Am I the only one who thinks that you dont have to sarifice story to allow freedom. Besides how killing wife affects the fucking story?
No ideia. I could pretty much rape/kill the whole wasteland in Fallout, and then rape/kill The Master and finish the game.

That's because the story in fallout was almost non-existent. When I think "damn, that was a good story", Fallout isn't the first game that pops to mind.

Also, what's this shit about not thinking of accessibility. Mike Laidlaw law needs to have a sit-down with this boy.

The only thing more predictable than Todd Howard's comments are the comments here on the Codex.

If we all hate Bethsoft so much, why the fuck do we keep discussing them?

What happens in Oblivion is you start the game, play for three hours, and then think "I want to start over, I chose wrong."

Considering the game gives you an entire dungeon before asking you if you're satisfied with the character, you'd have to pretty fucking indecisive...

I read this as meaning that in Skyrim every class will be just as AWESUM as any other(read: same) from the start rather than after a few levels.

What classes? Skyrim has no classes. TES hasn't had a decent class system since Arena anyway.

Well, I'm not expecting a deep emotional story from Skyrim either...

I don't "hate" Bethesda anymore than I do Bioware. They've made some very good games in the past and have the posibility to make some very good games in the future. What I hate is the contempt of audience that money generates, and I hate how PR departments and the gaming media grapple onto that teat and suckle it desperately by telling their audiences that everything that pays the big advertising bucks is the best shit ever while more interesting titles with less financial backing are skewered as sacrificial lambs so that those "journalists" have something that they can point at when someone becomes cynical enough to call them shills.

So, when an Obsidian game ships with bugs and enough player freedom to cut off quests it's called "unplayable" but when a Bethesda game ships that way it's called "weirdness." You suck that big developer cock, Gamasutra.

It's no worse than what some of the people around here do with any "indie" developer. Pity the fool who calls one of those derivative, dated, unimaginative and crude even if that's what everyone knows they are. And lets pimp for more vaporware indie titles too! It's all good, as long as they say the right things while managing to do virtually nothing.

It's a fucked up industry with fucked up fans and that's all there is to it. Although, I for one would appreciate it if a big gaming website could see there way through to hiring interviewers who don't sound quite so much like a "C" student who is muddling through 8th grade, for the second time. Even if that is the demographic sweetspot.

i dunno man planescape torment is pretty good for an indie game

it didn't sell anywhere near like minecraft or plants vs zombies or torchlight or peggle but I think it did well even with its limited budget, small target audience and lack of marketing

They did indeed have ample marketing.

This week we got some goods news on Planescape: Torment from a marketing perspective. For May, the game moved into the top 20 list of most anticipated games due out this year. How do we know? We run our own consumer surveys each month in order to track our marketing impact. And this gets to the subject I wanted to talk about for this week's marketing update.
... blah blah blah...

you mean you can't see it without an account? here it is then

I have a da account because for a while I had a thing for collecting interesting internet arts

awJPU.jpg

yes that picture was found on da and no you don't have to search hard at all to find good stuff
the stuff I have tends to the quirky and not super realistic polished stuff though

here is an example of a good artist on DA that even a codexer might admit to liking without losing kool kredits
http://ukitakumuki.deviantart.com/

also there are naked people on da if you're not into drawings or something

While I agree with your second paragraph completely, I can't think of a single game--indie or otherwise--that hasn't been shit upon by some branch of the Codex when it was brought up. At best, you can expect to see a thread praising a game generate a competitor thread that damns the game and those who enjoy it in a vitriolic storm of hatefucking. At worst, you can expect Skyway to show up.

Of course, that doesn't really matter. The Codex is primarily a forum (and one that rarely elevates itself above the idiocy of your 4chans or your Escapist forums) where people come on their free time to partake of the aforementioned storms of hatefucking, and Gamasutra is a large gaming news outlet that hires people and pays them actual money to write poorly researched tripe that slants the way of the advertising money and call it "journalism." The distinction in quality and integrity between the two really should be far greater than it is.

Yes, its true that as the N->infinity, the chance of someone not liking any game goes to 0. Good to see you have mastered elementary math.

The guy on the cover was Guido Henkel, Planescape: Torment's senior producer on the game for the longest time. Later he was replaced by someone else.
Although only a few additional subplots and characters had to be discarded to meet the planned release date, he(Guido) accused the Interplay management of disregarding the development team regarding things like package design and marketing.
