Welp, don't know what I did wrong, but the doom clock started. Then for 20 days as it counts down, I don't get one single mission to stop/slow the clock.

WTF game?

You have to go out and find these missions on your own... if the game just gave them to you, it wouldn't be much of a doom clock would it?

What? I fly around the world with nothing to land on or scan. (besides supplies or whatever non Red Alert clearing nonsense).

One red thing popped up at T-3 days, but it was locked and I needed 90 Intel, I only had 17. Scanning then at HQ only got me 15-21 intel.

Also, sometimes shit needs "corpses" to build something...You need 3 hoo-ha corpses to build this "thing"

Great! How do I view my Inventory of corpses (besides flying to the Black Market (sell) and back)? I don't see a way.

How do I view my inventory at all without going to the Black Market?

Some of the design decisions are just retarded.

Click 2: Fly to Mission
Click 3: Click On Mission
Click 4: Launch Mission
Click 5: Begin Mission

How about instead...

Click 1: Select Mission
Click 2: Accept Mission AND land with your default squad.
Click 3: There is no CLICK 3, You just bypassed all the bullshit.

Or even 1 click

Click 1: Accept This Mission AND land with your default squad.

I'm running 2 Colonels, 2 Majors, a Captain and a Lt.

I know what gear they have and I know what gear I picked up last.

So many UI mistakes...makes my head spin.

You slow down avatar in 4 ways:
Do the Blacksite main story mission.
Find avatar facilities and blow them up (in lw2 I think you need to Liberate one area first and research leads)
Research advent officer body and build Proving Grounds so you can Skulljack another officer.
Don't let Dark Events that progress Avatar happen.

You can view your inventory through the engineering tab, it has a Inventory subtab.

I did make the mistake of going on ambush missions with rockets and flame throwers, and apparently missions where you get corpses are not common.

It is not a problem to use explosives just make sure you finish them with shooters :)

i never infiltrate under 100 and yet i need all the explosives i can bring and barely survive :V
i only lost 2 soldiers in 4-5 months but i restarted several missions (especially the first communication tower, that's been a massacre of reinforcements being slaughtered by overwatch every other turn).

i recently unlocked the doom counter but the grind has been feeling heavy for a while already. i fear i'll resort to killallais for minor missions soon.

I was too scared to do the advent HQ mission so I went straight for Blacksite mission while I waited for both lasers and Predator armor. If I cannot do that mission I might as well restart as I played very inefficiently since I had no clue what I was doing :D
Blacksite has crazy 27 days infiltration just for 100% lol. I don't know if I can keep my 1st team all with lasers and predator armor away from other missions for so long.

Did anyone do blacksite yet? Did you do 100% infi or more?

I did some more savescumming but only to find the positions where my stealth hacker can see and hack the objective from range. I got the mod installed that is supposed to show me these positions but it does not work always so savescumming is only way to do this shit. LOS problems are so irritating in this game.

For the most part I've found hack the workstation or retrieve the data cache to have few LOS issues since it's mostly intuitive - you need direct line of sight to the actual device, and step out counts. The usual strategy, for a stealth approach, is to find the magic spot where there is LOS to the device and is open to evac (not indoors or covered), then go to a blind spot out of enemy vision to throw the flare on that spot, hopefully not get found until the flare drops, and then move hack and leave same turn so whatever you activated by moving is no problem. Sometimes the blind spot is directly adjacent to the building if you're lucky, sometimes you have to use a roof, sometimes it's just not possible to do it safely.

The real LOS issues that vex me are the ones related to doors and vehicles.
Yes, that is what I do. And LOS are less if device you need to hack is inside a building.
If it is inside a train, it is almost impossible to find a spot you can hack from outside. This was a mission where the mod kept fucking me over (but also the game). My Shinobi got sight on the device where you get the audio explanation you can see it but when I moved Specialist to same exact spot he does not get the hack option...

It sems to me, the game sets you up to fail if you follow the "objectives" faithfully.

Pretty much. I dunno if that's intentional or just how imbalanced it is now.

Personally I'm not that invested in my 1.1 campaign because I know there is substantial work being done rebalancing the strategic layer. The game currently incents playing in a very counterintuitive, and kinda unfun way - 0% columns and raids. What I do enjoy right now is the moment to moment of the early game, and perfecting my small squad stealth approaches.
What? I have not seen mentioned anywhere strategic layer being reworked?!

Considering they removed critical from the same roll as attack, I am still getting way too many low percentage shots from aliens that also crit. When alien hits a 18% shot, crits should be even more rare. But from my experience, those shots are about 50% crits. It is kind of irritating when I cannot count of flashbangs, smoke or other tools to at least protect from critical even if 1/5 shots still get through.

I am about 30 restarts in (vanilla, ps4). I already had to delete 200 saves (100 save max).

I *seem* to be staying ahead of the clock this time.

I didn't follow the *recommended* objectives.

This time I built in order.

GTS
AWC
Power
Workshop
Res. Comms
Power
Proving G (on a power shield)
Shadow thing (on power sheild)
Res. Comms.
Defense Matrix.
(My base started out pretty much fucked with both power things on the bottom level)

Only time will tell if I can win or not.

So far, avatar clock is 2 ticks over half.

I may win this one, men.

You beat avatar clock by only contacting regions towards the alien facilities. Also keep the Blacksite mission for when you got no other option to stop it. And make the skulljack but also don't use it until you run out of Alien Facilities to raid (also once you do use it, Codex start appearing in most missions and they are not easy to deal with if you are not ready for them).

Another trick with Avatar clock is that when you are 1 tick away from full and game does a dark event that gives 2 ticks it still fills with just one tick, it is why I don't bother with any Avatar reducing ways until it hits 22 days countdown (but note that when you stop that countdown, next countdown starts at days you stopped last one at so go do alien facility right away when it first happens so in some future when you might not have something ready to reduce the clock you got extra days to contact a region with facility.

Oh ffs, just run into another bug. I've handed out all PCSs I've been hording so far, only to find out they all disappeared from my soldiers, every single one of them. Well fuck. Gonna pause this until they do some bug fixing.

Great, so it's never going to get fixed if it wasn't by now. I've lost so many of them I no longer remember what they were.

The bug actually benefits you in a way that would be an exploit if it weren't unavoidable. The stat bonuses from the old PCS become intrinsic to the soldiers and you can now give them new ones with a new PCS.
