Something that is very "funny", is that some female slaves use the rebel model, so they are slaves with sword and shield in their backs!!

How are the voices by the way?

Gothic 1 and 2 had a different voice actor for nameless, but they were quite similar. Is this the case with the English version? If not, how different is it?

How about the voices for the other major characters making a return?

Sounds pretty much like the old nameless hero. Same sarcasm we all love.

Other major characters? Apart from the few lines you share with your landing party I haven't met many oldtimers apart from Thorus. Diego regrettably has a new (and a lot worse voice actor) or maybe his voice just changed when his head shrunk.

Uh, I am certain I killed Thorus in Gothic 1.....

He was the prick at the gates to the old camp castle wasn't he? with his beasthead armour (That you couldn't get in the game...)?

Edit: I am assuming that Lester, Milton, Gorn and Lee are also present? as well as that Paladin, and Vatras?

I forgot Lares....

Anyway, One final question.

I am still searching the Gothic forums as we speak, but I would like to know if the US/Aus version will have the 1.08 patch already installed.

Reason I ask this is because the patch has only been out a few days? But Gothic 3 is in Aus (Though not for sale till tommorow) now. Would you think its possible to patch something, and have it shipped to Australia in such a short time?

If anyone clues in on this one before I do, please give me a link or answer (I will edit if i find something).

I just read a thread by one of the devs, I have to admit that I haven't seen that kind of honesty before....A refreshing change even if its a bit sad.

Thorus was in Night of the Raven, and the paladin? you mean lord hagen or lord andre? i imagine they were all crucified by the orcs. Or do you mean the Templar Cor Angar?

The main character voice is noticiable different. Personally I didn´t notice the difference between 1 and 2, but here it is very different.

Whipporowill: Thats just what I do. My gaming rig is totally free of any BS programs whatsoever, and therefore also free of viruses. Hence why I want to find out this answer so much, so I can download whatever I need before the game gets here.

fizzelopeguss: There was some paladin that let you on the ship near the end of G2. I forgot Cor Angar too....Also my Dragon Hunter merc....

Elhoim: Hmm. Who is telling the truth here?

The main character voice (in English) was identical in 1 and 2, including NotR. Aspyr already revealed that these English voices are totally different (tho maybe the voicing is similar?).

I don't remember thinking about the voice for our hero being all that different apart from the first few minutes hearing it. The former wasn't a stellar voice actor and neither is this one - from what I can recall (without installing G1/G2) again - it's similar enough to not bother me and retains that cocky dry wit that I remember from the former games.

That paladin was 'hardly' a main char, and he demands to return the ship to Khorinis after the trip IIRC; so I guess the nameless just thrown he into the sea at the end of G2 (that's what I would do); and Biff the dragonhunter is a cockhead, I guess I left him collecting 'treasures' in the dragon's island...

Spoilers

I just finished the game, and well... I liked the beginning of it. I felt like a fleshed out character because I wasn't so uber powerful. As in, in my interactions with the Orcs and the Rebels I had to do them diplomatically so that I could further myself in terms of reputation and simultaneously not get killed. So that felt very realistic and immersive.

After a while the game changed into a more sandbox-ish game as became more powerful. More sandbox-ish as in that I started caring about/fearing the NPCs less and less. Which wasn't that bad at first, but I liked how there was some inherent value on NPC interaction in the beginning of the game. Still, the sandbox game was fun because of the awesome cities and scenes in Varant and how they didn't put too much content in claustrophobic dungeons/temples (personal preference). In the ruins I rather liked the hostile NPC placement, as opposed to in Nordmar where there'd be a fucking hostile animal or goblin shaman shooting homing fireballs every 15 feet. And they wouldn't be that hard to kill except that I was tired of spamming left-click repetitively so I would run away instead, except when I had to escort an NPC (who would most likely die in the process). I had to wonder why the barbarians didn't try to maintain SOME sort of safety in their routes between clans. Or did they not visit each other at all???

After a while, though, the game kind of degenerated. The sandbox game is fun in terms of exploration and doing quests, but the problem comes with the main quest. Not that the main quest in Gothic specifically has any significant problems, but the existence of the main quest itself. Whereas in a sandbox game I can run around doing things without worrying about time, when the main quest became more noticeable, I started thinking about winning/ending the game rather than exploring more. This came from the fact that while the sandbox quests weren't all that bad, they were getting repetitive and I jumped at the opportunity to get out. Secondly, since the side quests were more of the same-old same-old I thought that the main quest would have more unique content. So, instead of getting rep with the Hashishin to get into Ishtar for Zuben's staff, which would take a lot more side quests, or helping the Nomads which would be just as annoying as I expect I'd have to liberate all the damn cities, I decided to go in front of Ishtar, summon a Demon, a Time Bubble, and Hailstorm the hell out of everything.

I wonder if having a main quest is really that great of an idea in such a game. It seems to divert attention and content away from all the interesting side quests to a single main quest that furthermore ends the game. If there weren't a main quest, then the different factions' quests would probably be a lot more fleshed out, giving me more incentive to help out certain factions. But instead I felt a little too pushed toward completing the main quest and ignoring the faction system, supplemented by the repetitive side quests (which I didn't mind, in general, because while repetitive, they felt cohesive with the setting and the NPCs) and the repetitive combat that came with them. Now that I've done the main quest once, if I were to play again, I'd probably just ignore the main quest and lead one of the factions to victory. I wouldn't be doing that anytime soon, though; it'd be after almost all the annoyances in the game are patched.

Well, playing that way was your choice. :)

I don't percieve much urgency in the main quest of Gothic 3. When you already have some of the divine artifacts, nobody else can assemble all of them without your help. You can take your sweet time locating the remaining artifacts, but you just got tired of running errands, and I can understand that.

The main quest of Oblivion, on the other hand, introduces lots of urgency that tramples the free roaming spirit of the general game. A "go anywhere - do anything" game with a main quest needs that main quest to be of the "solve mystery" type, which allows for exploring and general poking around without breaking the suspension of disbelief.
