Part 11 – Titanic
This, imo, was one of the most boring sections of the game. But, nonetheless, let’s play it and get it over with.
At the end of the previous episode, Three Dog told us that our daddy was in Rivet City.
While we’re travelling to Rivet City, we find a bunch of ruined cars:
In the city, there are a lot of ruined cars, like this one.
Back in the war 200 years ago, lots of nukes were dropped and all the cars exploded.
Explosions are cool!!
We decide to fire off a few rounds at the destroyed vehicle.
Despite the fact that this car already exploded centuries ago, it goes up in flames after just 5 rounds from our assault rifle.
How exactly does this make sense? I mean, the car already exploded 200 years ago.
Who cares? Explosions are fun!!
But, why is this thing on fire? What’s burning? Shouldn’t all the fuel have burnt out decades ago?
A few seconds later, the car’s nuclear engine (which already exploded 200 years ago) explodes again.
EXPLOSION!! :D
...
Anyway, we keep travelling and finally reach Rivet City:
This is an old beached aircraft carrier that got turned into a city.
We use this bridge to enter Rivet City.
Yay!! Another city!!
Unfortunately, there’s no side quest to kill all the folks who live in Rivet City (like there were in the previous two towns).
Here’s Rivet City’s market district. There’s a bunch of merchants here.
Meet Flak. He sells ammunition and firearms.
And this chick is a drug dealer.
Meet Angela. She owns a restaurant. Apparently, there’s also some stupid side quest involving her and some dude she has a crush on.
WTF is this? When the hell did Fallout 3 turn into a soap opera?
I agree. This shit is boring. Let’s ignore her.
Unfortunately, most of the other NPCs around here are just as dull and boring...
This is Paulie. He’s a druggie. If you give him some drugs, you’ll lose some karma.
Meet Mr. Lopez. He’s really emo and suicidal.
These people suck.
I agree. Let’s just find Dr. Li. Apparently, Daddy Neeson came to Rivet City to find her.
Dr. Li is a doctor. Therefore, we head over to the Science Lab to find her.
This is the town’s Laboratory.
In the science lab, we find another <s>moronic</s> awesome bobblehead!
:sigh:
Anyway, we find one of the scientists and ask her if she’s seen our dad.
Hey, you didn't happen to have seen any middle-aged men around here, did you?
FACT: Anna is a bitch.
Doctor Li is the head scientist around here, right? Maybe we’ll finally get to meet an intelligent person...
Everyone else we’ve met is fucking inane. I agree. Being better than all these people isn’t saying much.
So, does Dr. Li live up to her amazing reputation? Let’s find out:
You talking about daddy?
You knew mommy?
Your mother was, well she was a good woman; a very dedicated scientist. Your father loved her very much.
She died from complications at childbirth. None of us were expecting it; we weren’t as prepared as we could have been.
What the hell kind of a dialogue option is that? I mean, who the hell would actually say that in real life?
Whatever. Mommy probably would’ve been a stupid bitch anyway.
Dude, you’re fucked up. You know that?
FACT: Regardless of which dialogue option we picked above, she gives us just about the same response.
So, what were you guys working on before mommy died?
It was called Project Purity.
We stopped working on it after your mother died and your father left.
So... my birth single-handedly destroyed Project Purity and likely caused thousands of people to suffer by continuing to drink irradiated water?
So, where’s Daddy Neeson right now? Can we talk to him?
Ugh... this is gonna mean doing yet another contrived mission to find him, right?
Your father was here not long ago. He insisted that we return to work on Project Purity. I tried telling him too much time has passed; there’s no way it would work.
Why do I get the feeling that once we head over to his old lab, he probably won’t be there either?
Anyway, where’s your old lab?
Obviously, Fallout 3 doesn’t give us any option but to follow our dad’s footsteps and continue looking for him.
Whatever. Let’s just head over to their old lab. This place is boring.
This is the old Jefferson Memorial Building. It’s fairly close to Rivet City.
Inside, we find some old lab equipment. Presumably, daddy was performing some research here recently.
The place is also infested with Super Mutants.
Wasn’t Daddy Neeson here just recently? What did he do about all the super mutants? How the fuck was he able to do research with all these Super Mutants running around?
I don’t know? Maybe, they killed him?
We search the building some more, until we find:
Conveniently, Daddy Neeson left a bunch of tapes that document work he’s done since coming here.
Apparently, the Super Mutants ignored him for long enough to make these tapes...
Let’s just listen to the tapes.
The tapes are entirely audio, so I don’t have any screenshots. Here’s the general gist of the audio on the tapes:
One night, after I broke into the Overseer’s office, I hacked his console and gained access to his restricted files. There was one name that stood out, Dr. Stanislaus Braun. He was Vault-Tec’s leading scientist.
It was there that I learned of his involvement in Vault-Tec’s Societal Preservation Program and his work on something there called GECK, the Garden of Eden Creation Kit.
It was nothing short of a miracle: it was a terra-forming module, capable of creating life from complete lifelessness.
According to the files, the GECK was actually distributed to several of the vaults to be used after the war. V101 was sadly not one of these vaults.
Dr. Braun lived in Vault 112 during the war. He could have easily completed his research while he was there. I’m off to V112 to search for any of Braun’s research.
End of tapes.
Dude, this search for Daddy is getting really tedious.
I agree.
Nonetheless, we head to Vault 112 next update!!!
End of Part 11
I apologize for the lower quality of this update, but this section of the game was really boring. I’m glad it’s over.
