even though it presented the second-largest cathedral Thief-players had ever seen!
I have to ask: what is the largest cathedral? Maybe the one in Keeper of the Prophecies?

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
(I had to dig this thread up from Page 7?!?)

Anyway, the results of the Thief: Deadly Shadows 20th Anniversary Contest are finally in.

Nicked wins the competition with "A Shadow on the Water", which is a brilliant Thief 2-mission trying to be a Thief 3-one. "Mysteries of Tolham" comes in second, "Wolfenstein" third and "One Man's Trash" as the last entry.

Tolham is obviously the best FM out of the four of them, but this competition had a Thief 3-theme to it, and on that front Tolham loses. That's fair, as it only proves once again that Nicked is the best DromEd'er currently at work. Versatile, creative, unafraid.

But "Mysteries of Tolham" has accomplished something I never thought possible: It drained me. I don't feel like playing Thief. I've only played one other FM since Tolham, and that was months ago. I wonder how long it will last?

Strap Yourselves In Serpent in the Staglands Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
I'm actually mildly bemused that for a game about stealing stuff you guys don't have a competition about making maps by stealing other people's work. It's wrong, but also confusingly appropriate.

Been on a Dark Mod binge lately and aside from the odd dud mission, the missions are overall consistently good. The added mechanics and interactivity makes it hard to go back to the originals.

TDM FM Imperial Sword is nice city/mansion mission. It's on smaller scale but doesn't do anything particularly wrong. Also can't say it's particularly memorable. It's in comfort zone. 7,5/10.

T2 FM Nest of Vipers is another mages mission. Aside from very good architecture and sound design it shows very good and logical level design - especially towards string of main objectives which are quite close one to another minimizing therefore backtracking. Overall I like it very much. Along with Cardinals' Sins those are the best T2 missions of the year atm. 9/10.

"Nest of Vipers" by nicked

Duelin' wizards, you gotta love it. The Archmage and Vice-Chancellor of a reclusive order of mages are caught in some kind of argument, and the Vice-Chancellor has contacted the greatest Master Thief of them all... well, actually he contacted Halyard the cutpurse, who then realized he was in over his head and needed a professional, which is why Garrett is getting involved. Do the job, split the fee, what can go wrong?

Halyard has done the ground work and cased the joint... the joint in question being a veritable mountain fortress. A magical item needs destroying, and that can only be done with another magical item. Halyard's job is to secure the second item, as well as secure Garrett an entrance to the fortress. Garrett will then do the rounds, find the first item, do the deed, then collect the payment from a secret room before making an exit. Sound solid, no?

This is a Nicked-mission at its finest. The gameplay is finely balanced, not too easy, not purposefully made difficult, even though all the candles will have you cursing. An optional ghosting-objective is provided, though I quickly decided I wouldn't be having any of that. In a single sitting I managed to be only 400 loot short of the total, and found all five secrets. The clear winner here is the architecture though. Roman arches, a shoutout to a ceiling painter, a helical staircase, the largest telescope you've ever seen in a Thief-FM, and even some straight-up man-made horrors beyond our comprehension. The only downside to the entire FM is at the end, when it's time to make an exit. I secured the exit, I made sure it was clear. Nicked thinks that's not allowed, so a man-made horror is spawned at the bottleneck to the exit once you've completed all your objectives. Not cool, but not a big problem either.

Rating: 9/10. I agree with the Rookie

Played through Catacombs of Knoss https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151212

Shit was solid as FUCK! One thing I really dug besides for its architecture/atmosphere is how well the levels flowed between objectives and the (two) levels themselves were p. damn big and detailed but all the style matches the substance.
Only complaint was that it could be a bit too dark in some places so I ran past 1 or 2 objectives in the second level that were p. much otherwise in plain sight before turning the contrast up by quite a bit (and slapping myself on the forehead).

For those interested Klatremus did a supreme ghost run of Mysteries of Tolham. I have to say, the map feels incredibly claustrophobic like everything is heaped on top of everything else. But I guess that fits the cities aesthetics perfectly. Yet the casual lava river just flowing through the map is an odd choice.

Finished the contest.

Pinnacle: A Test of Talents – clearly the work of a newbie who didn’t meet the deadline. A small city block without guards or ordinary citizens. Completed in five minutes. 5/10.

The Wizard's Treasure – you need to infiltrate the wizard’s mountain stronghold and steal an artifact. The fortress itself makes a pleasant impression, but it’s small. For half an hour. 7/10.

The Imperial Sword – a small city district + a small mansion, where our hero must “borrow” an ancient sword. Overall, a solid mission for an hour and a half. 7,5/10.

Volta 3: Gemcutter – a worthy mission in itself. Our goal is to sneak onto a small ship turned into a casino and eavesdrop on an important conversation, while grabbing everything that’s lying around. Gorgeous looks and the ship is cool in concept and in execution, but by the context of the Volta series, the mission is clearly intermediate, it’s more of a setup for Volta 4. 8/10.

You Only Fly Thrice – one of the “unusual” missions. This is a mini-campaign, the events of which unfold on board the zeppelin Hindenburg oops, Gottfried. There are three missions each explore airship from different perspective: a thief must steal airship's cook book; a killer (being undercover) should kill pointed target; and saboteur (being undercover) should disable the airship itself. Elephant in the room here is that all three missions use the same layout (with minimal changes). Perhaps the best contest mission in my opinion. 8/10.

That FM is a machine as well.

For something put together in such short time it's quite good, but it also gave me huge "The Acid Trip"-vibes, where dodging precise patrols was the gimmick.

Nice atmosphere in the temple. I ended up only missing 100 gold and a secret.
