I still haven't finished the 123 remaster. I did finish TR1, which i enjoyed very much, but TR2 was then such a sharp decline...

Is TR4 anywhere close to TR1?
It's better than 2 but not as good as 1. My personal ranking would be 1>3>4>2>5

Why is everything after 1 such inferior remasters? Do they change too much?
It's not about the remasters, it's about the original content. 2 is my least favorite as well due to the focus on action segments against human enemies. The level design is pretty good otherwise, it's just marred by the constant shootouts.

Almost finished III. RX-Tech Mines in Antarctica. Tired of riding these carts in a search for the winch starter that will lower the little submarine. Maybe I was supposed to stop one of these carts in a particular spot that I haven't explored yet. Doesn't seem like it. But I see a collectible crystal as I ride one of them. howlongtobeat says 21 hours. I don't know if most of those players used guides, but it's taking me way, way, way, way longer.

I didn't know until very recently that Core Design was allowed to make one PlayStation 2 game before they lost the IP. Tempted to skip to Angel of Darkness and go back to the previous two later, out of curiosity for what changed on the new generation.

These remasters are useless minus the ability to play the original pc versions hassle free. And even that is made annoying because you need to hex edit the exe to actually have stable fps.
The new controls suck and the new graphics are terrible because everything is too dark and ai textures are a mixed bag.

I've literally never had issues playing the originals on modern PCs. Granted, I am using the GOG versions.

Yeah, I don't understand how they managed to fuck up the graphics so badly. Nevermind the fact that the new graphics are too dark that you can't see shit, but the game does not even ship with any sort of graphical options. Can't change the resolution, can't change the aspect ratio, can't change FPS, can't change gamma, can't do anything. What the fuck were they thinking? The old graphics are stuck at 30 FPS (more like 15 if we're being honest), whereas openlara runs at 60 and comes with tons more features. This remaster is a cash grab if I ever saw one. The only good thing about it is that it comes with all three games together with their respective expansion packs in one single package. Don't care about the "modern control"; the game wasn't designed with them in mind anyway. All they added were some cosmetic features like photo mode and skin selection. Who cares.

Gonna have to agree that something ain't right about the light:

I found a lot of graphical errors on the Sacred Lake level, flickering lights, a floating wall, one haram guy climbed up to a non-existent platform, and one of the alligators flew up into the sky and disappeared.

The bottom mine cart stops automatically at the right spot. Go through a door to your right.
I passed the door down there several times since Saturday and only a few minutes ago spotted the switch pictured on her left. Pretty sure I even ran through that hallway with a flare once.

Just copied over the old executable with the one that unlocks the framerate, after reading the posts above (and playing all of Tomb Raider and most of Tomb Raider III in 20 fps). So simple and it wasn't just built in.

As for the lack of aspect ratio options, I think it's fine. Like how it automatically adjusts to whatever you stretch the window to. The cutscenes fill my screen, but it looks like they were originally in 21:9 anyway.

TR4 is my second-favorite TR. It's the first game in the series that returns to the vibe of the original. You mainly raid tombs again and there's a bigger focus on puzzles than action. Levels are pretty large, and there's now some levels that are connected through a hub, like Alexandria. While there are a few overly obtuse puzzles like in TR2 and 3, TR4 also has some of the best puzzles in the series.

The quality drops sharply when you get to Cairo though, but that's the penultimate level. Up to that point it's excellent.

Finished III this morning.

The Last Revelation (IV) remaster runs like crap for me, whereas I to III ran wonderfully. I don't get it. I vaguely remember this lame opening. Have 60 minutes logged on Steam in 2017. I don't want to know Lara Croft as a child, just as I did not want to see Indiana Jones as one. Keep them one-dimensional, she barely saying anything.

The Angel of Darkness (VI) is far worse than I expected. Dislike the looser modern movement and heavy tutorials. Tomb Raider has lost its innocence. Now it's mainstream and has to treat the player with kid gloves.

I mean, the first Tomb Raiders did have tutorials, but they were in Lara's mansion, if you chose to go there, and still did not stop your movement like in The Angel of Darkness. I always went to Lara's mansion very late, usually after the story was over, choosing to learn the mechanics along the adventure. Didn't play either of them long. Will continue, although maybe not for a while. But, yeah, already see grave missteps.

The TR4 tutorial is fine, at least it's set in a cool area. But yeah, it being unskippable was a mistake.

The rest of the game is great and feels the most like TR1 compared to all other classic TRs.

I meant the TR6 tutorial. Lara won't move at all in parts, as per the modern standard. Didn't play 4 long enough this time to get to the tutorial, because it ran so badly. Will try again next weekend, until then hoping it was something temporary with my computer.

AoD is the only one I hadn't played before. I heard that it's certainly of its time, incorporating a lot of trendy features.
There's a vertical pipe on the side of a building in the tutorial area. She can climb it like all the platform characters of the time. But instead of simply leaping at it, you have to first push an object that you can climb onto, underneath. She can't jump at pipes, apparently.

I'm gonna save it for last, partly because I had no idea what happened in the opening. The story ties to IV and V might be more significant than I thought. Though, I've already completely messed up the order anyway.
