Fallout What's the reason for the courier to care about the main story of New Vegas?

Name 1 ONE good thing about New Vegas? I double dare you.
Its nothing but trash.
Well, I guess the guns are decent but they sound like fucking garbage.
I'm not trolling.
There is absolutely NOTHING interesting in the whole godforskaen running simulator.
Its dumb, eyerolling cringe and banal shit boring. Ugly. Crippled.

People talk its CnC up but who cares if you want to ignore faction after faction, town after town. God, kill em all and sort em out yourself....

I cared about Shady Sands, the village, in F1 more than ANY fucking thing in NV.

I am fairly certain that it was Sawyer who completely KILLED any soul the writing could have had.
Its dead like a wasteland.

I'll do one thing I thought I would never do:

PILLARS OF ETERNITY 1 has better writing than NEW VEGAS
from concepts, to quests, to characters

There, I said it. Shower time.

I'll say this - Pillars of Eternity has better writing than people give it credit for. The main criticism seems to revolve around information dumps - a criticism often declared by the same people who praise Planescape: Torment, where such things were much, much more common. Just as a small sample, try and remember the Planeswalker, a single NPC - draining all the topics he has can take up around 30 minutes. Of talking to a single NPC. And only ONE SUB-TOPIC OF A DIFFERENT SUB-TOPIC is relevant to you as a character in any way, shape, or form.

Iovara ruined whatever memories I have of the story. She's written like an edgy internet atheist, except in this case we have tangible proof of the gods actually existing.
Thaos sudden personality shift along with your sudden loss of being able to roleplay your past life also contributed to this.

Characters have a right to be wrong.

Doesn't make it any less stupid. It was something so momentously stupid and at such an important point that it sticks out anytime I think about the game's story.

The main criticism is that it's fucking boring. Just like with Numenera, Obsidian's takeaway from Planescape: Torment was apparently that lots and lots of words = good. It didn't occur to them that people were happy to read hundreds of thousands of words in Torment because it was interesting.

This game is so big it gives me Agoraphobia.

And just 18 months in production, incredible.

Five hundred people were modeling just one filler museum level in The Last of Us: Part II for two years, you know?

Now and then.

100%. Vegas is total incline and how they put that much content into the game in 18 months defies comprehension.

You could play for a year in Vegas just doing little subplot quests and not even visit any of the major plot points of the game.

With millennials it takes a thousand of them to change a lightbulb. Once the soy is taken away it makes stronk. Prior generation of men were strapping swole bros.

But who does that? You overexagerate things.

Well no, it's totally comprehensible, they added so much content in 18 months by not fixing anything.

At least, the game launches whereas in New Vegas.

He should give a fuck. Maybe he had a very boring life and he wanted adventure or he has thug personality, it's possible that the courier company he worked for was part of the mafia and he did it for his reputation. Revenge is a good one, if someone with that haircut shoots at you and you survive the most logical thing to do is to get revenge.

FWIW, the planewalker was one of the few things in the game written by McComb, not MCA. The signs that he's a hack writer have been there since 1999.

I've seen this mentioned a few times, but the game doesn't end when you meet Benny and there's little reason to continue on after that from a revenge POV.

Well, it's a good thing the Courier isn't some kind of wraith reanimated for the sole purpose of seeking vengeance. Still, you can just screw around to your heart's content after whacking Benny. There is no timer. I wouldn't recommend just going full aimless murderhobo on the Mojave, but you can do it. But getting back to the Courier's motivations... I'd say most people, most players, like to see something through from start to finish. The Courier's got a job to finish, loose ends to tie up, places to go and caps to earn. You might extrapolate that the Courier has some greater purpose as an agent of change from the DLCs, but it's not like anyone's holding a gun to your head on how to play it.

He now is a killer, he changed as a person and makes more money looting and doing dangerous jobs, and he is delighted by the splendor of New Vegas with its casinos and whores.

I think the Courier has far more motivation than the the Vault Dweller did to care about the main story.

What? Why?
There's no hook for the courier to be involved with what happens to the Mojave at all.

If you don't care about fame, fortune, power, or influence then just stick to being an errand boy and quit when you've had your fill.

What's the motivation for a courier to care who owns a patch of desert and a dam?
A particularly vengeful character would want to pursue Benny, but it sort of falls apart after that.

Contrasting that to Fallout where you have a clear reason to continue on after delivering the waterchip as the mutants pose a serious risk to the safety of the vault.
