Yeah, FUCK having alternate ways to beat things.

That might give you, you know, actual replay value.

I want all my replay value to amount to just picking different factions and guilds which offer very similiar quests.

Not Geralt ?

I am still waiting for a game wich you can complete without virtually having to kill one single time, and even to fight one single time. For example, you can complete Arcanum without killing anything, but clearly the game is not designed to let me try.

That would be called an adventure game.

Actually, no... a game that you can ONLY complete without killing might be an adventure game. A game where, through use of violence or skills such as persuation/diplomacy/intimitade/stealth and/or wisely chosen dialogue options, you may choose/try alternate paths that fits your character the most to solve quests is called a (C)RPG.

Actually, I think a game where quests can only be sovled through violence is called an action game or a shooter. ;)

Lukas, why exactly do you call The Witcher 'RPG redefined'? Who came up with that idea?

We don't use "RPG Redifined" anymore. Some people thought it was a bit bold for being our first game and all so rather than saying it we plan to just let the game speak for itself. To tell you the truth, we invented this slogan long time ago. Many things about the "The Witcher" has changed since then. We realized that what we want to do is just great RPG that will be remembered by gamers. So, instead of "redefining" the whole genre we decided to look at its basics and get together all the most important things that good RPG should contain.

So, now we're using "The Witcher: Role Playing Game". It's very simple... but that's our goal - great RPG. What we want "The Witcher" to be is a fresh and modern take on traditional RPG genre. So, no buzzwords - just a good game :)

As for the publisher... We're still in negotiations, but I hope that I will announce the publisher to you in a few weeks :)

I hope you're joking - please be joking. :?

Our hero's name is Geralt :). Nothing has changed about it. It's just stupid mistake  Also info about possibility of playing "Witcher girl" is incorrect (it can be found on the few sites) :D .

Thanks for clearing that up, and welcome to the site. :D

See, why can't the so-called RPG developing veterens keep their philosophy that simple yet that effective? I believe the above quote has given you immediate elevated status here at the Codex.

Just don't get Bethesda to publish the game, for the love of all the is holy! I can't think of anything more tragic than a promising RPG snuffed by the Pete Hines brand of marketing.

Good luck, and don't be a stranger here!

The reason is probably very simple. In big companies the bosses are not RPG gamers :D All they think about is selling of their games (there are exceptions!). And small developers like us?... Well, we don't have nothing to loose (or at least, not that much to loose  ). We are just RPG fans and we want to do something that other fans will remember. Maybe it sounds too modest but it is true. We want our game to be a bestseller but it's not our main goal.

 Before I started my work in CD Projekt I was a writer in polish game magazines. So, I know both sides of the barricade :) I know how important is to give people "hard" info about the game instead of bullshit :D . Of course, we can't reveal every single feature of the game but I think that we do our best. On our official site one can find many materials about the game which are not "PR-hype" stuff. I'm also tired of PR and its rules. So, in my work I'm trying to talk about "The Witcher", even create a buzz but... without fooling people all the time, which is the worst PR that can be.

Good luck, and don't be a stranger here!

Thanks! Part of my job is to look at the RPG forums so... if there will be anything that should be answered, explained etc. I'm here to do it :D

Thanks Lukas, I appreciate the normal people speak instead of PR speak ;) The only question that remains for me is how well you will execute what you're going for since it is your first RPG. Otherwise, the setting, graphics and choices/consequences seem great.

That preview was nothing more than regurgitation of a press release. Lukas' perspective, otoh, is actually newsworthy.

You're a smoothtalking man. Keep it up and soon some codexer wil give you a BJ. :)

A question while you're around: Is the author Andrzej Sapkowsk involved in the development process? If so, how?

Hypothetically speaking; does it count if you just had to have some people removed in the game, and you could talk others into doing it, or find and hire the kind of people who could do it, without you phsyically attending the "removal"?

I think I had already read in some interviews that the author was writing the narrative for this game. However, with 1000 pages of dialogue, I'm pretty certain that the author didn't write all of that. But who knows? Maybe Lucas will tell me I'm wrong.

Sapkowski (the author of the books) isn't directly involved in the project, though he's had to greenlight the concept and the script.
