At the very least these terrible games don't get the undeserved recognition much like Oblivion or DA2 and therefore did not influence the industry in a negative manner.

What a terrible game. At least it only takes a few hours to complete. Still, the list is pretty good as a list of well known shitty RPGs. All of those games he listed are either really shit or really disappointing in comparison to predecessors.

Alpha Protocol & Dungeon Siege 3 instead of DA2 and Oblivion?

Looks like Matt is trying to go mainstream. He should stick to reviewing old games and interviews.

I'll chime in with what has been said. There are titles on that list that truly deserve to be there, only there are no real reasons given for them being there. There are also titles on there that should not be there, like Dungeon Master 2. Ttwo simple reasons for that. First, while it had fewer puzzles than the original, it doesn't mean that they're gone. Clearly he never got inside Skullkeep, which is chock-full of them, most of them relying upon those floating drone thingies.

The second reason is the exact reason he states that DM2 should be on the list: Less puzzles, more action. I think all of us have noticed that puzzles are on the retreat in CRPGs, because they don't appeal to the lowest common denominator. Therefore, games with puzzles don't sell, so they don't put puzzles in them. Don't blame DM2 for this, blame the industry as a whole.

DS3 isn't on place 1 and POR is, so I can't take the list seriously. But apart from a lack of other deserving contenders (Dungeon Lords: I had some fun with it, but they really only made one fifth of a game if you got the CE. Less if you didn't.) and a lack of substantial criticism I see no game on the list that I know to definitely not deserve a place on it.

you know a game genre needs help when a list of the top ten games can be argued over on whether they're the best or worst

luckily the gaming community has adapted to this manner of dissonance by saying everyone enjoys fun in their own different ways

much like fetishes

I like his videos but I was expecting a bit more intellectual criticism from an English professor -- especially in the written media as opposed to YouTube.

AP should have been higher (lower).
That's still confusing

IMO it's kind of irresponsible of him not to mention that that PoR game wiped hard drives on uninstall, this kind of shit has to be mentioned, imagine if some masochist plays them all and then when he's play PoR he loses all of his porn stash on his computer, I'm not being sarcastic, it's kind of irresponsible

How do you even make and release a game that fucking erases a hard drive, anyway? I only know of this PoR and Operation Flashpoint, but even when it's so rare you barely hear of this it still sounds it's some relatively easy mistake

Being an English professor doesn't mean that you are a great game critic.

Also:
"I understand that publishers and seemingly designers are now convinced that "action" must take precedence over all else, but ^$%# that. 'nuff said."

"It seems to me that after this (Kotor) game, Bioware cut the cord and went Action, Action, ACTION. There's some of that tendency here, but compared to Dragon Age and Mass Effect, at least this still reminds me of a true CRPG."

Um, that was a rare bug. You make it sound as if the HD wipe happened to everybody. Sure, a fatal one, but a bug nonetheless. It didn't happen often, it was just really, really bad when it did. And they surely didn't put it in on purpose.
You might as well ask: "Why do devs release games with bugs?"
I'd answer: "Because they are lazy, inept, under pressure to release and no half-way complex game can ever be polished enough to be 100% bug-free."

AP had more bugs than a public lavatory, or even more bugs than CRPGs in general?

Plus it was released like yesterday. Including such games in "Best / Worst of" lists is against my policy, for a more objective review you should wait until the dust settles down and the smell of new dissipates away.
Why did he put Dungeon Siege 3 in there then? In his defense, he probably didn't play Dragon Age 2.
