They probably still had it better than most of Dres, though.

And Dres survived too. The only House that is "gone" is Hlaalu, replaced by some Sadras guys in the Grand Council.

House Telvanni actually seems to be the second most powerful House right now. Dres are just poor farmers and Indoril is poor New Tribunal clergy, while Neloth is colonizing shit and taking new prospective members, including PC, who is to be essentially the aristocracy of Morrowind.

With *severe* losses, I bet.

They were essentially the buffer between Argonians and the rest of Morrowind and Argonians had pretty good, neighbourly reasons to decorate their pikes with every Dres they could get their hands on.

I think they are more demoted "gone", than gone "gone".

Naw, probably was kicked out because she didn't give uncle Curio a kiss.

It's amazing how Oblivion actually looks worse than Morrowind.

Opening paragraph for any student paper on design over technology.
Auto-A+.

Actually she was most likely kicked out of House Hlaalu for that.

They use dead people as bouncers for their tombs, don't think they can claim a moral high ground here.
Dunmer claim moral high ground regardless of circumstances.

Before the :decline: of the Empire, it wasn't even considered necromancy when performed on the lesser, non-mer races.

It's not necromancy when it is a religious tradition.

I loved that bit of rationalizing in the books.

"It's different from the disgusting practices of other races because we venerate our ancestors and have always done this."

Basically 'cause we said so'.

This thread has me tempted to install Morrowind again - but I know that, just like last time, I'll probably spend several days dicking around with mods and eventually get tired of the game before I actually get to playing it. :P

Fuck the sea of mods. Just get MGE to adjust resolution and draw distance, maybe one or two balancing mods and have fun.

That's a completely rational suggestion, Metro. But the mods, they call to meeee! :P
I'm actually going to try to do that one day, though - for instance, I recently managed to start a STALKER playthrough with just one mod (ZRP) and it's been great fun actually playing the game instead of trying to get 30 mod packs to work together. :)

I've come further than ever before in the main quest line...
I've fulfilled the third prophecy! Wooo. So cool to see the dwemer and shit.
In all my previous playthoughs, I stopped the main quest after a few missions and continued guild questing until I got bored.
Now it seems I have a hell of a lot of shit to do before me.

So only get MCP and a handful of mods that fix and improve stuff rather than housing mods and bottle retextures?

Yeah, I'm probably going to attempt that eventually, as I said a couple of posts ago - I have often indeed been trapped by trying to retexture everything and the result isn't always worth the effort. It's gorgeous when you manage to find the perfect combination of mods, though. :P

It's also gorgeous without any.

Morrowind has brilliant art design, pay artists some respect by playing it the way they envisioned it.

I think that Overhaul mod or whatever it's called now is a fairly simple .exe or batch file installation if you're into a heavy graphical update. There's a bit of a wow factor for the first hour but then you realize how stupid it looks to slap 2010-13 era textures, shaders, bloom, water quality, etc. on a game with 2002 models. The trees are hilariously overdone in some of these mods to the extent it looks more like the Imperial province than swampy Morrowind.

Right now I'm only playing with MGE to adjust resolution, GCD for leveling, and a few part's of BTB (one of which nerfs boots of blinding speed :(). Despite the fact that he's supposed to adjust values of things I still have around 18,000 gold and not much to spend it on.

I installed the graphics overhaul megamod thingy. I think it's great. I obviously don't turn on bloom and shit, and I chose not to install some of the textures that I thought were way off. I also don't use cheats game altering mods.

How is it on the performance side? I once tried the Overhaul; it made the game run at horrid, unplayable framerates.
