Although the design works rather well for the forum, it really just doesn't match with the amount of text needed to be crammed into as little space possible.
Agreed. I get the impression of a wall of text. "tl;dr." But to be fair, I might could get used to it.

Links go on the left not the right, everyone knows that...

Apart from that (and the horrible pop up) its a fine if minimalistic design.

i think its something about the font thats wtf. maybe try a different font? something more rounded off and maybe slightly less thin/wirey? but its better than the previous design and much more cleaned up

Headlines on the left, 'Paypal donate' button at the bottom or below the sideboxes but not in my goddamn face.
And please try to lighten up the news with a picture once in a while.

Firefox + add-block + noscript = no pop-up. (But maybe that was already fixed?)

Anyway, colour usage looks nearly as bad as Tacticular Cancer's. But at least TC's symetry is better.
Headlines left, hot topics above content. And a light grey, red, black colour scheme please.
And the banner ads are gone(?). I always allowed them for the codex.

In general the Codex now looks like Bioware's version of dark and gritty.

Ok my thoughts:

Bring the old colors back. The present situation just looks wrong. It worked well for the forum, buit on the front page it offends my eyes. Why? Well, first off, the main page should stand out, i.e. be different. Else what's the point? Secondly, it has a lot of information on it so it should be as easy to read as possible. The white page, black text, and red urls did this as well as I think is possible. The present situation is pretty monotonous. So bring the old colors back, or at the very least make it something different from the forums.

Layout: Topics NEEDS to be immediately visible when you first open the page. Shouldn't this go without saying? It's the only thing that changes frequently.

So those two things, colors and topics. The rest I don't really care about.

And to the six people who have voted with me: Where the FUCK were you when this thread was first started, eh?

I'm not only wondering where the fuck everyone was when this thread was started, but where the fuck they were when the old design was first born.

Change the red color or the grey blinded background!
... and so on. I'm inclined to think the design is fine, people just like to complain and in another three years when we change it again, everyone will be complaining about that one too and asking for this one back.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY RPGCODEX??

No, seriously, this is just bad. What the hell was wrong with the old design anyway?

I quite like the new layout. New setup looks more like a front page and less like a wall of random headlines, forum topics and articles in no particular order.
Bigger fonts are a welcome addition. Putting the search box at the upper right instead of centered in an oddly oversized box is great too.
Matching styles between forums and front page I like. Dark themes tend to be easier on the eyes. Red on white/gray is a color scheme for veined eyeballs, not front pages.
New style doesn't look so "2001" or whatever.

Can't decide whether or not I like the new two or old three column design better, all I really miss is having new forum post listings near the top, but that's just me nitpicking.

It all comes down to going with the best design that someone actually provided and implemented, garnering mass approval won't happen, the RPG Codex can't even agree on RPG's.

Yes.

have some pictures there, though, it looks like a huge wall of text atm.
Given the significant portion of Torment fanatics here, that's rather fitting, don't you think? Also, graphics whore.

I came to the codex after one day of absence and I start to check If I clicked the right favorite... This morning's wtf...

Anyway, I like the colors, text is easy to read, etc. The layout is not ok, though. Some feedback:

- links should be on the left
- the forum is THE feature of this site, it should be first, then the headlines, then the content. Most people read the content through the forum or news anyway, I see no reason for this not to be the last.
- the news start too abruptly, you need something else to put on top, it feels like I'm not on the main page.

Hmm, on second thought, I think maybe you can use a slightly smaller font on the main page (just one unit lower).

Something is wrong with the color scheme + bring the latest topics back to top...other than that it's fine.

Needs more bloom.

*cough*

RHS designs never made sense, so I don't see a reason to dhta there. the popup ad now obscures the first news article, which is a pain. Maybe slightly bigger gaps between news articles to ease skimming through.

Otherwise, looks good. The original layout never made sense anyway, in that you had to scroll down to see anything useful (news).

Who is this 'everyone'? Not me. I never complained about the old style. But, this style is dreadful. That's just a simple fact.

Browsing the Codex via the main page. No General Discussion (Yay!), but also no site feedback :/
So I just looked up this thread when the atrocity hurt my eyes and sense of aesthetics.

Firefox with the Adblock Plus Extension using the EasyList subscription blocks itl, but I'd prefer a less aggravating solutions for people who don't use adblockers. This would be in my own best interest as I use Google Chrome and usually don't mind advertisment so don't want to set up an adblocking proxy just to make the RPGCodex front page usable again.

Whoever invented these animated, JavaScript-based overlays deserves to be shot and everybody who uses them as well. Srsly, this shit is only acceptable on porn sites.

That pop-up has to go. The x doesn't highlight so it feels like some virus infested shit you'd see on porn sites.
