Is this game still in production? I didn't realize it was also subsidized by NCSoft. NCSoft can into good online games. This could be interesting. Is it still ongoing?

Well, since NCSoft "risked" Guild Wars, a game with 20 level limit and perfect weapons obtainable very easily it seems they can sometimes venture into the land of publishing MMOs that aren't asian grindfests.
If Tim Cain: The Game will be the next GW I'll be pleased. Just don't make Nightfall and Eye of the North.

Too bad Tim Cain is surrounded by developers who use facebook and think Halo is a RPG. Sure there are some people among him who actually know what they are doing but 90% of those hipster developers only know one thing and that's how to pop moles. The game's gonna suck hard, especially game journalists cocks.

Let's hope Tim is manly enough to slap them with his fist and yell "FUCK YOU, HALO AIN'T NO RPG, WHY AREN'T YOU AT BETHESDA, MORON".

Over there.
The consensus of hate for MMOs here is likely due to the fact that there isn't an MMO out there that meets the hive's collective expectations.

So I have to ask-- What would make a good MMORPG? I'm talking features, gameplay rationale, the while nuts & bolts of the game, and so on.

Good single player :yeah:

If mmorpg could be good it needs to be hard enough to scare most WOW players and still friendly enough to invite people. Well it needs more living GM.

Fuck its impossible to make more than 50% codex happy with RPG. So good dumbed down RPG which is MMORPG is even less possible.

Lot's of violence, good combat system, unrestricted PvP, permadeath, low-grind, gore, tastefully done rape.

A good MMORPG is when you don't have to LARP to roleplay something because the MMORPG is build to support roleplaying. That means there are no artificial borders to prevent it (for example forbidden PvP zones).
Do you want to create a gang full of black people? Fine you can.
Do you want to be a lonley bountyhunter? Fine you can.
Do you want to be a rapist? Fine you can.
Depending on how many question you can answer with "Fine you can" or "No you can't" it's either a good MMORPG or a shitty one.
