Can you fully roleplay as thief in the game for example sneak past most enemies and pickpocket town citizens ? Haven't heard much except lockpicking will be some kinda mini game.
There hasn't been good stealth games since Thief series, so just wondering how well Oblivion is going to cover stealth side of the game.

Have you played T2X: Shadows of the Metal Age. It's pretty gewd.

As far as stealth in the next elder scrolls game, thats a tough one. Since it's not modern/futuristic, you just can't just put vents everywhere.

I read they hired someone who worked on a Thief game for that.

What's the gripe with "minigames" anyway? I like sneaking and lockpicking in Gothic. I mean, is combat in Gothic a "minigame" too?

I am burned from GAT:SA DDR minigames.

Look I have no problem with optimal minigames put in just to waste time (like FF card games) but when minigames take core elements of gameplay I do, I buy a RPG to play a RPG and not to play DDR or a FPS.

And its a fad, it looks we all have to play Splinter Cell in order to pick locks in every single feaking game that have lockpicking, in RPGs the only things that sould matter on the ability to open a lock is how much points there is in that skill, any modifiers and how dificult is that lock.

No, its stupid (Gothic 1) and boring (Gothic 2).

Yeah, I've read the guys designer diary thing. He said it obviously won't be as good as thief considering how many other things are in Oblivion (as opposed to it being soley a stealth game), but it's getting some loving care this time around. They said they want to make it so that you can go through the whole game as a pure fighter, mage, or stealth character.

I seen dialogue as a minigame, go pick the latest "Larry" (if we can call it that) game and check for yourself.

woohoo

shitty thief rip-off with dumb lockpicking minigames

the lockpicking minigames in dungeon lords made it so much more fun.

Thanks, but i'll like to pick locks based on my characters skill and not skill + timed mouseclicks

All I do is compare, Gothic is winning the tide.

And i'm more of a Spiderweb hoar then I am anything else now.

Oblivion is just the same old shit, with prettier graphics and Exitium blowing them.

You're comparing two games that aren't even out, what's worse is you act like a fanboy with your "omg, betheda surx! gothic will be #1 ias always dude. OBLIBON IS SHIT, LOL. Geothic is my personal lord and savier!" bullshit.

At least wait for the games to come out before you say which one is better, or at least say it once or twice then shut the fuck up (as opposed to going into every thread saying the same exact shit). Or keep being a dumbass.

Gothic 2 also have that idiocy, still I justed looked at FAQs since the combination was always the same and opening chests was not as a key funtion of the game progression or even quests ... perhaps because I was playing a paladin and never joined the thieves there was no reason for me to look for it.

Most people would have uninstalled Gothic 2 because of the combat system before they would run into a locked chest so ...

Gothic's combat was fine (at least 2, I didn't play 1 much).

edit: I think most people who hated it/sucked at it were just horrible at coordination and adaptation.

And I don't know how it was boring when most of the enemies in the areas you traveled to could easily kill you if you aren't careful. Especially things like the castle surrounded by orcs. Which thinking about it makes me want to go play it again.

You can test Gothic 1 combat in 2, just go to preferences or whatever and check the "gothic 1 combat" box (or something like it) and you get a taste of Gothic 1 combat.

And it was boring, Gothic 1 suffered from a idiotic combat systemas Gothic 2 suffered more of way too many enemy spawn areas ... it was a pain to travel, even worst that in Morrowind.

All Oblivion is is Morrowind Remade, Morrowind was shit and the "improvements" arnt very impressive.

It's the opposite for Gothic 3.

I don't mind seeing a Gothic fanboy for a change.

Bloody Bethsuckers are all over Gothic forums. It's worse than the Elder Scrolls forums.

There's an option in the ini file that makes the game randomize all lock combinations everytime you load your savegame.

BTW, Both Gothic games had no respawning (some new monsters appeared, but only when you advanced to a next chapter) and imo were great!

Yep.
It was posted as part of a news item here, and an interview by rpgdot or similar. The interview was rather in-depth actually, and featured a lot from the guy working on the Thief stuff, Assassin guild stuff, and so on.
Hmmmm...can't find the linky right now...

Edit:
I think this might be it.
