I think you know more. Spill the beans! The word "Diablo" has too much pure hack and slash dungeon crawling baggage. Divine Divinity clone?

It's probably gonna be RTwP.
If it turns out an outright Diablo, then again it will be the wrong genre for what they want to accomplish. A Diablo with C&C seems interesting, but hard to do, and harder to do well.
Then again PoE's concept merged awfully with a BG hack-n-slash approach. The only way they found was tuning down combat exp to a minimum, which turned the combat to a chore.

Yeah, like Dungeon Siege 3The supported platforms (whether computer or computer + console) will tell us a lot about the game's ambitions I think.
For the record, I think a diablo-style game with better C&C, quests and world-building would be interesting. My biggest problem with PoE, in retrospect, was my own expectations of an IE-like experience. If you set the bar at "diablo but better storytelling", well, that sounds good!
Never played it, but is that actually what it is? I've heard some people describe it as one of the most competent OE releases.
Note that I'm not writing in the context of RPGs here, but ARPGs.
I've noticed there is 'beast population' in the descriptions on the world map, and there is a creature that looks like a werewolf in one of the screenshots (I think it is the last one). Could it be that lycanthropy will play an important part in this game? Would be neat.
Haven't you come across PoE's lorebook?I've noticed there is 'beast population' in the descriptions on the world map, and there is a creature that looks like a werewolf in one of the screenshots (I think it is the last one). Yeah, that world map is pretty interesting. The fact that it shows population statistics in a pseudo-modern way tells you something about the game. Literacy rates?
Yea good points, that's why I'm not describing it as a clone but in the broad-vein of. Specifically the things you're mentioning, the controls, combat, and even the character development.Never played it, but is that actually what it is? DS3 not being enough like a PC-style hack n' slash like Diablo (and more like a console-style brawler) is one reason why some people hated it.
Anyway I think we need to distinguish between "Diablo clone" and an RPG with Diablo-like controls. Diablo is more than just its click-to-single-attack controls, it's a procedurally generated dungeon crawling and loot whoring game. A game can have Diablo's basic controls without those things and it wouldn't really be a "Diablo clone", but some people might still call it that.

Or might just be developers overthinking their fantasy world building.Haven't you come across PoE's lorebook?I've noticed there is 'beast population' in the descriptions on the world map, and there is a creature that looks like a werewolf in one of the screenshots (I think it is the last one). Different context - that's meant to be like a roleplaying sourcebook. And IIRC it only showed percentages of each race/ethnicity per location. This is like a full-blown census. Kyros must be a modernizer.

Interesting presage of the future. Flashy spell effects that make it hard to clearly discern combat, uninspired itemization and characters that come off as flat?

I think it's the very same context of "I was too lazy to write up actual lore for these design bullet points I had put down".Haven't you come across PoE's lorebook?I've noticed there is 'beast population' in the descriptions on the world map, and there is a creature that looks like a werewolf in one of the screenshots (I think it is the last one). Looks pre-rendered. Check the lack of aliasing compared to character models.I hate to be this guy, but I have a hard time discerning whether the games backgrounds are 2D rendered or full 3D?
