Well, demo is available now for everybody on Steam and Xbawks. PS3 users (I hate you because I bought the wrong console) get it tomorrow.

Ah, what the shit, I pre-ordered it. It better not suck or I'll pirate all future Relic games. Now I hope Relic will do a My Little Pony – Friendship is Magic RTS.

By the way, if you're in the EU like me, you might find it a bit more interesting to get the game from the UK version of GamersGate. Steam lists the game as 50 € and GG at 45 €. Not much of a difference, but if you go to GG UK, it is listed at 30 £, which converts to 34 € or 50 $. Slightly more interesting.

Just tried the demo, pretty fun. Don't think I'll buy at full price since it's probably a 5 hour campaign and the multiplayer will probably be dead in a couple weeks, but the gameplay is pretty nice and actiony.

Any word on if it's gonna have a co-op horde mode?

They're promising a free co-op mode DLC within 30 days. No specifics at all about what it will comprise, whether it's for the campaign or a horde mode. =/

Edit:

5 player co-op... Most likely not campaign then. 5 players sounds chaotic...

Hmm. Fingers crossed for a horde mode then. Might be cool if they tie it into the multiplayer leveling up and gear acquisition thing too.

Well I must say, I'm in a state of shock.

I had dismissed this game ages ago, but this is the most impressive demo I've seen in a long while. Really fun and gloriously gory. NO auto-regenerating health and NO fucking cover system!!

:incline:

Is there an actual release date apart from September?

Demo is amusing, but I wish the healing worked differently. Like, dunno, executions charging up adrenaline that you can use to heal up in combat or something because what's the fucking point of using execute to heal in mid-combat, if the kill animation takes fucklong and in the meantime, a truckload of orks bumrushes you.

The healing basically boils down to: hide behind a crate and wait for a lone straggler to come so you can eat him. How very... popamole :rpgcodex:

Oooh, found the power-axe! Kinda silly I missed it before but whatever. It's weaker than the chainsword against hordes of enemies but it cuts through Nobs (and supposedly other armoured enemies) like a hot knife through butter. I hope the other weapons will also have variations like that.

Also from early interviews, it appears that you can gain experience and unlock more moves and abilities as you progress through the campaign. That could add some depth if they kept it. At least they nailed the combat and shooting right.

Dunno for you but I find hard much more interesting than the other difficulties. Shooters become deadlier, especially in numbers, which forces you to pick your targets accordingly, and the increased damage makes it imperative to pick the right time to execute. I like.

Oh for those who, like me, don't really like the voices of the Orks, there are rumours that these are placeholders and should be changed for the retail version. We'll see.

demo is great. the HARD difficulty is really hard too. requires serious crowd controlling skills. Should definitely be played with a gamepad though.

So what's the Kodex Kritikal Konsensus? Can this game be played with KB+mouse or should I get it for my xbawkz to play with a gamepad?

I guess you don't have a wired controller to hook up to the PC?

Really you should just dload the demo and try for yourself. I think it's perfectly fine with kb+mouse (and mouse makes it a lot easier to mix in a quick but accurate ranged shot to some sniper while you're still meleeing). I think WASD + analog mouse adjustment is a fine replacement for analog joystick movement control for melee attack direction.

If you got a xbawks, just plug the controller on your pc after you installed the drivers and there you go. I only played with a pad (x360, for that matter) but heard good things from those who went with KB+M. Lots of options and all keys remappable. This I like.

The only time I played through the demo I used keyboard and mouse, and I was on the hardest difficulty. Slashing got a bit awkward as your crosshair turns faster than your character, and the character will slash in the direction he is facing--even if you are aiming directly behind him (I only noticed this a few times so I may be mistaken). It wouldn't even be worth mentioning if you weren't required to slash so quickly. Other than that it worked quite well. The large amount of time you spend shooting seems as if it will lend itself well to the mouse.

One thing I didn't like were the ranged weapons. What's this sniper and mine laying bullshit? Give me flamethrowers, plasma and melta guns, please.

There are plasma and melta guns, just not in the demo. No flamethrower though.
