You might think it's hard to pick just one. So I'll be generous and allow a maximum of two votes. Don't care about weebshit, we are focusing on the post-mortem of Western RPGs here. Who is the biggest culprit? Is it the ones who tried to make good RPGs and failed miserably, or the ones actively pushing the frontiers of turning RPGs into dating simulators for crossdressing landwhales?

If it was to gaming as whole, then Bethesda would win by a landslide because of horsearmor and it's consequences.
But since it's only RPGs, then Bioware takes the crown of mount stupid.

The irony being that if one votes ZA/UM they inadvertently acknowledge Disco Elysium as an RPG (while Skinwalker has already done so by including it).

Also, the answer is Bioware. Closely followed by Bethesda.

Bioware. Easily.

Innovation, creativity, and simulation died once Bioware came along and turned every "RPG" into a daytime soap.

It will probably be Larian but the effects of BG3 are yet to be realized. So, Bethesda it is. That mind numbing open world shit is 100x worse than what BioWare could do.

Classic Bioware was wonderful, but the romances were a massive mistake. Remove those, and their legacy would be untainted. Larian is now making Bioware games better than them and has been doing their own romances for awhile (Dragon Commander!), but this bit of decline will always be Bioware's fault.

PS: Didn't we just do this thread a couple of weeks ago? Major deja vu.

If I'm talking about just recent developments, I'd say BioWare in my opinion has done a huge number (in a bad way) to RPG's. Vailguard is just a dating sim for "the modern audience". The older dragon age games were fine, at least 1 and 2.
I'd say larian hasn't did anything too bad, I haven't played Baldurs Gate 3 yet nor do I know too much about it. But I have heard it has a lot of romance in it, but not in the same way Dragon Age: Vailguard did it. Its, at least from what I heard, well written and not just catering to a certain demographic.

Bethesda with Starfield was a huge let-down from what I wanted, but I really don't think they have had much of an effect on the RPG gaming sperre in a bad way. (This may be some bias, I do love most* Bethesda games including Skyrim, Fallout 4, and backwards.)

Obsidian I feel hasn't released much to really have a huge effect either. Last game they released was Outer Worlds and I don't think it was really a huge deal. However, with their most recent game coming out, they're going to end up like vailguard with all the bullshit they have in the game and certain people working on it. (looking at you Matt.)

I don't believe it's just one studio causing a lot of harm, I think all of them combined is what does a great deal of damage to the genre.

Bioware easily them considering pretty much a cautionary tale of what happens when you have self hating white liberals run your company when the original team moves out.

Bioware is obvious pick, but Elder Scrolls turning to shit since PS3 era is probably THE decline for me, not to mention what they've done to Fallout.
