wielding rape gang shows up!
And pestering Metro so I can pick up EU3 Chronicles too! STRATARGAY

Hoping I'll be able to learn EU3 a bit quicker than I did CK2. Since CK2 was my first Paradox grand strategy game I'm hoping getting a feel of the interface and such will help learn EU3 faster.

Thanks. I plan on getting most of Paradox titles this summer. Where should I start? EU? Victoria...?

...I'm actually remarkably happy with that purchase. I remember trying the demo back in the day and not caring about it at all, but after learning the basic mechanics, it turns out it's the perfect game for short breaks. It definitely takes some getting used to, though, as I'm now having less trouble on the advanced missions than I originally did with the tutorial (It didn't help that I didn't read any of the manual until after I figured out most of the mechanics through trial and error).

I started with EU III in terms of Paradox strategy and to this date have played the game the most. As a casual player of their games, I think it has some nice balance between management simulation and military strategy, whereas Victoria delves much deeper into economy aspect and can seem a handful. I am tempted to get some of the sprite packs in fact...

As quaint as Majesty 1 is I just found it getting too chaotic. Although, I guess it lives up to it's billing as a 'simulator' whereas Majesty 2 is more of an 'RTS' (without unit control). Response to reward flags is borderline nonexistant so 90% of the time you just sit back and watch and hope your heroes attack/defend in the right places.

As much as I would have agreed with you after my first night of playing, I'm getting used to the system now and have found that different units behave differently in regards to reward flags. Rogues, for instance, will swarm even a lowly 1-200gold flag, and if the bounty is high enough on a building they won't even defend themselves. Warriors, though, tend not to respond nearly as well, and I've yet to figure out how to execute a more controlled strategy.

I'm also really starting to fall in love with the Dwarves for the non-human support choice. The range support from the main settlement, ballista towers, and additional building capacity are just too useful to pass up.

What's amusing, though, is in one of the advanced missions (The one with four trade routes you need to defend), you can entice the bandits to attack their own hideout with a measly 200gold bounty, heh.
