Xenosaga games. Yes or no?

Is the series worth playing?

It's like with the final two episodes of Evangelion.

Fun fact, according to what I've read that is exactly what happened: The budget for the game was cut when it was half-way done and directed to the production of Final Fagtasy 8, hence why the second disk has so much cut content and badly done cutscenes (to the point there are characters that are literally forgotten by the plot). Amusingly enough, the last disc of FF8 was rushed as well, specially with that retarded "time compression" plot.

:hmmm:

Somehow 10 hours passed in this game though I actually *played* likely no more than 2 hours. At least it feels that way.

Pretty much sums up all of Xenosaga. How are you liking EP2? I absolutely hated pretty much everything about it.

Also, are you playing them on PCSX2?

PCSX2, yeh.

I don't like Shion new design, attitude and voice-over. Never liked the other characters, except for KOS-MOS who's badass incarnate. Though MOMO is actually useful now, which is good.

It seems that faggot Albedo is gone, hopefully he stays gone.

Combat and character development are streamlined compared to first game, and I don't really mind it. I think I would absolutely hate the combat though if I weren't able to speed it up using the emulator.

How do EP1&2 play on PCSX2? I remember the first one needing a ton of little fixes to get it to work right.

Shion's arrogance and hypocrisy grows over the series. It does end up being treated as a major character flaw in Episode 3, so I can forgive it.

They switch back to some of the Episode 1 voice actors in Episode 3. Shion is one of them.

Episode 2 isn't as bad as I thought. I had low low expectations going in and was surprised I was enjoying myself. The combat is a high point, since you can swap characters really easy, the battles feel a lot closer than they really are as you have access to 6 party members before it's game over. The weak point system is also ok. Funnily enough, I never finished ep. 2 so I haven't gotten to glorious ep 3 yet... maybe this thread has changed that.

And fuck Shion so hard, the worst lead character in a video game.

So I've been reading about Xenogears and wondering if it's worth playing that but from what I've read here just reading a let's play would be better. I haven't seen the Xenosaga series mentioned much though. I remember playing the first one quite a bit (though I never finished it) when I was a kid but I played a lot of crap as a kid. Also I only played the first one which I managed to reacquire some time ago. So is the series worth going through or should I just stop before I've wasted any of my time?

My brother has played the whole series and swears by it. I've almost completed the first game several times, but I lose interest around the climax.

Some people consider them prohibitively long, whether together or separately. As a single story it might be the longest in the whole JRPG genre.

YES, the games are ridiculously cut-scene heavy, but I loved the universe and overall writing. I didn't ever get a chance to play the third episode, but the first two were awesome.

So those of you that loved Xenogears, when did you play it ? I played it as an adult some years ago and found it sub-par, with childish writing trying to seem mature, endless cutscenes and repetitive, limited gameplay. I dropped it at some point halfway (?) into the game. I think it's one of those games that will probably amaze you only if you play them as a teenager.

I dropped it on second disk, but I had scratches on it, so it was unplayable. When you could survive the bad graphics, and stupid certain characters from original village, it was reasonable. I'm not into mecha however.

I don't remember that. Xenogears really drags on in the middle part of the game but the final 5 hours are pretty awesome.

ROFL, even Chu-Chu. I don't remember that part at all. Was a long time ago though, and that game is too dauntingly long for a replay.

Welcome to the club bro. Xenosaga really hit me at the right time. It began when I began high school and it ended when I ended high school. I know there are plenty of problems with the games, but I'll always remember the time I enjoyed with it.

What about idea of skipping first two and focus of Zarathustra? Missing much? I've heard that X1/X2 are pretty flawed.
