Baldur's Gate - A sort of "bildungsroman" or a coming of age adventure. Focus is on exploration, combat and story. Excellent video game adaptation of the 2E D&D rules.
Morrowind - Focus is on being as open ended as possible and creating your character as you see fit. A no name prisoner eventually becoming a hero of prophecy and demigod.

You control a party in BG, while in Morrowind you can only control yourself. Otherwise they're the same game, they both have elves and everything!

That's like asking what the structural difference is between your mom and my penis. They're both huge and fleshed out experiences, are mostly fun if you don't care about graphics, playing them starts out wonderfully but can get tiring near the end (depending how much side content you pursue) and most people who experienced these things (back then) tend to agree that they're quite wonderful.

So I'd say the biggest differences are that the former is best enjoyed with a lot of party members while the second is mostly a solo experience (*sobs*), although you can hire companions to service you. Another difference is that my dick is often inside ur mom, while I've never had any Morrowind in my Baldur's Gate.

Both based off of tabletop games played by Todd Howard and John Sawyer. Mechanically they are the same.

Man that's a super broad question that will probably prompt some tldr posts.

But one is a party-based, isometric crpg based on pnp rules while the other is a first-person, single character RPG made by the same studio that previously produced Hockey League Simulator, and of course, the iconic RPG, Wayne Gretzky Hockey.

Baldur's Gate adapted the rules of tabletop RPGs and called it a day.

Morrowind adapted the rules (more liberally), but also attempted to capture the open-endedness of tabletop RPGs, while also letting the player see through the eyes of their character; something that couldn't be achieved with tabletop games.

title
Morrowind founded a new subgenre of CRPGs by developing the existing Stygian Abyss subgenre beyond what had been done earlier in Arena and Daggerfall, moving away from procedural generation in order to create a vast but explorable 3D overland environment. The result is an exploration-focused CRPG with an incredible sui generis setting, beautiful aesthetics, splendid lore, a robust character creator, a sense of adventure, and a tremendous amount of content more than sufficient for three playthroughs with varied characters.

Baldur's Gate is, and has always been, decline. At best, it's an RTSRPG.

I feel people here don't get it right, I want to know what genres BG and MW are different at and how the differences in the gameplays explain the conceptual ones as well.

The main differences:

Morrowind does not use a class system, you can develop your character as you wish
In Morrowind there is no concept of turns and rounds, we can say that both NPCs and Player "acts at the same time".

Interesting thing is that BG does not use the real "round system" of AD&D 2e because in the tabletop game all players and NPCs declare their actions before the initiative is rolled, actions are then performed in order of initiative. I much prefer this approach then the "my round, your round etc"

are there similarities?

[is this a high school project or what?]
Referencing the codex on RPG's to prepare for a school project is like referencing Mein Kampf to prepare for Hannukah.

Well, this does sound as a legitimate question from someone who has totally zero interest in RPGs and somehow got assigned this research task concerning some ancient titles
