Because the episodes were a mistake and not that memorable. This is a studio that can wait it out and release something groundbreaking, it doesn't even make financial sense for them to make a SP game. That was one thing I loved in the golden era of gaming, every studio had their own internal engines and each game showcased the advanced.

You guys asking for slop same copy paste engine releases are why ALL longstanding IP sucks these days, lotr, cod, star wars, Indiana Jones, ghost busters, startrek, ass creed, cod, Jurassic park etc.

It's okay to leave a good thing well alone until there's something really worth putting out there.. or even just don't put anything out there again if it's dog shit.

It's Witchers turn now too.

Im sure Artifact and Deadlock are utterly groundbreaking to you seeing as how you are a AAA refugee trying to fit in

Again I don't see how asking them to finish the story is asking for slop releases and the decline of long standing IPs. Every single one of the movies and games you mention had their stories have a beginning and an end. I think at least. I haven't played a single COD or Asscreed game in my life.
HL2 didn't. You can say that the episodes weren't that memorable but when people think of HL3 nowadays they think of the stuff set up by the episodes rather than HL2 itself. They certainly don't think of the dumb tech demos that were the barrel puzzles.

At any rate I really question Valve is even able to put something as revolutionary as you or they would like for the industry nowadays -- Alyx only came to be because of VR after all. What'd be next for a mainline entry? Completely destructable enviroments, that ice gun? It's a fool's dream to chase after HL1's legacy like that again.
As for the story... I know they were never the real focus of these games but I just straight up don't think they can do something like the HL setting again. I think the last real thing they've produced that took itself as seriously as HL universewise (and even then you could see the characters becoming joke dispensers a bit) was L4D. They feel the need to cram jokes into every single thing even if it isn't funny or if it doesn't really fit. Portal 2 and it's consecuences...

Valve have already said they planned to always cliffhanger HL and never "finish" the story btw.

They are a company that pushes innovation . They just successfully mass sold Linux gaming to winbro gamers with steam deck and are likely about to launch an OS, and your right 18 month knocked out.VR hardware and arguably the best game for the platform.

I don't want a series of same same games in the same engine from Valve, the episodes were kind of disappointing for that reason. If you didn't grow up with 90s gaming I get it, every single game is unreal engine so you just more and more of the same.

Bots are leveling up, in the past ignoring 'private' accounts or accounts with level below 10 was enough, but it seems these retards leveled up their game with their garbage :negative:

Konjad So how does this work, do they need to add you to send you a message? I never got bot messages on Steam.
Yeah, they add you first then send spam. It can be bots, it can be retarded kids too: There was recently some account that got famous because it sent thousands of trade offers to people over a period of a few months, where he offered some in-game banana item worth 0.03 cents or so, and for exchange he always wanted everything you had in your inventory.

Standalone

By garry

Our intention is to let people create games with s&box and export them as standalone games, which can then be distributed on Steam etc.
For this to be possible we need Valve's permission - since it's built on their engine. This means they need to update the license agreement we have with them. They've done that, and are in the final stages of checking it over. I'm hopeful that we'll have it this month.
Once that's signed we'll need to work with our own lawyers to make our license. This should be simple, as it will be giving you permission to do whatever you want as long as you don't blame us for anything that goes wrong.

Its happening. Facepunch "forced" Valve's hand: they will make source 2 available to everyone to make games and publish them as standlone games.
Source 2 is finally going public through SBox ("spiritual successor" of GMOD).

Advertising on Steam

Steam does not contain any paid advertising, nor are advertising models supported in games distributed on Steam. There are varying interpretations for what constitutes ‘advertising’ in a game, so the examples below are meant to help guide developers as to what is and is not supported on Steam.

Supported

  • Product Placement

Games may contain real brands, products, personalities, etc as part of gameplay, provided such portrayals are not disruptive and are appropriate within the context of the game. For example, a racing game might feature real life sponsor logos on its race cars, or a skateboard game might include characters wearing real-world brands. Note that all developers must obtain the relevant permission and/or licenses for any copyrighted content contained in their games.
  • Cross Promotions

Developers can run many different kinds of cross-promotional activities on Steam, such as bundles, sale events, and more. Promotions may involve other Steam products, or products/brands outside of Steam. These types of promotions are encouraged and many customers find value in them. However, under no circumstances is it okay to charge other developers to participate in a bundle or to sell access to a sale page or other page on Steam.
  • Paid Advertising Outside Steam

Developers may want to run paid advertising campaigns to drive traffic to their Steam product pages. We recommend taking advantage of Store Widgets and UTM Analytics to help enhance and measure the effectiveness of any off-Steam campaigns.

Not Supported

  • Developers should not utilize paid advertising as a business model in their game, such as requiring players to watch or otherwise engage with advertising in order to play, or gating gameplay behind advertising. If your game's business model relies on advertising on other platforms, you will need to remove those elements before shipping on Steam. Some options you could consider include switching to a single purchase "paid app," or making your game free to play with optional upgrades sold via Microtransactions or Downloadable Content (DLC).
  • Developers should not use advertising as a way to provide value to players, such as giving players a reward for watching or engaging with advertising in their game.
  • Developers should not charge other developers for access to Steam features. These include sale pages, bundles, store pages, franchise pages, etc.

TF2 source code now available. No need to rely on the leaked source code from years ago.

But thats not all, they also updated lots of old source games too.

HL Deathmatch Source
HL2 Deathmatch

Really random behavior from valve.

The TF2 SDK has arrived!

February 18, 2025 - TF2 Team

The TF2 SDK has arrived!

Mod makers, rejoice! We've just released a massive update to the Source SDK, adding all the Team Fortress 2 client and server game code. This update will allow content creators to build completely new games based on TF2. We're also doing a big update to all our multiplayer back-catalogue Source engine titles (TF2, DoD:S, HL2:DM, CS:S, and HLDM:S), adding 64-bit binary support, a scalable HUD/UI, prediction fixes, and a lot of other improvements!

Unlike the Steam Workshop or local content mods, this SDK gives mod makers the ability to change, extend or rewrite TF2, making anything from small tweaks to complete conversions possible.

The SDK is licensed to users on a non-commercial basis, meaning that any mod created using the SDK must be free, and any content in those mods must be free. TF2 mods may be published on the Steam Store, and after publication will appear as new games in the Steam game list.

Players have a lot of investment in their TF2 inventories, and Steam Workshop contributors have created of a lot of that content. The majority of items in the game now are thanks to the hard work of the TF2 community. To respect that, we're asking TF2 mod makers continue to respect that connection, and to not make mods that have the purpose of trying to profit off Workshop contributors' efforts. We're hoping that many mods will continue to allow players access their TF2 inventory, if this makes sense for the mod.
