Telltale's games are not adventures in the classic sense and I've never played text adventures so A

Haha, I knew that BASS would most likely rise to the top here but to see you guys turn collectively away from somethink really unknown is funny. Don't you want to see me struggle through one of those notoriously difficult and insane text games? One you most likely don't know yourself? Oh well, I am digging the idea of replaying BAS. Played it back in the day. Think I got the boxed copy at a pc fair back in the day. Loved the comic that was in it. Then quickly got to love the game. It's a classic for a reason. Anyway, hope the hinted at sequel comes through and that they'll release that expanded edition on the platform it belongs. Namely, the pc.

Have a trailer.

In the meantime, I'm going to start with Beneath a Steel Sky. Five votes is a strong signal. BASS is freeware now and you can get a good copy from the Scummvm site itself. Then grab yourself the enhanced soundtrack and you're good to go.

I tried Cypher at a time, but not for long enough to know if I would like it or not. What I can say is that I died a lot in the first room.

I too was interested in Cypher, but IIRC it was said that it has a lacking translation and a bad parser. There's a thread here in the codex somewhere.
