You're not missing much anyway. The scenes are 2 minutes long, heavily censored, and without voice acting. Decent VN tho, but I'd recommend waiting for summer to read it. It's more immersive that way. Read Kanon in the meantime instead. Though if I'm being honest if you've read one Maeda story you've read them all.
Eh, I already read both. Unfortunately both were the all ages versions. It's a matter of principle on my part as I heavily dislike when vn devs turn +18 novels into AA.

Muv-Luv Alternative has some neat moments in it, but they are buried underneath a very long and overly drawn out runtime. You have to slog through the first half which is boring and is largely a retread of Extra's plot, and then even after that the VN is plagued by having dialogue scenes that should be 1/3rd of their length, repetitive "I have changed!" inner monologues, etc. The VN should have been less than half the length it actually was. The writing also has an issue where it unduly frames Takeru as being a bad man compared to the girls for unjustified reasons. That being said, the soundtrack is great and there are a couple really high tension arcs. Grossly overrated but still worth checking out but just be prepared that it is a large time commitment for overall low fun per hour.

Muv-Luv Alternative is pure cringe down the vein; avoid it like the plague. I recommend to try Muv-Luv original though. It's dumb, but fun and lighthearted. Writing and characters are pretty good for a visual novel. I especially enjoyed Tama's line and feel a bit guilty about it.
