After having enjoyed quite a few games of the first half of the 2010's (such as Blackguards 1, Expeditions: Conquistador, Shadowrun) I lost touch with the gaming world due to the grim dragon of work. So, what is there to play from the last 5 years - it seems as if Pathfinder and Kingdom Come are pretty good. Anything else?

These are the ones I've enjoyed the most (many non-RPGs though):
  • ELEX
  • Valheim
  • Northgard
  • Escape From Tarkov
  • Pathfinder: Kingmaker
  • Remnant: From the Ashes
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance
  • Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos
  • Command & Conquer: Remastered
  • They Are Billions
  • Disco Elysium
  • Exanima

95% are utter wank

But I enjoyed the Darkside Detective for a bitsized laugh. Just playing through Bard's Tale 4, around 15 hours in, and loving every second if it.

Lots of good games already posted here, but I am a little out of touch with recent releases lately.

However, I finished Janosik yesterday, which is a short but good metroidvania. Speaking of metroidvanias, Hollow Knight is decent.

If you had included 2016, I could add Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, Stranger of Sword City, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Dungeon Rats, Superhot, XCom 2, Salt & Sanctuary, Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir, The Last Guardian, and Dark Souls III.

I will put forward Fear & Hunger, with the qualification that I myself don't know whether I love or hate it. It's a trip.

Great recs ITT, specially from Zed and Butter, so I wont repeat those games, but I really just want to emphasize Troubleshooter and Dungeon of Naheulbeuk as awesome tactical games - the best out there -, although the setting and the aesthetics are incredibly bad.

There's a lot of above-average games out there, if you can stop being a backwards prick who only plays 2 genres and considers everything else garbage.

Sadly, this is the decade of perpetual Early Access hell. I'd recommend a bunch more shit, but I'd rather wait until it's finished.

Some stuff to put on the list:
Warhammer Mechanicus - not the most challenging or complex strategy game out there, but well executed bit of underused Wh40k stuff.
Endless Space 2, be sure to read up on the DLC beforehand. Some are crap, to the point of making the game worse.
Long Dark - one of the few survival games that gripped me.
Hades - interesting little roguelite/diablo thing.
Desperados III - was going to recommend Shadow Tactics, but it's 2016.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps /Blind Forest if you haven't/
Highfleet - still not 100% sure if it's good, but definitely worth a look.
