A new jam mission, by Skacky and Prinxellier

https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152800
Finished. Overall, good classic skacky mission: very vertical, gloomy. I quite like the twist near the end of main objective, and finding cerulean dagger (and aftermath of that) was fun. 8/10.
As for Misguided Souls, nicked's entry for jam - well, it was more original and difficulty went up higher than WoM. Also good. 8/10. Hope those are not the only one for this jam.

Checked out "Winds of Misfortune". Clearly skacky's work, but has that feeling of being rushed about it. Still very good, gets a thumbs-up from me.

Then I checked out "Cold Hands, Cold Heart". This is the smallest and easiest jam-FM so far, but it's not to be dismissed. Somehow the house really manages to convey that feeling of neglect that they were going after, and a good choice of atmospheric noises helps seal the deal. Worth a look.

I'm hoping we see more of these jams. :)

And all of this jam missions are made by the already established FM creators. Nicked, skacky (in collab with Squadafroin), Vegetables, Bikerdude. The same people from contest to contest.

I'm confused.

A new FM was released, "Mr. Shabby", which is a mansion-heist and a first-time release by the author.

I'm confused because it's like the FM was released 25 years ago instead of today, complete with disproportionate architecture, buttons floating in mid-air, forced key hunts and an overall feeling of jankiness.

I honestly don't mind as this is a nice walk down the early days of Thief Fan Missions... but I'm wondering if this is some elaborate insider joke.

Give it a go if you don't believe me.

I don't find it hard to believe that a current year novice FM author would make the same mistakes novice FM authors made 20 years ago.

I saved "Twilights over Driftstone" for until I had peace over the holidays.

I was just gonna give it a 30-minute look, and knowing it was a 'jam'-mission I figured that would be close to enough.

I completely missed the fact that this FM is made by Lord Taffer, the same guy who did "Mysteries of Tolham", which I ranted about a few pages back.

That's why I didn't go to bed until 4 AM, I completely and totally lost track of time.

The exteriors look normal and unsuspecting, but the interiors just scream "Tolham" at you, particularly the manor and the slums in the southwest.

They say that gamers never look up. You better learn quick then, because this FM almost mandates it.

Fortunately this is not as huge a slog as "Tolham", the internal clock has just passed two hours and I'm mostly done... only missing ~1000 loot and three of the 13 secrets.

Rating: 8.5/10. One of the better mansion heist missions out there.

Beltzer also released a new campaign. Heaven help us...

Some of the graphics inside the mechanist building are interesting and it's nice to hear SlyFoxx as Garrett again, but other than that, it's just the same old, same old...
I have read such shit many times now. Have you ever opened Dromed?
Have you released something?
I know that i have my own style. I do not make typical Thief Fm. I do the games in the way i would
have liked playing them. Sorry if i have "bad taste". I cannot make games in the way you like them
and not ever get a penny for it. If i am gonna do it for free, then i want it to be fun.
I have spent many many hours, weeks and month making this and other Fm.
And i don't even deserve constructive criticism from you and some other members here.
"it's just the same old, same old..." Really? Do you mean that i do same shit every time in my games,
or do you mean in general? Is it often that Garrett get tired of an rape/murderer and choose to find
him, and either kill him, or knock him out and bring him to the jail, then get a reward?
If you have built this city, what new brilliant ideas had you put in it? That no one has done before.
Its funny, some people automatically do exceptional Fm if you ask members here. It does not
matter how simple they are. I have one in mind that always get super credits, and nothing is bad, never.
He must be a god :)
But you guys are gonna get what you want. I never gonna open Dromed again. Its too bad, i really like
it, and many members at TTLG say that they like my games. But i am tired at this shit.

I did a forum search and I realize this has been talked about a lot in this thread, but I have to say that as a casual Thief fan I only recently got into The Black Parade and I'm finding it to be an outstanding piece of fan work that rivals the OG. While I don't care much for the story, the fluff scrolls, the voice actors, or the incredibly large maps, I'm finding the thieving and settings and environment storytelling remarkable for something made by a bunch of fans with a lot of time on their hands. 13 hours in and I believe only the final level left to play (all on Expert, of course), and I know I'm going to want more.

I rarely delve into Thief FM's and I bounce between Thief FM's and The Dark Mod a few times a year, but this is convincing me that there are more out there to find that scratch that itch that made Thief such a fun and rewarding game to play.

Yes, the Black Parade is built on 20 years of Thief fan mission goodness. There's a lot more of similar quality around. Perhaps not quite as large and ambitious (especially pre-2012, TBP's levels would be impossible for the engine to handle pre-newdark) but still of high quality.

I've been a little lax in my taffing duties, but have made up for it now, with two FMs now on the review block:

"Eye of the Sea" by 1600frogs

Garrett covets an artifact housed in an old temple on an island, that some nobleman built his mansion on top of. Throw in some pirates and mini-golf course, and Bob's yer uncle.

It doesn't do anything fancy or strive for anything interesting, but what it does it does well. Despite the author's explicit instructions that we should post our scores from the golf course, I skipped out on that feature entirely.

Rating: 7/10.

"A Very Thiefy Xmas" by Tannar and Pukey Brunster

It's the holidays and Garrett spends an evening with Basso and Jenivere, who are now running an inn. A bet is placed and Garrett loses, meaning he has to run the inn for a day. This translates to 'chores galore', so it's time for some low-key taffin'.

This one is a smorgasbord for the eyes - and a not-so-tasty feast for the ears, as all the different Christmas-tunes are a little too much. The attention to detail is incredible, but it's how the FM is sold that irks me the most. "This is not your normal FM", they said. For some reason this made me think of the 'beautiful scenery but zero gameplay' Christmas FMs of old, or yet another attempt to use the Dark Engine to make some other kind of game. But no, this is as basic FM taffin' as you can get. Primary emphasis is on exploration and searching, with minimal stealth elements required and a good mix of storytelling elements. Make sure you dispose of all those fruitcakes!

Rating: 7.5/10 Perfect for the holidays, so if you were like me and passed this one over, then mark it on your calendar for the next holidays.

The next holidays are Easter, so I'll have me some Christmas spirit in the middle of spring then!
