Why is Fallout New Vegas considered good?

Seriously I don't get it.
Graphically, it's puke-inducing.
Gameplay-wise it's worse than any FPS in the genre. It's clunky, poorly-made and extremely badly designed and a complete disgrace for an FPS.
The AI is in shambles, literally.
The Factions are all rushed and expediated, Caesar's Legion(supposedly the beast from the East is a bunch of 30 dudes in football uniforms fighting with bat in an universe with guns??????) is a joke, Boomers faction is a joke, The Khans Faction is a joke. Enclave is a joke. Omerta is a Joke. The Strip, the casino is a place with roughly 10 dudes roaming around in the void.
The DLCs are all bad except Blood Money.
I feel like people like it for what it could have been rather than what it truly is: A shitty FPS with broken dialogues, broken quests, rushed storylines&Factions, A(bsent)I, blurry puke-inducing graphics, as well as an extremely buggy software.
And don't get me started with the open-world, it's a nothingburger, it is filled with nothing, and invisible walls to spice it up.

This thing is hailed as one of the best RPGs, this is madness.
Fallout 2 is hundredfold better than this piece of shit, there is no debate.

It's rushed and unfinished, why would you even bother? The story and the factions aren't even completed.
You just get a bit of what was intended and in terms of sheer quality, it is done much better in other games like Fallout 2 for example.

It probably looks good in comparison to Fallout 3.

I've never finished New Vegas. I want to like it, but I just don't. I always lose interest in it part way through and drop it. I then try it again a year or two later with a new game only to lose interest again.

C&C and the writing obviously. It's still not that great and most people that love it do not play real RPG's.

If you want to hate new Vegas, fine, but why would you like Fallout 2 then?

Fallout 1 & 2 are both ugly, and are mechanically terrible. While the writing in Fallout New Vegas is overrated, it's still better than most games, and certainly better then Fallout 2's, where the writing is so bad (with the exception of 2 talking heads) it renders the game nearly unplayable. Just ceaseless 'lol random' (executed badly, at that) humor combined with 4th wall breaks. And when the story decides to cut the 'humor', we get full blown retardation.

The Enclave's motivations for killing everyone are so retarded it belonged in Fallout 3, not a game people say has good writing.

blah blah shit on New Vegas blah blah

You chose the wrong target to shit on, nigga.

If you ever can have some appreciation for Fallout 2, you would have some basis to like New Vegas. Fact.

If nothing else, fallout 2 require you have some imagination to look beyond the 2D 1995s visual. With just that, you can fully appreciate New Vegas.

Which means your blah blah about FNV a bad FPS is a good tell about your lying. A fallout 2 player wont judge a game by its FPS qualities. We can shit on other qualities of a game with Fallout in name, but it being a good or bad FPS doesnt even come into question.

Acknowledge your desperate pleas for attention but mang, you are shit.

There's plenty of criticisms to make of NV, but claiming that the factions are less well developed than Fallout 2 is insane. Fucking Hubologists? The Shi? Seriously? Hell, even the main antagonists, the Enclave, are completely stupid in Fallout 2, and are barely present for most of the game. Fallout 2's Brotherhood of Steel were weird as hell too.

The big criticism I'd make of New Vegas is that the dialogue is almost all so boring. Few people have any kind of interesting stylised way of speaking, or any strong personality. It's a world filled entirely with people who speak and act like they're in a dull HR conference, which is how Obsidian always seem to write their games. I suppose the mostly-bad voice acting doesn't help. Same goes for the Courier, who rarely gets the chance to assert any kind of personality. Still, you spend 90% of the game talking to people and it consistently turns out that they're boring.

The other major criticism is that the skill checks are fucking stupid, although no more so than in Fo1/2. I'm having trouble thinking of any quest that doesn't roughly follow the structure of "go to NPC -> choose [Speech] option -> get optimal outcome, win the quest". It's a problem with RPGs in general but it stands out a lot in Fallout since every quest feels the need to have some skill check solution, and the devs can never be bothered thinking of anything other than "if the player clicks [Speech], they should immediately complete the quest with the best outcome".

Don't ask me, I like Skyrim and I like New Vegas and Fallout 2. I am not from around here. But I know you upset Grampy-bone by your white man's hateful meandering. If you would but calm yourself and observe, you'd find your answer within. But wait! I can see now your soul is caught in the taint of what your culture calls: "The chase of the white rabbit.", the journey inside thus may prove too hard hard and dangerous. Hate and anger are the Red queen, they rise in power whenever you try to uncover the truth. White man, smoke some herbs and go into the trance. It will help to calm your angry spirits, and your totem animal will guide your way to unraveling the mystery.

I love New Vegas. With all DLC and JSawyer's mod, of course.

The world building is excellent. The factions are good to great, I don't know what you guys are talking about. The characters and the writing range from adequate to brilliant. Mr House is brilliant. The Burning Man is brilliant. The Survivalist is brilliant. Dead Money is brilliant, and some of my favorite Avellone's work. Old World Blues is great as well once you accept what it is going for. Vulpes Inculta is awesome.

The fighting is not that good, but sniping is not bad. You can have fun with it.

The voice acting again ranges to pretty great. Burning Man, Vulpes Inculta, Dean Domino, House are awesome.

The vaults are interesting. My favorites are Sierra Mardre and Vault 11, but others are very cool too (Vault 22 etc).

EDIT: The is some excellent quest design as well. Not all quests are created equal (it is a huge game with hundreds of quests after all), but some are great. "I put a spell on you", the Boomer questline etc.

Awesome game, tbh.

Imo NV had great C&C, factions and world compared to most so called RPGs of the time.

Yeah combat is shit and so is the game engine but nobody is playing Fallout for the combat or as an FPS.

The comparison with F2 is hilarious since that game also had puke inducing graphics, dumb AI and an open world filled with nothing (sry, you had random encounters lol).

It may have good things going for it but trying to play it directly after F1/F2 was impossible gameplay wise. Clunky gameplay killed it for me.

If FNV was made in F2 engine, it would've been a very mediocre, barely worth our time overhaul. But in F3's engine it was just such a disgusting ugly thing. All FNV fanboys should hang, for they're responsible for a big big part of the decline.

The boringness of dialogues and the ugliness of the piss yellow world cannot be overstated.

New Vegas can’t be worst than every FPS because it’s a massive improvement gameplay wise over Fallout 3. It’s not great, and Bethesda’s engine is the albatross around my neck of New Vegas, but it sure is a fucking improvement over Fallout 3.

Now I don’t quite get the degree to which it seems people around here have started sucking off New Vegas in the last few years. But the choose and consequence stuff is good (it’s not as good as the originals, or Troika’s Arcanum and Bloodlines, but it’s still good) despite some shit it brings over from Fallout 3.

The worst part of New Vegas is that it's a console game. It has a shitty console UI (giant text, quest markers, no keyboard shortcuts, etc) and it has loading screens and barren zones because it had to run on the PS3. Mods show what the game could've been, had it been PC-exclusive. I don't get the "boring dialogue" complaint. In neither Fallout 1 nor 2 was I as interested in talking to random NPCs.

Something something Obsidian's shitty development process somehow elevates this mess of a game because the evil publishers meddling are what hurt poor little New Vegas, same as KotOR2 or something. It was fashionable back in the day to theorycraft about how much better Obsidian games would be were it not for publishing constraints, essentially making them grow in the minds of this particular group of players into some nebulous shape of the ur-game on par with the greats, or something.

We're living in the post-Kickstarter world now, though, and all those ridiculous musings have been invalidated rather well.
